  1. I am a little jealous that you were able to have all the information about your dad and step-dad. You were also smart enough to ask questions and listen to get the information. While I am satisfied with my family we were so disjointed for multiple reasons that a lot of information was missed or lost. . Worst of all when my step mom passed my step sis had a lot of pictures and records that only related to my side of the family before she became part of the family hauled to the dump.   I know I have not shared much of my service time with my kids.

At any rate I hope everyone had a good veterans day.

I thought that you were a USAF medical equipment tech?

I know he'll com back but if my memory serves he did both at different times and I don't remember the reason for the transition at the moment but I'm proud to have remembered anything.😃

Did this post earlier and just re read your post Kirk, now it is hours later.  I don't believe I remember it being medical equip. tech. More like lab tech but more. Been a little under the weather lately so my recall is worse than usual. It is bad enough when usual.

  3. I can tell you that the Albq. VA and Memphis VA are much the same. They recently fiinished a parrking garage at Memphis.   Dallas has been like that as long as I can remember.  I try for the first appt. of the day. It helps avoid some traffic going in  and I normally get there early enough to grab a spot then a cup of coffee.  I  have noticed also towards the end of the appointments a lot of people have had there appointment and left and spots are more readily available. I can't imagine Dallas now. It has been over 20 plus years since I was there.

  4. I think one thing to consider is not to let holding tanks get more than maybe 2/3 to 3/4 full. That would allow  for some expansion if they started freezing up. Not sure about supply line.  I knew of one that sat out with the fresh tank about 2/3 full for a bunch of years in some harsh cold and it never leaked. I don't know what was in the black and grey tank but as far as I could tell they never busted,  pretty sure  the supply lines were Pex. The ideal still makes me nervous though.

From personal experience I warn everyone about the big road aligators.😄

  5. Kirk and RV stated the case and facts much better than me and while I would still consider what I said but follow what they said more.  I sure I am biased at the moment as I am angry, and disappointed to say the least.  My situation may be getting more interesting pretty quick as I spoke to the office person that deals with the VA for a local congress person.  He said that they have had similar complaints lately and they have spoken to the 2 senators' representatives and they relate to getting some of the same complaints. I believe they may all be contacting the VA.

I think that I'll just keep my private insurance

I think in most cases that is wise, especially if you are not a provable  service disabled vet.

That is based on the information at hand and of course everything can change at anytime, even as soon as we all click off the forum.🙂

share my records back and forth or I set up one or the other for making mistakes.

How are you doing that. I may need to do that soon I hope.

I called a particular va office in Albq. last Mon. Got a recording saying they had 72 hours to respond. I gave them a whole week in case they are short staffed or something. Never heard from them. Called again today and got the recording and left another msg and also said the time and date I had first called. I am giving them until 11:30 tomorrow then I hope I don't get arrested when I go in. I have a number of years ago got some results using  a patient advocate but it has not worked this time.  There is something wrong here and not just for me. Anyone have any insight on who  else I could talk to in the system that might do something and tell me the truth?

For reference I am a 2 service active member and VN vet in the Marine Corps. Disablities but not service connected. On the Agent Orange list and the Camp Lajuene list. I have co-insurance that is billed and pays a small portion of my copay.  I am not even bitching about my copays.  I have had good care here in the past.

Btw. There is a law that even the VA is stuck with that requires them to bill to try and recover funds owed to the government. That is part of the reason I got stuck with a 1 cent overdue with a $15. surcharge and would have gone to collections next. The insurance had paid all but the 1 cent and for some reason I did not get the bill in time to know.  My next lowest bill was for 4 cents. I offered to put up a $25. amount each year to keep this from happening but that was a no go.  I have gotten a bill and paid it to be safe then a couple of weeks later received a refund as the insurance cover part.  This all goes back to some Congressman trying to show how tough he is in recovering funds owed the  government. A good idea in theory of course but they did a poor job of setting the system up.   Surprise surprise

  8. You can but it can be complicated.  Have been seeing the VA for a long time but I am currently pretty pissed, disgusted, and disappointed in the one in Albq. and the one in Memphis. Especially the one in Albq. There is some big problem in the VA system currently I believe and I don't know what can be done about it. After the election I may try to get a congressman or senator involved but I don't expect much from my senators or congressman currently. Especially one senator.

  9. Good to know.  I never knew of anyone  that had to vacate at least for a while but Florida and Summerdale looked a little close to it a a couple of times.  Now that I think about it I believe you had an option to move into the boondocks for a little bit until another spot opened then your time started over.  I know every one of the rainbow parks I stayed at would go out of their way to accomodate to the best of their ability.🙂

  10. I would be tempted to avoid all the metro-plex (DFW) Even though  a lot of it is two lane HWy 82 North of that area and picked up just a little southeast of Wichita Falls.works good and maybe cut south on 259 or somewhere east of Sherman.  Or I40 to OKC or some where in OK and cut south. I know my way around the  metro-plex fairly well and that helps but I would still rather avoid it.

  11. I am having a senior moment but the other well known entity that does that was bought out by someone or corporation or automotive group. I believe I remember that happening some  time ago. I did not recall the NADA change but I do remember it happening.  Kelly Blue book I think it is. (The one I couldn't think of) I thought that they slanted more towards the sellers than the buyers and although I have used them both I did not trust them nearly as much.  I hope I am not just spreading manure but I think I am correct.

