  1. Day's End is published by an Escapee. A compendium of boondocking information from all over the US by those of us who've actually been there.
  2. You pay for fuel with cash?
  3. I don't expect ATMs to be there for free.
  4. I heard that as "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you."
  5. Posts like this are what make runs on things happen. Like the toilet paper thing.
  6. X2. I frequent the Salton Sea campgrounds, and all the sites, no matter how little use they get, are reservable, which is nuts. Your non-reserved occupied space will not show as taken on the reservation site because park staff can't do that.
  7. I've seen that myself and wondered if the reservation system was functioning properly. Just yesterday a maintenance worker at a FCFS Lake Mead campground told me to "reserve" a site by pitching a cheap tent a few days ahead of my actual arrival time. I don't like gaming the system and would never do that - because I hate when others do it.
  8. Okay. She's put on a few extra ounces too.
  9. Cats are so funny. No, can't say I've had that happen, but since getting her a water fountain she drinks a LOT of water and the box gets dirty very quickly.
  10. I tried an address change, no joy. I don't know if Amex would even know if the purchase was attempted and that's what happened. They couldn't tell me anything. Anyway, I'm typing this on a brand new 17" ASUS chromebook and it's pretty sweet for under $300.
  11. I opted to make a suitable purchase from BB. No problem. No, they won't tell you why.. as if anybody knew except the systems programmers, and you can't talk to them.
  12. I'm in the Las Vegas area with a home address in New Mexico. I've tried, several times, to make an online computer purchase from the Henderson Walmart, and 4 times it's been canceled due to "unusual activity." American Express is not rejecting the purchase. Chase is not rejecting it. My cards are in good standing, and I buy online from Amazon all the time. Walmart is my only choice for this particular computer I want. I chatted with a Walmart associate and he said WM's fraud software was rejecting it. Of course he wouldn't get specific as to why. He said he'd override and for me to try again in 30 minutes. Did that. No luck. WTH? Anybody with a clue as to what's going on?
  13. I guess so. It's been pretty quiet today so the cat and I are enjoying it. Next week isn't looking good so I think I'll head up to Henderson where it may be colder but not so windy. I do love this Big Bend of the Colorado campground.
  14. Yeah.. I know. We're getting some really strong gusts today. Kicking up dust like crazy. Usually it's just steady and annoying but today it's fierce. Everything's going to be filthy. Maybe next year I'll forget this RV thing and fly to Hawaii.
  15. At least I'm parallel to it instead of it hitting me broadside. And it's fairly warm. I was going to move to Las Vegas but it looks colder there. I've been in some Lake Mead winds that were absolutely terrifying. Fortunately I put the satellite dish on the leeward side.
  16. I'm near Laughlin NV and the dang wind just will not stop blowing. Day after day, and now it's going to blow all night and tomorrow. A little respite would be nice, but I don't see that right now. You folks in Quartzsite are lucky to escape it.. at least from the weather reports I see. I don't come south for this!!! ARG! Thanks for listening. That is all.
  17. Reply from Ccrane: " It is possible for RV parks (or other business networks) to block repeaters/extenders via advanced settings. However, it is unusual for them to take this step. In that case they are allowing a connection only to be made to a single MAC address. Since the WiFi antenna and repeater/extender both have individual MAC addresses that's where they can block them. On the off chance they are not blocking them though, try resetting the unit from scratch to see if it will connect to the parks TOS login page. If it still doesn't work then they must indeed have a security setting blocking."
  18. I'm using my phone to write this, but I'm not on an "unlimited" plan, I'm using its hotspot, and hotspots have their limits on any plan. Just curious about what's up with these idiot CG services. This is not the first time this has happened, and it's always in Nevada. I camp at Mesa Verde which has NO cell service, but does have pretty good wifi with repeaters all over the place, and the extender works well there. I've emailed Crane tech support to see what they say.
  19. Campground wifi has become a real nemesis for me. I'm talking about the kind where you have to pay for service. You'd think I'd know better when the signal is poor to weak, but I somehow think it will work if I'm able to get the Sign up page and pay. No, that's not what's happening. What happens is that it works for a while, a few hours maybe, then after that it's good luck getting anything. I'm in this situation right now where I've paid for 3 days of unlimited service, but not only is it slow, it's intermittent. I'm about 500' from the antenna. The only way to use it effectively is to go to the building where the antenna is. The Sign Up page doesn't say "You will not be able to use this inside your Rv." Now for the real head scratcher. I have a CCrane long range wifi extender antenna, a small parabolic antenna which captures and amplifies signals inside my coach. That's worked well in many situations, but not here. It will not bring up the sign in page of the wifi provider.. it simply times out. I don't need a passphrase to get into the system, but it does need a username and password. Tech support from this company says "We do not support the use of extenders." Is that true? Is that even possible?
  20. It remains to be seen if a $300 LifePo performs as well and lasts as long as a $900 one.
