  1. If anyone knows is the Miller Ins Agency that everyone refers to the same one that is the commercial member listed through Escapees. I looked them up on the commercial directory and the address given is in Oswego, Or. and I want to make sure which is which. If they are the right one I assume they are able to write insurance for Texas. In my case for a pick up and travel trailer.

  2. I agree there seems to be a lot less activity on the forum.  I have been an skp since 1997 but did not participate in the forum at all until about 2002 or so.  I have no way of knowing but I have felt like we may have less veterans than we did in the earlier days.  I am a vet and still a member but travel much less and at the moment not at all. I mostly work camped and I can only vaguely remember staying at one famcamp. Some of the places I might have wanted to they were mostly on base and that made it a bit of a hassle getting on and off base as I preferred.  Especially after 9/11. I did work camp on a bombing range in Florida the winter of 99-2000 and that was great.

An amusing aspect is that the majority political affiliation of RVers using domicile addresses is very likely the same as the political party trying to disenfranchise them.

From one JBH to another I tend to agree though I certainly cannot state it as fact. Nor can I really pick any percentages of who is who even close to reliably.   Late news yesterday and early today makes me feel that my chosen state is getting closer to a dictatorship which is the opposite of what is claimed.

If the new law effectively disenfranchises us from State and local issues, then maybe we ought to look at another State to call home.

At the the risk of getting in trouble, I will ask where? They appear to be coming after voters rights everywhere but especially in certain states including Texas. It seems most of the states I have ties to one way or another are that way.  I will let each person that reads this figure out who "they" are. If I was still young enough to serve I bet they would let me but all the while telling me how disloyal I am if I don't believe everything the same way.

I apologize for losing my cool but I just have to vent every once in a while.

I just skimmed this topic and this reminded me that anyone that is a veteran can get a lifetime America the Beautiful veterans card that works the same as the senior card. Still might be usefull to have the senior pass for a non vet  spouse but I would look into that aspect further. Active duty has to get a free renewable pass each year. The vet card is free whereas the senior pass is currently $80. for life unless you lose it. If I did not already have a senior pass I bought when they were $10. I would get the veterans pass for sure.  Ironically I usually get a free one year pass every year based on my volunteer hours. I have never had claim it but was tempted to get it and let my kids use it but that would not be ethical so I have not.

I forgot to say you do not have to be a military retiree to qualify for the veterans card.

I don't think it should.  You're the one who said, "They get my tax money, they get my vote."

True and some got more and some got a lot less.😄 Now it is evident why you have not seen me on the comedy tour.

A side note on voting I have considered. A friend lived in Mesquite, Tx but operated a garage in Dallas.  Plenty of things that affected his business were voted and passed by Dallas. Some good, some bad but he had no vote on the matter at all.  I sort of see that as somewhat unfair but thats just the way it is. I can't think of a better solution.  Of course we could live in Washington DC where we could be disenfranchised federally which don't seem right. Maybe they should throw a tea party to call attention to the situation.  NIMBY or rights for me but not for thee.😉

  7. I don't want this to be a major conflict but that logic doesn't seem logical to me.  Just off the top of my head I have been a resident of Dallas cty, Kaufman cty, Angelina cty, Bowie cty. and Polk cty. Some I paid a lot of taxes in some less. How does the amount of taxes I paid determine whether I should vote in the county or not.  That would set a standard that could exclude almost everyone if the threshhold was set high enough.  I get what you are trying to say and respect you for stating your case but wonder if you have considered it completely. When I was a pvt in the Corps I paid very little tax as I was paid so poorly.

And the New York Post says one of the group was going for a "tummy tuck", so why were they there? The suspicious part of me is wondering if they weren't there for some other less savory reason.

Until I hear more credible evidence I will believe they crossed for legitimate reasons. I know people that cross for medicines or medical procedures even now. I used to cross regularly for dental work. Maybe they did not know the the risks or maybe they did not take them serious. Horrible situation whatever the reason.