One thing I DO know, you'll have to get your vehicle inspected in Texas.  We bought a truck and fifth wheel from California, and before I could get registered, I had to show proof of a Texas inspection.

I don't know why that was so in your case and I am sure there is a reason but I have done around 5 or so that I bought out of state and did not have to get them inspected until I got back to TX.  I don't know  if it made a difference but none had a lien. The one I am driving now I bought 3 years ago in NM and have yet to have it inspected as I have been out of state volunteering or traveling. I have passed through TX several times but never took longer than 2-3 days.

  13. I was there at Montfort Point for approximately 6 week starting about Jan 2 of 1969 but I do not believe I have shown any ill effects that I can state.  I am on  a list to be possibly monitered at the VA as I am for agent orange. I have not looked into this but as I understand I must have had issues specific to the contamination to apply. Same for agent orange. For instance there is a particular heart issue, ischemic heart disease I think, for agent orange.  I have more than one heart issue but the first one was diagnosed as chronic ideopathic cardio myopathy. I am told ideopathic means that it is not known what causes it. I have not been obsessed with it all but if they don't know what causes it then how do they decide it isn't service related?   HMMMMMM?  Oh well I had a life to live so I have just gotten on with it.

I also meant to say no one has contacted me about the Camp Lejuene issue.  Buuuttt if I never get another call about the fake medicare insurance I would be really happy.

  14. I know some agencys have reciprocal agreements with other law enforcement entities. It can be a problem sometimes as they are not familiar with the laws for the area they are reciprocating in so to speak. A good friend of mine who is an FS employee had a wood permit legally and was gathering 100% legally off duty and a county cop answered  a call about someone stealing wood. He nearly went to jail as the cop would not listen or look at the properly display permit. My friend was allowed to leave at least. I guess the cop believed the 911 from the dispatcher and was not interested in any proper investigation of facts. Sad. Happens sometimes but the by and large most cops do what is right.

What do you suggest as an alternative term?

I know I am being nit picky.  I usually ignore it and move on.  TT's of any size and weight are of course towed utilizing a receiver hitch and a weight distributing hitch.  I don't like to see new people that don't know anything yet thinking they can just hitch up to their bumper.  Just me being an old grouch.

  16. I was surprised to find out the actual LEO's can ticket traffic offense even outside the parks or forests on public roads at least in TX and NM it seems. I was doing a ride along at least 3 times with a Forest Service LEO and people were ticketed and in 2 cases they ended up going to jail as they had warrants for "failure to appear" on previous tickets.  The judge don't like it if you ignore at least contacting the court. One guy went to jail for failure to appear on a seat belt ticket.  In Texas the park did not fixate on the busy road outside the park but sometimes they did cite people depending on circumstances. Usually it was related to trying to access the turn onto the park road leading into the park. In  a lot of cases help or warnings were the norm unless they were really stupid and thick headed.

  17. Not picking on anyone but I despise the term bumper pull for a travel trailer much larger than a Casita or the like. I know it is common but it is just so wrong for anything of any size or weight at all.

Especially considering the flimsiness of new vehicles bumpers.

  18. Ironically as cheap as I am known to be  I definitly prefer over engineering in so  many applications including electrical applications, big brakes on vehicles, bridges I have to drive over like the "new" bridge over the Mississippi at Memphis and so much more. I am not as smart as a lot but I try to make up for it with a little common sense and care. Heck I even feel some of the cords on items I have plugged in to see if they are getting too warm to suit me.  Some of my hero's are over engineers. 😃

  19. Thanks for the help jogging my minimal memory.  I had been thinking of volts, amps and resistance and just was not clicking over to watts and power factor. I got  curious  looking at the mess on the desk at the place I volunteer for the Forest service and I am always concerned with overloaded circuits or extension cords.  I may know more than anyone here and I want to give them good information. This place desperately needs some new circuits and may a couple of dedicated ones. Not going to hold my breath.  I have often groused about stating power in watts instead of amps for my purposes.

  20. I know some stuff but my brain is really fuzzy the last couple of days so you guys are my short cut.  If something is marked 750 VA I assume that is the limit of the capacity or the amount of power that could zap you. Is that 750 volts?  I think this thing is a battery back up dealy for computers.  It is pluged in to a land line outlet under a desk with at least 3-4 computers. Looks like 2 desk tops and 2 laptops. The item has a total of eight outlets on it.

2nd part of this is not really knowing how much power computers draw in general  I wonder about the likelyhood of overloading a standard modern day circuit guessing 25 amp outlet with computers. Most of these are only full on one at a time but all are on "stand by?".

The brain issue is meds working too good or not good enough today. Thats my story and I am sticking to it.🙃

    I don't do well without a woman's supervision,

I missed where Derek said that so I am glad Kirk brought it up. I find it ironically funny in a personal way. I have been single since 1980 and mostly happily so for personal reasons BUT I still sometimes say to myself sometimes, " I wish I had a wife to tell me what I want."  I usually just think it but once in line waiting to order food I said it out loud to myself and the lady behind me with her husband heard it and got really offended.  Oh well.  That just goes to show I recognize the value of a good team even after all these years and I certainly do not mean it in any negative way.
