  1. Just east of OKC, right on I-40, is Grand Casino Shawnee with free RV parking with electric. Sites 1-10, if I remember correctly but there's also a site 0 and a 00. It's on pavement but backs up to a creek. Don't use their dump unless you have a macerator; it's uphill. Instead, continue east the to first rest area which has a decent dump. This may be outdated info as the name of the casino has changed since we were there. Linda
  2. I went to the GD web page because I like seeing what people are considering buying. I was surprised that they listed a bunch of recalls. I'd like to know if any of those applied to one I was buying. But GD has a good reputation and I like the one you are looking at. Does your one ton P/U have enough power to pull something that big? And, more important, to stop it? Linda Sand
  3. It seems to me that taking reservations results in no shows leaving sites unclaimed. I remember trying to get into a park with many empty sites but they were all reserved so they wouldn't let us have one in case that one was a late arrival. It used to be that you had to come or call by 6 pm or you'd lose your site. We've waited until 6 pm to arrive in hopes of getting into a "full" park and succeeding more than once. Is using first come more likely to fill them? I don't know but I'd like to see them go back to the come or call by 6 pm.
  4. Yes! We actually took shelter a couple of times and ran from a hurricane once. It helped to have a weather alert radio. But, it was all worth it. Linda
  5. Neighbors with contractor generators. I am more sensitive to noise than most people. My engine needing DEF. Getting it refilled was a huge challenge for me. A dealer once charged me $245 to top off the tank in my van because that was their minimum labor charge. Another dealer was willing to fill it but he poked a hole in the carton thinking it needed an air inlet but he poked the hole below the spout so it dribbled all over everything. Some people treating me as less than because my rig was only a van while others treated me as too big for my britches because it was a luxury van. I was always just me. Linda
  6. I know many smart people. Some are members of Mensa indicating they are truly intelligent. Yet, one of them is disliked among our community. He has NO common sense so does some really stupid things. He has no clue as to why he is no longer invited to events. Linda
  7. Sounds like a great start! Thanksgiving dinner at Rainbow's End is worth doing. Linda Sand
  8. Um. You only take a test if you think you are positive or you need for to prepare for an event--like surgery--so why wouldn't most of them be positive?
  9. I tend to think of the topic areas as single point sources. I only read the topics that interest me. No one says you have to read all of them. I do, however, check the latest post area to see if anything there from other topics catches my eye. Those that do tend to be from the HDT area which I don't normally read but they post some fun stuff. Linda
  10. The HDT area is part of this forum. I've taken to reading parts of it just to see what little is happening. I've been learning about 5th wheel hitch plates. Linda
  11. I don't know how you'd find cabins near Planet Fitness but if you buy a van type RV (called a class B.) you don't have to tow anything and you can park it daytimes at Planet Fitness. And make a smoothie or take a nap right there after your workout. Linda Sand
  12. I think all RV manufacturer's put the fire extinguishers by the door. My guess is they want the buyer to see it every time they come inside so they'll remember where to find it if needed. But if the idea is to suppress the fire just enough to have time to escape then you're right, that's a useless location since you'd just head on out the door. Unless there was someone else further back in the RV that needed that extra time to escape so you'd grab and use it instead of heading out. Then it would be good to remember where it is. Linda
  13. Amusing/frustrating: watching a kid try to make change when their electronic register has no power. Linda
  14. When the old tank is filled, do check that it is not leaking anywhere. A leak is not a good thing no matter how clean the tank is. Linda
  15. Always aim at the base of the fire; not the flames. That's my primary take away. And only use the right type of suppressor. The ones that come with RVs make a mess you probably don't want to deal with. Linda

    Texas

That sounds to me like a potential source of a wildfire.
  17. Mac was a good guy who cared about our safety. He will be missed. Linda Sand
  18. I just wondered about this. Our country has a trash/recycling center. Your vehicle is weighed as you arrive and then again as you leave to determine your charge. I wonder if they would weigh if you weren't dropping off a load? Of course, if you are in the process of cleaning out your house preparing to go full time, you may well have a load. Linda
  19. We once weighed at a place that sells gravel and concrete blocks. They did charge but not a lot. Linda
  20. My parents and grandparent were landlords for years but I never asked them how they made that work. My grandparents converted their house into a duplex and rented the upstairs to groups of young, working women. The also converted their huge garage into a two-bedroom house and rented that. So they always lived on the premises where their rental units were. My Dad simply kept the first house he bought when we moved to a larger house but I didn't know that as a child so I don't know how he managed it. But, I never got the impression either of them had any problems. But, we all know life was different back in the 1950s. Linda
  21. Uffda! I never wanted to be a landlord and this is another reason why. Linda
  22. Always keep your phone charged and your GPS up to date.
