    No Vacancy

If I missed this sorry. From some experience as a volunteer years ago at a popular state park I saw for certain weekend, holidays and a good part of the summer people would make a reservation at the start of the reservations available period just to be sure they had a spot. Then they would either cancel just in time to avoid a charge or even forefit the one night charge on an unclaimed site. I suspect this is a common practice with some and of course it creates issues for all others. Our park had popular weekends and holidays all year long so it was a constant problem. We would have campers/rv'rs lined up sometime for 1/2 mile to claim an open when the cut off time came to open unclaimed sites. (we had 355 sites on a lake near a metropolitan area)

Considerate people do what you do up to a point so I agree with you. Sometimes a site is just nicer and we all have the same desire to be in a site we like if they are not assigned.
  3. it morphed a little. It started as a question as I was having a problem contacting the mail service by phone or on line. Not a negative, just a question. I have been with the mail service since March 1997 and have had very few issues and minor ones at that.
  4. Update. The mail out sent on Jan 25jfrom mail service arrived yesterday in Atoka, Tn yesterday. My daughter is off today and will repackage and send it out today. There is still one sent out Feb. 1 that hasn't arrived yet.
  5. Did not try on line this AM but phone call went through the first time. I would say they did have some issue with the phone system for at least part of the afternoon yesterday though. I suppose they could have just been overwhelmed with call at that time. It would answer and say I was in the que sometimes at number one and never got a person. I would say about early to mid afternoon on Mountain time. Any way it worked today so all is right with that part of the world. Now if I could get the USPS right all would be good. I had a mail out forwarded to my daughter's at Atoka, TN 3 weeks ago and it still hasn't showed up. I had leave for Albq. area on Mon. Last night at about 7pm they were delivering that street. Daughter went out an met them. They handed her the mail and moved on and when she went through it and had 2 pieces of mail for other people on the street mixed in with theirs.
  6. I tried calling today to get a mail out scheduled and could not get through. When I got to my place this evening I tried to put in a mail out request online and it is saying that it is temporarliy unavailable. Does anyone know if they are having some type of issue?
  7. I hosted at a NP in Maryland S. of Baltimore and N. of Dist.of Columbia. A pretty good number of folks shipped their RV's to the port of Baltimore and spent their first time period for a day to 2 weeks there after picking up their RV at the port. We did not have any hook ups for rv's so I don't know what they did about power but I know there was something about shipping them with at least portable propane tanks. I don't know about affixed tanks. Most just bought a portable tank as quick as they reasonabley could. I know one class b type had an issue getting one a proper size for where it went on the rig. I know now that for their rig an 11 lb cylinder would work the best. Usually they stayed there for a short time to coordinate their shipping date sending them back home, Of course many were on more extensive trips and did not come badk through while I was there or may shipped out of a different port.
  8. Heck, I would be happy if I were getting my regular mail in a timely manor. It went well until just about New Years but since then it has been worrisome especially since I will need to order some meds and am about to be in a travel mode.
  9. My first thought was it could be unethical but on thinking it through I can see both sides if it is a trial. I would think in most situations it would not be good to try it this way. Once they hit the road I would guess their "home' would more of less be their address in SD or Tx or wherever. I like the idea of a trail period for sure in reasonable distance from their present location.
  10. Yes, RMD, required minimum distribution. Mail forwarding from Livingston is running slow to my current spot in TN for my statements. I like to have them in my hot little hand before doing my taxes.
  11. Does RMD create any special issues using one of these programs? Never used one before but am considering it. I have RMD from Fedearal TSP and a very small IRA. I also wait for my mailed statements. INT-1099- SSA etc.
  12. Update. I got a call from one of the ortho surgeons from Albq. He went to the trouble himself as it seems no one else could figure it out. The bad part is both VA's are not doing surgeries that are not absolutely necessary for at least the near term. He said to check back starting in a month or so but then I have to start the process again. In all of this the communication of what is happening was very poor overall. Kudos to the surgeon in particular and the Traveling vet coordinators at Memphis tried pretty hard. Someone needs to work on this program to make it work IMO.
  13. Most vets that use it VA regularly probably access with myhealthevet and have the blue button option. Sometimes there can be so much information unless you are somewhat sophisticated in searching you can't find the information you need. You can at least communicate directly with your Primary care team and other clinics that you use. It creates a trail that can be useful but what if you don't have access to the internet? Mostly I do now unless I am in an area with no signal or are not near my laptop. I used to only be able to check at the library or if I had computer access some other way. I am finding that the traveling vet program is not functioning properly for who knows why and I can't find anyway yet to get someone with authority to deal with it. I am worn out fighting it but I feel like for the sake of myself in the future and other vets that may need it I have to pursue it to make it function properly or just do away with it and use the money some other way. I may in the near future try to get a congressman or senators staff involved. My experience regarding this is limited to the Memphis VA and the Albq. VA. The Memphis VA coordinators tried pretty good to help but my roadblock seems to be at the Albq. VA. They have to do there part first. There may be a good reason but with no communication I have no way to know. I hope any others that have insight will post it to help us all understand and sort this out.
