  1. Yeah, I should have read more of the thread before answering his reply to me. You're right. He fails to accept other people have different priorities than him. I'm out.
  2. Well, I'm glad things have worked out so well for you. Personally, I wouldn't live in Calif. I did for almost 3 years and that was enough. No way I'd consider even visiting L.A. SO, you can have it. I have owned 2 houses, one in NH and the other is my current house in Fla. Maybe it is because I owned the NH house for less than 4 years, but it was a money loser, despite selling it for about 10K more than I paid. After interest, taxes, upkeep, etc, it just wasn't worth the ass pain. My Fla house has been home for over 14 yrs. Yes, I will sell it at a profit, too. And I used it's equity to feather my nest. But, once again, the ass pain of home ownership is NOT worth the effort, IMO. I hope to get it sold before something else breaks and needs replaced. I am REALLY looking forward to going fulltime in my depreciated 5er that is worth well under half of what I paid for it 3 yrs ago...especially since it is an orphan. But you know what?? I will be able to live in comfort in different environments for the next several years with all the pleasures of home. You keep repeating you're so happy with your $100K Class B, but then you mention how it is small. No way I'd spend that kind of dough on a small rig, but so what? It's your money to throw away as you see fit, just as it is my money to throw away as I see fit.
  3. O.k., so you're well off. Great. How much money have you put into that $650K house over the past 36 years? How much have you paid in taxes on that house over those 36 yrs? Have you ever figured out the total cost of YOUR home ownership? Something tells me there isn't $550K profit. Unless, of course, you never had to do a repair/replace/refurbish/pay taxes, etc, on the house.
  4. Buy a house. Spend $20K updating the kitchen. $10K updating the bathroom. $20K replacing the roof. $8K replacing the A/C. $5K painting the exterior. Whatever to replace the water heater. Some of these costs happen every 10 - 15 years, depending on one's tastes. Of course, the initial purchase price varies, as do the costs of the other expenses, but if anyone thinks owning a home is a good deal, prove it.
  5. My local independent RV shop uses a fork lift with a fifth wheel hitch device mounted on the forks. That may or may not be an option for you. Certainly larger than the tow dolly and possibly more expensive. Or not.
  6. Printed out the Technomadia article cited above and took it to the Verizon store I got my 8800 from. Got a new SIM, new account, and new number. 8800 STILL shows the "No Data" statement mentioned in the article. Will not know if the issue is really fixed until the beginning of next month when I use the 8800 again. If it isn't fixed, I'll move to Option 2, Open a trouble ticket.
  7. VERY helpful post and article. Printing it out and taking it with me when I go to the Verizon store.
  8. My 8800 hasn't worked right since I bought it in December. I "think" there is some type of software conflict between my old and new account. It chokes at unpredictable times, usually while streaming a TV show via Dish On Demand. When I bought the 8800, someone at Verizon changed the device's phone number to my OLD device's number. I think THAT act is the root of the problem, despite Verizon saying it isn't. My 8800, on the prepaid unlimited account, shows a renewal date on the 10th of each month (date old acct renewed) and a data limit of 10240 gb. My acct is NOT an auto renewal, and ends on the 22d of each month, as well as being unlimited!! Next week I'm taking it to my local Verizon store and requesting a replacement device. The new sim card they gave me last week did nothing to solve the problem. The person at the store told me I'll have to leave the device since it is prepaid until the replacement device comes in. Good thing I don't need it for 2 weeks.
  9. Since you said you can use Amazon, just use them instead of hauling multiple bags with you. By now you should have a good idea of how long a bag lasts you. If you really want a buffer, order another bag once you open a bag.
  10. I have not changed the password and my 8800 STILL has drop outs.
  11. I have been having a LOT of failures on my 8800. I think the Verizon cell signal quality where I am is just not strong enough to support my demands. I have been using it to stream Dish On Demand shows while simultaneously surfing. Something just gets choked. The other night I was downloading an 8gb software update to my computer. It failed at 0.9 gb each time I attempted the download. At that time, all I was doing was the download. I'll give it a shot again in a few days when I get home. If nothing else, I'll just use the cable connection at home.
