I expected to be writing about how great Starlink is by now but, thanks to FedEx, delivery has been delayed until Monday. Stay tuned! Lenp

Received my invitation February 9th and signed up immediately. Received notification today that is was shipped and will arrive Thursday (25th). Invitation said 2-4 weeks for delivery so 3 1/2 not bad. I have a 360 clear view of the sky here in sunny Central Oregon so, hopefully, it will work out well for me. Currently using wireless ISP and getting good service but speeds limited to 10-20Mbps which is OK but current $50/month plan allows only 100Gb before charging additional $1.85/Gb overage. Happy with what I have but just had to have Starlink! After years with HughesNet I had just about given up on satellite. This should be much better. Will share my results when I get it set up. Lenp

The ins and outs of Starlink: Internet from the sky

Got the invite to join the "Better than Nothing" beta testers yesterday. Placed the order immediately. We will see how it works for me. Quoted 2-4 week lead time. Lenp -
Looking to get an HDT and a toy hauler, any tips appreciated.
lenp replied to Dan Hoeger's topic in HDT
Toy hauler and HDT are probably your best bet. I would think long and hard about a m/c lift on the back of a class A. I have one on my class A but seldom use due to overloading of the rear axle. Loading that 900 pound bike and the weight of the carrier itself (200+ pounds) several feet from the rear axle will offload the front axle significantly. My '15 Street Glide weighed 920 pounds and it (with the carrier) added nearly 2000 pounds the rear axle. There are formulas available to calculate how much you will add. Have not had my '19 on the carrier yet. Bike only gets loaded for one local trip a year of about 300 miles RT on 55mph roads. If I had it to do over it would be HDT and fiver. RIDE ON!!! Lenp -

Is there a chance you have left a program running when you "shut down"? I have had issues if I don't close all programs the computer will not shut down. It usually asks are you sure and the option to "shut down anyway" is clicked it will shut down but sometimes I am in a hurry and just close the lid after selecting shut down and I come back the next day and it is still running. I have an older Lorax wired (8 cameras) monitoring house and shop. I can access it via internet PLUS it has motion sensor capability that will send me an email photo when it senses anything. It is about ten years old and probably due for upgrade but I probably never will. If I am not home and someone breaks in and steals me blind I might have some photos of him/her but I seriously doubt law enforcement will ever catch them and even if the did the chances of recovering anything is small. Good insurance is a must. Lenp

When you were on the roof checking the vents did you try running water down the vent to ensure it wasn't clogged somewhere between the roof and the tank(s)? Also, the photo of the vent that was caulked appears that the vent pipe was (is) pushed down too far perhaps limiting air flow????? All of mine protrude some from the roof. Lenp

Vent and furnace fan interferes with TV reception
lenp replied to etu's topic in Technical Tips and Tricks
If you measure battery voltage across the battery you should read somewhere between 12.5 & 13.5 volts depending on the charge state. If there is a bad connection anywhere (chassis ground, battery terminals, bad cable, etc.) there WILL be some additional voltage drop across that bad connection. If all connections are in good condition you should measure nearly the same voltage at any load in the RV. Simply drop a light fixture from the ceiling (or any other place) and measure the voltage at the wires coming into the fixture with the light turned ON. It should be within a few tenths of a volt of what the batteries read across the battery terminals. Lenp -

Is there a chance you have a bad ground connection from battery negative to chassis? Clean all battery and ground connections for a start. You could also check your battery voltage at the load end (with a load) - say across a light that is turned on. A bad ground could/would drop significant voltage and cause all kinds of RFI issues Lenp -
Didn't work for me either but there is a way around.... Simply right click on the link and select "copy link address" and then paste it into the address bar on your browser Lenp

Have one in both cars, motorhome AND front and rear on the Harley. Kind of fun reliving the twisty roads we ride. https://www.facebook.com/100010142166047/videos/1364395643908495 Hope the link works. Lenp

Linda, Glad you got it solved!!!!! Len

Doc, Just for clarification...... you say the data used via the lightning cable does not count toward the hotspot limit but (please correct me if I am wrong) it still counts toward your providers data plan limits doesn't it? Thanks, Len

Linda, Did this rig come with this water heater or was it added later? If added later, there may well be a water heater bypass installed that the dealer may have "activated" when they winterized and it never got de-activated. Since the heater comes on even when a cold water tap is opened there has to be a cross connect someplace. Len

As others have noted there is probably a drop in pressure when you flush. How is your water pressure? City water or pump from tank? If it is lower than you usually have the flow sensor on the input to the water heater may be more sensitive to the toilet flush. One thing you didn't mention.... how long does the heater stay on when flushing? The entire time flush water is running or just when first starting? Do you have an outside shower? If so, make sure both hot and cold are turned OFF - not just the plunger on the wand. When those are left open they act as a mixer valve for hot and cold water and could easily result in your flushing with both hot and cold water. Lenp

We had a '84 (I think) Shasta class A with bunk over the driver/passenger seats. Not much use for adults but good for kids (if they don't fall out). Lenp

Leave your engine running while you extend your slides or awning. Then start the engine before bringing them in. Should be no need for generator for a single night. Lenp

Have to agree Navy Federal is high on my list. I have been a member for forty years and NEVER had an issue. ATM agreements make it easy to get cash if needed. Easy and quick loan approval if needed. I do have a loan with a local credit union that was able to beat Navy Federal by 0.25%. I don't think you will regret going with them. Lenp

Norcold N611 not cooling in HOT weather
lenp replied to gypsydan's topic in Technical Tips and Tricks
I agree with the fans mentioned above. However, on the last two fivers I had frig problems with I discovered the manufacturer DID NOT follow installation requirements for specified spacing and baffle requirements. I don't remember exactly but it was something like no more than four inches between the upper fins and the rear wall or a baffle needed to be installed to direct air over the coils. Correcting the enclosure requirements improved performance significantly. I added fans while the unit was out and added a switch to them so I could compare operation with and without - basically to see if the enclosure corrections had helped. Might be worth checking to ensure the rear chimney area is clear all the way to the top. Good luck! Lenp -
Boondocking running AC 24/7 for 2-3 days. Designing a power system!
lenp replied to Worg's topic in Boondocking
Keep in mind that many parks/areas do not allow generator use 24/7. Lenp -
IF the pedestal is not wired with both L1 and L2 (240 volts) your load management system (if it is like mine) will think you have only 30 amps available and will shed loads to maintain less than 30 amps. At least that is how mine works. Lenp

Friend who is a retired Oregon State Police officer tells me of an incident several years ago when he heard a fellow officer report that he had issued warnings to TWO double towing rigs in Klamath Falls. A few hours later another officer stopped the same two rigs in Bend and he also issued a warning (both officers told the drivers to drop there second tow and return to get it AFTER dropping their first tow). My friend (stationed in Madras - 45 miles north of Bend) waited patiently and, sure enough, they passed through Madras still doubled up. He issued citations to both and impounded both of the second tows. Significant fine if I remember correctly plus impound fees. Lenp

Trimster, I would never have remembered if my Harley didn't do the same thing. Glad you got it figured out. Lenp
