  2. Ok, Newbie here with my very first post, my wife and I are looking to buy our first 5th Wheel and will be living in it full-time. It will be mostly static for the first year located in north central Florida. We are looking used and have a target price range of 40-60k but would even like to be below that if at all possible but also willing to stretch higher for the right rig. So far I’ve been concentrating on DRVs but would like to hear your opinion on other units I should be looking at with the main points of high quality and full-time living. We are very partial to the rear living room because of the large back window; otherwise we are flexible and can take our time to find the right unit. Here’s the list of different 5vers I’m considering. Top Choices DRV Mobile or Elite Suites New Horizons (Hard to find used and probably out of our price range for now) Secondary Choices (In no particular order) Teton Newmar Mountain Aire/Kountry Aire Heartland Landmark Lifestyle (I’m a little confused by the different 5ver levels with Lifestyle) Tow Vehicle will come later Also I posted this under RV Types/Fifth-Wheel as opposed to the RVing Forums not sure if that was the correct spot so if that’s an error on my part please let me know. Thanks for any and all feedback Kevin
  3. My husband and I are becoming what Escapees calls "real Texans." The next step is to get our class A non-CDL licenses. My question has to do with the skills test. Specifically, will we be asked to parallel park our 5th wheel? Parallel parking is listed as a skill in the DMV manual. I've spoken with drivers of motor coaches who say they had to but have yet to find a 5th wheel owner licensed in Texas and would like to know what to expect. Sally

  6. Good Morning All, So my question is specifically for the Ford driver/owners out there. Where; in relation to the rear axle; did you set up the center of the fifth wheel hitch? ie Directly over the axle, 1.5", 3" ahead of the axle, etc and why. How do you think it affects the ride? I've settled on a Trailersaver TS3, with a Simpleslide for our 2007 F250; pulling a 2014 Palomino Sabre 36QS2B7; and would like to know how others have set up theirs and how it worked out. We are going with in the bed rails. Once that is set up we wil be going on a shakedown cruise and; among other things; deciding whether to install airbags or Timbrens. Thanks in advance!
  7. My wife and I are about to begin a new career as catastrophic insurance adjusters and will possibly be on the road for 6-8 mos at a time. She wants a new 44ft toy hauler and I am leaning toward a smaller used 5th wheel until we see if staying in a rv is at all what we want. I have pulled bumper trailers all my life, but know nothing about 5th wheel adventures. Any input would be appreciated. Scott
  8. We are looking at a new 5th wheel to purchase in Jan 16. The dealership with the best price, by far, has a terrible service reputation. There is only one other dealer within a 4 hour drive and I don't really want to go there. My question is: If we purchase at this dealer will we have to have any and all warranty repair done there? What are our options? I'm nervous about this because I had one bad experience with promised warranty work that never happened many years ago at another dealer . Once burnt .... Thank you for any advice you have! Beth

Doug Chaney (nine one six)-801-4777 dchaney at passportamerica.com My wife and I used the trailer for full-timing for 2 1/2 years and it was very comfortable for us. We bought the trailer new from LaMesa RV in Mesa, AZ in March of 2012, trading in a 2010 Grand Canyon. This is a Mesa floor plan. You are in the kitchen when you enter the trailer. The sink is in the slide out directly opposite the entry door and has a window behind it. There is an island that has shelves in it and has a solid uincluttered top. We did not use the oven in the Grand Canyon, so we opted to just have a cooktop and a microwave/convection oven. There is a lot of storage space in the kitchen, including a roll-out pantry shelf. The dining area includes a table and two chairs. There are two folding chairs that go with the set as well. The living room area is at the rear. There is room for a 7 foot sofa under the rear window. The 42" TV retracts into a cabinet on the off-door side near the rear. There is room opposite for a pair of recliners or theater seats, that faces the TV cabinet. It has a stereo CD/DVD player in rhe cabinet abover the TV. The bathroom is up 3 steps from the kitchen and cab be closed off with a sliding pocket door. It has a separate small room with the commode. The shower and bathroom sink are on the off-dfoor side. Opposite them and next to the commode room is a closet that is plumbed for a washer/dryer combo. The bedroom is at the front It can be separated from the bath area by a two piece sliding door. There is a king-size bed and a dresser, with a 32" TV above the dresser. There's a closet at the nose of the trailer that is about 2/3 of the width. Next to the closet is a cupboard that has shelves and a small dresser in it. The trailer has a central vacuum system. The refrigerator is a 4-door model (14.4 cubic feet, I think) and has an ice-maker.