  12. Original mattress was thin junk from the Colorado Mattress Co. Replaced it with a regular mattress from a mattress store. It was fine for a few years, but I wanted a king bed in the RV since we have a king in the S&B. I'm VERY happy with the Purple mattress I bought for the RV. Not cheap, but sleep is GREAT, now that I'm used to it. If you KNOW what bed you have in you S&B and you are happy with it, consider buying one for your RV. That should mean no adjustment period that sometimes happens when sleeping on a new mattress. Only complaint about the original recliners is my foot/recliner lever doesn't always work. When the time comes, it will be replaced with a Lazy Boy.
  13. I have not used my 8800 for several days. Today I powered it on and it says no internet. My account says I have gone over my data...on my prepaid unlimited plan. Maybe it is time to do a factory reset and see what happens.
  14. I HATE checking tire pressures on my duals. With my TST system, I no longer have to on any tire. When I initially installed them, I was VERY careful to inflate to the correct pressure as shown on a KNOWN good gauge. Once I installed the TPMS sensors, I wrote down the reading. Regardless of what that showed, I KNEW it was a good baseline reading. Now when I get in my truck, I only have to mess with tire air pressure if the reading is below my comfort level...which isn't very often. Only negative is the sensors seem to restrict airflow so I remove them to add the air. Minor issue, but still a PITA. And, I had one blowout and 2 flats on previous 5ers BEFORE I added TPMS. The blowout would not have been detected. The 2 flats would have and I could have found a safe place to change the tires instead of along the side of I-75 for one and a back road for the other.
  15. Consider what repairs/replacements the house may need in the next 5+ yrs; new roof, new air con, new appliances, etc. If you're not sure, maybe spend $300 for a professional home inspector to inspect and give you a written report. If you decide to sell, you could use the info to fix things that need fixing prior to listing the house. Our house will be listed next Monday. I have strongly considered renting. Nearly every realtor I interviewed has someone in their office who is their rental coordinator. Realtor told me I could easily rent my house to cover the mortgage. Wouldn't have much extra for monthly profit, but someone else would be paying my mortgage. Then I remembered the home inspector's report from when I re-fied a few years ago. If the inspector's crystal ball is accurate, within 8 yrs the house will need a new roof ($15+K), and new air con (~$7K) and I have a feeling at least a new dishwasher and fridge (~$2K combined). Plus, I have no intentions of coming back to this house and the wife is definitely not interested in coming back. So selling makes the most sense for us.
  16. My 4510-L (it is an older model) will cycle off and on once it is fully charged and still plugged in. I plan to buy a new jet pack in the not too distant future.
  17. Took my mifi to a Verizon store today and signed up for the prepaid. Got back to the RV and the mifi keeps connecting then disconnecting from the signal. Signal meter shows strong signal, then it is gone. Don't know if it is a hardware or software problem. Will deal with it later in the week.

  19. I had a brand new Heartland Cyclone. It felt good at the show, but once we started using it, the comfort went away and the plethora of problems arrived. Got rid of it in a year. Best move I ever made. The cost was worth it.
  20. I prefer to use chat. But, more than once the Dish rep refused to change the locals based only on zip code. They wanted a street address. Didn't matter if I told them I was parked in a field with no street address, they insisted. I once used "123 Any Street", then the town, state and zip. I KNOW they can just go by zip code and I told them I knew it. Didn't matter. This happened on weekend evenings. I guess the "B" team was working then. Never had a problem if I did it in the afternoon.
  21. No, I don't. Didn't have one in any of the 3 RVs I have owned.
  22. By "tall" model, do you mean the 18" toilet? Or is there a taller one than that? Sprayer or no sprayer? I would worry about the sprayer hose popping off when driving and then water squirting all over the place one hooked up at an RV park...at least until I noticed the wet floor.
  23. Check with your insurance agent before you buy.
  24. Oh man, you aren't kidding!! I'm more than 10 yrs from TFL eligibility, but have several non-mil friends who are over 65. When they talk about their health insurance costs, I just bite my tongue and feel bad for them. Their insurance, plus co-pays, plus supplements to cover them is, in some cases, $500 a month.