  14. I am currently "registered" at 2 VA hospital/clinics. Albq. and Memphis. You need to have one location in one VA "system" where you will have a "primary care team". It won't work to have a primary care DR at more than one. They have a program for traveling veterans with TV Coordinator. Currently the one in Abq. seems to be totally ineffective. I have had multiple surgerys at Memphis and need a new hip now. It requires an interagency consult request to Ortho in Memphis from Albq. has been nothing but a roadblock. They want me to have it there but I have a daughter trhat is a nurse and other family support in Memphis. I spoke with 2 TV coordinators at Memphis that have tried to help but they can not even get a response from the one in Albq. I have contacted a patient advocate in Albq and got a second response from him yesterday and it looks like we may have some movement to resolve my problem. I will hopefully get some good news sometime Mon. or Tue. If not I may be contacting a congressman or senator. It i was looking for care related to more basic care I understand my primary could put in a consult request. I think some places this might work but other not so much or at all. Worst case scenario just go to the VA emergency. At some they also act as part of the walk in and some hospitals have a walk in clinic. This program is a great idea but at present there seems to be a problem and someone needs to resolve it. I have found that the different VA systems do not play well together. There have always been problems in the VA healthcare sytem and some are just outright stupid. I have had good care at the VA but at times they can be a test for you mental health. I really hope you can make this work for you but be prepared.
  15. I have been with skp mail svc since March of 1997 and I have received someone else magazines about 3-4 times in all that time. I think I may have received some other persons mail maybe 2 or 3 times. At least 2 of those was someone with the same first and last name as mine and the sender did not use my PMB or the #0000 so the mail service looked it up by name and happened to pick the wrong James H. Can't really hold that against them. I have had a few other incidents where I was concerned about the mail being lost and did call the office. At some point it just makes you skeptical if they are telling you correct or are really interested just because you don't know who to hold responsible. I used to work for the USPS for several years a long time ago so I understand that side and the issues. I am leaning toward most problems are ultimately with the USPS. IE: before New years I got mail once a week from Livingsto to just N. of Memphis, Tn. Then it slowed to almost 2 full week. The last one went back to 6 days. One concern I always have is will the person that received my mail in will be contientious about returning it to escapees or the Post Office. Of course in most cases you will never know. I have been mostly problem free with the USPS during my lifetime but not completely. When I worked for them I did learn that most of the problems were actually caused by the sender by not packaging or addressing properly. One of my rememberances was a large package of frozen shrimp that was mailed and went through the parcel post annex in Dallas.
  16. That is the easiest but to my knowledge you can still do by mail with a written declaration that you are out of state traveling and when you get back home you have 3 days to get the safety and maybe smog inspection depending on your address for the vehicle. I think I did this last about 3-4 years ago. I use the mail forwarding at SKP's as my domicile. Polk County is very easy to work with in this regard. I think last time I had to send a photo copy of my insurance card and drivers license for the check I wrote. I called the tax office in advance to verify the correct amount for the check. A few years ago I registered and title a vehicle there by mail that I bought out of state and somehow wrote the check slightly wrong by a dollar or some small amount. That slowed everything up an necessitated a second call to Polk Cty. tax office but they just waited for me to send a second check to cover the amount I was short. In most of my TX life I used other Texas counties and they were not near as easy to deal with.
  17. Am currently near Memphis, TN since mid-Dec. and have seen the price drop some then bounce back and drop again. Saw the same in Albq. area before i left there. Most of the rises had explainable reasons like spike in holiday driving. Even the weather has played a part. I would like it to be cheaper but I don't find it outrageous most places.
  18. Every vehicle I have bought since about 1990 was bought at auction or rarely from an individual as I just cannot stand the crap games with car sales people or rv sales. This includes the dealers. I would not have had your patience George. If I am correct you had to haul it from Elephant Butte Lake to either Las Cruces, El Paso, or Albq. to see them try to jack you around. Big congratulations of beating them.
  19. It has been a long time since I was there but the park at Deming had a table you could put excess stuff on and then others could pay what they would for it. I believe the money went into some type of kitty to benefit the members. (may like the meal get togethers) I also remember posting something for sale on a bulletin board for about 2 or so weeks I was there.
  20. $3.00.9 at Sam's club east side of Albuquerque about 2 hours ago. (4:40pm MST now)
  21. I was mainly thinking of interest earned to help offset inflation somewhat if you are not an investor. You wouldn't be keeping up but at least the hole would not get bigger as fast. And is a good thing if you are one wanting to finance but that means the low rates are subsidizing just about everyone. Doesn't seem fair but whoever said life was fair. Maybe someone will thank us peons instead of just blaming everything on the current president who ever it is at the time. Even the ones I didn't like don't have the control many people seem to think they do. I do consider what rickieio said about his wife's brother in law said about financing.
  22. No one has mentioned this if I remember but can it be much of an issue if your spot gets some significant high winds on occaision. Also does it make it attractive to critters wanting to stay out of the elements?
  23. Really sad about your daughter and son in law but happy you are still around to help the kids and others to deal with it. Life sure can change quickly and sometimes radically and tragically. I just can not truly convey how sympathetic I feel. As far as investing some very smart people with lots of money have been caught and hammered in some investing. IE bernie Maddof and if I remember Enron hit a lot of people. I also feel that we have been forced to prop up the economy with the ultra=low and 0 interest rates for people less able to take risk. What is that,? some could call it a type of welfare.