  11. Both items are located in Williamsburg, VA TRAILER WILL BE GOING TO DEALER ON 5/15............... 2011 Big Horn 3670 RL: This floor plan is no longer made but one of the most popular floor plans. Terrific amount of storage. We are long timers and always have empty cabinets. Kitchen is phenomenal for the cook, plenty of counter space and storage. We have added a printer and computer station, Mor/Ryde IS suspension, 2 75w solar panels. The tanks are large so boondocking is easy. Sofa converts into a queen bed plus has a giant drawer for storage. 2 recliners. We regret having to sell this trailer, of 40 years of rving this has been our favorite. A solid rig, no problems what so ever. Currently located in Williamsburg, Virginia. Owned and loved by an engineer. Price: $40,000 Pictures, build sheet and additional information are at: www.flickr.com/photos/132218185@N05/sets/72157651215815030/
  12. We are going to be full timing starting May, 2016. We will be buying a 5th wheel toy hauler. We have to Harley's, 2 golden retrievers & a cat. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. -what make of toy hauler -traveling with pets -recommended truck
  13. Sold together for a discounted price or sold separately. Current location is Durango Colorado. We have settled in Durango and no longer need the 5th wheel or truck. Willing to trade for something smaller for weekend camping. This diesel truck has been an awesome work and tow truck for us. We pulled a 37' fifth wheel in the mountains with no problems. (2000 Avion Savanna 5th wheel trailer is available in separate posting, discount if purchase both together) Bed has spray coating for protection. Exterior is in good condition with typical minor paint, coating on grill puckering, and very small dents typical for a vehicle of this age. Known issues are limited to stains on fabric seats, minor worn part on driver's seat, and missing plastic on passenger exterior mirror. This vehicle has a towing package which allows you to not only pull a load more easily/safely but also allows you to control downhill speed without relying on your brakes. The side mirrors can be pulled out so that you can easily see when you are towing something. Under warranty, we had the turbo replaced at 60,000 miles and replaced EGR cooler, oil cooler, and EGR valve at 116,461 miles. In city mileage is about 15-18 mpg. This vehicle has a full back seat and seats 6 adults comfortably. The back seats fold up out of the way to provide a flat area for tools or other storage. There are fold down area for cups/storage in both the front and rear seats. Full tool chest and ladder rack are negotiable. Price is $13,750. Very comfortable Avion Savanna 5th wheel. This was a high end model (approximately $65,000 new) with lots of oak cabinets, built in convection oven/microwave, 2 desks, queen sized bed, lots of storage, and 3 slides. It has a peninsula kitchen counter with sink and two areas that pull up for additional counter space. Has a homey feel to it with the open living area and wood cabinets. We lived in this full time for 7 years. It is priced as is, needs TLC: minor fiberglass work, exterior paint (prep is almost complete), flooring. The main AC was replaced 3 years ago and hasn't been used much since then. Commode replaced 2 years ago. Price is $9,995. Work needed on the inside: 1. It is missing one sliding closet door 2. Replace the section of carpet on two slides 3. Replace parts on stove so it self-ignites (have the parts) 4. Replace some flooring in bath/bedroom (have flooring) 5. locate the switch for electric awning (upgraded from manual to electric) 6. other very minor items We have converted the single landing gear control to a dual control however one leg still needs to be installed (have the part). The unit has been sitting for some time so the batteries will likely need to be replaced. We removed an ugly couch and replaced that with a desk that spans the rear of the unit. There is a 2 drawer file cabinet between the two work stations in the desk. I spent many hours working there and looking out the windows at scenery or wildlife. There is also a built in desk that can be pulled out that has another two large drawers. We found it heavy to pull out so we did not use this feature. The bedroom has a closet space with shelving across the width of the trailer. There is an additional wardrobe (see picture) for hanging clothes. The refrigerator was repaired with a new coil system about 3 years ago. There is a power awning that was added about 3 years ago and used only once. The heater was replaced about six years ago and had about 4 years usage. When we were in RV parks we usually used electric space heaters, so the overall use on the heater is low. The water pump was replaced and the water heater was rebuilt. The unit is plumbed to add a washer/dryer. We had one for a couple of years and then chose to use the space as storage. We did replace a leaf spring and have a spare. We will continue repairs until it is sold. Book value is about $14,000, so additional work affects the price. Although Avion chose to refer to it as 35', it is actually 37 feet long. Empty weight is about 12,300 and total weight with propane, fresh and waste water, and belongings is about 12,400. Price includes hitch and cover. More pictures available upon request. Prices negotiable if you purchase both the 5th wheel and truck.
  14. Curt Q20 5th wheel hitch with slider. Used one time. Excellant condition. All reasonable offers considered.
  15. Demco Glide Ride pin box #8250008. $600. For a Lippert #1621. Bought this new in May of 2014. Love it, but traded fifth wheel and it doesn't fit new trailer's pin box. Excellent condition with only a few scratches. Free Shipping to Continental US. Discount for local pickup (Tampa, FL)
  16. SOLD- I have a slightly used B&W companion slider 5th wheel hitch for sale. Rated for 18k lbs and is removable when not in use. It has been stored in garage when not use and requires the B&W turnover ball system for use.
  17. (Images from factory website. I will get pics of my actual init posted as soon as I can) I bought this unit about 6 months ago and have used it for about 5 months on a F550. I am upgrading to a Semi (for commercial use and using a commercial size 5th wheel plate now) and no longer need it. The air ride gives a really nice ride and is much easier on both your truck and trailer making both last much longer. Also makes hitching and unhitching easier as it allows you to operate almost like you have air suspension so you do not have to do so much cranking on the landing gear. It is rated at 32k pounds so it will handle just about any trailer you care to back up to. This one has the double swivel hitch that is suitable for hauling RV's and it also has lock plates to lock out the side to side swivel so that it is then appropriate for pulling car hauler trailers. The plates were custom designed and installed by Hitch Crafter when I when up to their facility for the hitch install. You can get the parts from Hitch Crafter to convert to gooseneck and swap back and forth if you want/need to. Below is a link to the factory page that has full specification and will answer most of your questions. There are also a couple videos there about the hitch as well. This is a fairly heavy unit and will not be inexpensive to ship. I called Jason, the owner of Hitch Crafter and he said that it will be about $300 to truck ship to the lower 48 states. Local pick up would probably be best but I am willing to crate and ship if needed. I can also deliver to Florida addresses for a reasonable charge. The unit is located in Palm Coast, FL. (On I-95 between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine/Jacksonville). This unit is $2,600 new. This one is $1,800. (That is $800 off new price!) If you have any questions please email me rather than calling if you are able.