  9. I am required to have a domicle.  I have a duty to vote and to do my best to study the canditates and issues and make my best judgement. Therefore I normally vote almost all the ticket in Polk county if I am able to be informed in my choice. I make no apologies for doing so. I have been a Texas resident most of my life and domiciled in a number of Texas counties over the years. They get my tax money, they get my vote. Who knows I may even vote along popular local views for all they know.  I will vote against anyone or party that tries to subvert peoples right to vote.

  10. Kirk he said 1990. I would have guessed metal for that year that maybe has a sealant put on by a previous owner. Maybe like Cool Seal that they used on mobile homes with a metal roofl The fact they say you can not walk on it at all is sure concerning to me.  My first trailer was a 1988 Holiday Rambblete with a metal roof. I had some issues but could walk on it carefully.  My current one is a 1997 Sunnybrook with EPDM and even with a couple of small leaks in recent years that I caught pretty quick I could still walk on it if I were not having medical issues.

  11. A flash reply to Vlad. I have been hospitalized twice lately so I have not kept up with this but I was discharged yesterday and as I got a notice on my phone about my TSP RMD distribution I went to TSP and it shows  they are mailing mine to my home. I supposedly had it set for auto deposit to NavyFCU. This is the second year in a row they did that and I cannot seem to talk or communicate with anyone that can help. I tried their (ava ?) chat option and found it useless.  I am not happy with the new  TSP at this point.

  12. Do like I did Kirk.  Remember that 1.6 billion lottery some years back. A couple from Munford, Tn  won 1/3 of it.  I bought 5 tries at the same store they did. Guess what I won.  As a booby prize one of my daughters bought me a Christmas present from that same store.

His profile says that he joined July 6, 2007

I jumped to that conclusion based on it showing as his first post. I did not follow threw and check his profile.  But under any circumstance I take his concern seriously even if he is experienced.

I would agree with Kirks assumptions about his inquiry and hope he returns.

True enough Nick was not boondocking or dry camping but I see the principle as the same. I have a somewhat crummy memory but I have heard and known of other incidents during my time. You may remember a couple that were kidnapped and later killed that were overnighting at the NM tourist  stop just coming out of TX heading west. I have overnighted there several times and a few places even sketchier. I wonder if their life eperience was the same as mine would it have happened.  I am a volunteer and I litteraly got a call on Christmas Day last year from a person that lived at the forest boundry about an incident on the forest nearby. I was in TN at my daughters house. I called a FS  LEO and the county sheriff and had the resident call also. The guy even had a warrant out for shooting at  police. Not preaching but we have to be aware as we can for sure.

  14. this is a new member and maybe new to rv'ing so I take their concern to heart.  Remember what happened to Nick when he was at business to get some repairs. I don't remember Nicks last name but I am sure some will know who I am talking about.  Things may not happen often but when they do it could be a matter of seconds so I think they are smart to think ahead and ask for guidance based on others with more experience.

  15. Besides being in 2 branches plus national guard and reserve units , I was civilian employee of Ft Hood for 16 years mostly working with reserve units in NE Tx. I observed that if the old timers had  any funny stories about true incidents they would share those fairly readily. Obviously not a sientific study but it seemed to be true. Even a few of those had a grewsome side but still sort of weirdly funny. They were selective who they share those with.  One of the few things my brother eves shared with me still haunts me somewhat and even though I am glad I listened to let him get it off his chest I wish I had never heard it.  He was a point man on LRRPs' team in RVN I think about late 69-70 or there about. Funny thing is I had just got in country at Da Nang and they had me report to the XO where they asked questions about my younger brother. They were about to send me to one of the big brigs or stockades to see if I could identify a Marine there that fit my brothers description almost to a T and had my brothers drivers license. No picture D.L. then. just before I was about to leave they id'd the guy. But not before the FBI called my Dads and talking to my step mom and her thinking it must be me as my brother was still a senior in H.S. in Dallas. It turned out to be a guy we knew from school who had stolen my brothers ID.

  16. I don't know if it only applies to the 2 VA facilities I use or not but I have been told more than once there is no way to change it on line or via myhealthevet. I have to do it through the benefits and eligibility office at each location although I only have to make the change at one or the other of the offices. I have been able to do it by telephone or in person. I have been able to do a temporary change by putting in a start/ stop date.
