  1. I was in a 55+ Park once and a couple who were in their 70s had their 49 yr old daughter come stay with them. The park, after a couple of week, made he move out.
  2. I use the Escapees mail forwarding service using the SD address as my domicle. I use the TX address for my banking. Escapees charges to forward your mail from SD to TX to be processed and then charges you to forward it to your location so that is why I have everything except drivers liscense, registration, insurance and health insurance sent to the TX address. It does make it a little complicated having two addresses and I may change to a SD mail forwarding service at the end of the year and have one SD address.
  3. Walking stick, stun gun or tazer, pepper spray or bear spray and finally if all else fails a hand gun.
  4. A lot depends on where you plan to stay and what you intend to use. If you plan on boondocking a lot you may want to consider getting a generator especially if you plan on using an air conditioner.
  5. I no longer go on FaceBook because I found it to be anti-social media rather than social media. This Forum and iRV2 are now like being in Jr High School with all the bickering. Let’s all be adults and say positive posts. Let’s stop with the negitive. I am here to learn from others and respond with information others may need, not to play games and have drama.
  6. I have an AmEx card and use the Escapees TX mail forwarding address for my mailing address with the Escapees SD address as my domicle and have had no problems.
  7. Kirk, I just renewed my drivers liscense in SD last year and was told by the DMV in Rapid City that because I have a PMB I had to renew in person and could not renew by mail. Renewal by mail according to them requires a physical address in SD. I looked up the law and found them to be correct.
  8. Actually they are law enforcement, carry a badge and a gun and have the right to search for fruit and vegetables if you consent which is an exception to the requirement for a warrant. You do have the right to refuse and turn around and go back from where you came.
  9. SD drivers liscense can be renewed online every 5 years if you have a physical address in SD. If you have a PMB you must appear in person once every 5 years to renew and show proof of at least one night stay. You can renew your annual registration by mail. You do not need to take any test, and you do not need a special comercial license. No inspection is required to get you tags either.
  10. There are many volunteer jobs in National and State Parks that, although they are non paying, do give you a free campsite and hookups. You can find them on volunteer.gov. Also there are paying jobs on workcamper.com. Also as mentioned above Escapees has a job board. KOA also has a job board for KOA Campgrounds and most are paying jobs with a campsite. Additionally you may be able to find temp positions like doing tax returns during tax season at H&R Block or Jackson Hewlett or retail employment during Christmas season etc.
  11. If your heading to Las Vegas from Casa Grande you can also take Hwy 93 out of Phoenix all the way to Vegas and avoid CA all together.
  12. Escapees Parks located in Benson, casa Grande, Congress, and Yuma are all very inexpensive and allows you the opportunity to move every month as you stated are your desires and not break the bank.
  13. The rule was that you could not wash your rig, not that the owner couldn’t wash it for you, lol lol lol. I am handicapped so I can’t wash and wax my rig by myself. When I get down south for the winter I usually pay someone to wash and wax my rig once a year, about $350/$400. Last fall in Phoenix I was charged $500, man it’s getting expensive but they did a fantastic job. As I travel in the summer I usually stop at a Blue Beacon Truck wash a couple of times, about $60/$70 for just a wash. This most recent time, however, was the worst wash I have ever had at a Blue Beacon, in York NE. I may have to look into getting someone to come to the campground and wash my rig. I think a wash without a wax is only about $100. Not much more than Blue Beacon and should be a better job.
  14. Go to Cabellas, Bas Pro Shop etc and go to the hunting section. They will have good inexpensive weather radios
  15. Welcome. Where would you like to go to boondock? What would you like to do? Hike, bird watch, photography, mountain bike? Escapees has a solo section you may be interested in if you are a solo.
  16. I’m not a tax expert but I suppose you could file jointly for your federal return and she will have to file a separate state return but I would check with a tax attorney or CPA in NC to be sure.
  17. I have my Aqua Hot system serviced annually for about $200. It’s not worth my time to do it myself and save $200. I would rather enjoy life and let some one else who is more qualified do it for me.
  18. Glad no one was hurt. The good news is they will be getting a new RV soon as that one looks totaled.
  19. I have DirecTv but don’t have DNS. I just call them and change my locals a few times a year when I move about. Haven’t received any emails except for my bill.
  20. I believe back then Escapees brokered Coach Net. Escapees no longer uses CN and is selling service with SafeRide. FMCA is also selling SafeRide. They all ( Couch Net, Good Sam, and SafeRide) use the same towing companies.
  21. How can a 5th wheel, which has to be towed by a truck, be covered, but not the truck towing it?
  22. I am a full timer and have found many insurance companies will not write fulltime RV coverage. Farmers, Liberty Mutual, Safeco a division of Liberty, Hartford (AARP) State Farm are a few to mention who will not. Foremost a division of Farmers specializes in boats, RV, motorcycles. Progressive is another like Formost that will. I currently have Geico, for the RV, Jeep, Motorcycle and an Umbrella as well as 3 Landloard policies on my rental properties. Geico doesn’t have agents, you have to call them, tell them what State your vehicles are tagged in and they will quote you as well as write the policy.
  23. No large dogs rule is a joke. I see many dog owners in the RV Resorts walk their small dogs while they ride along in a golf cart. They stop to let the dog do it’s business, never getting out of the cart and then continue to drive on without picking up what is left behind on the ground. Never see a large dog owner walk their dog using a golf cart.
  24. I am a lawyer but not a tax lawyer. The rules for deducting an office in your home are that the area used as an office must not be used for anything else and you must not have any other office anywhere. As far as deducting an RV and travel expenses associated with using it for your business . . . Many business have boats etc. and deduct them and the expenses associated with the vehicle but it is used only for business purposes. If you use your RV exclusively for business it may be deductible but if you are living in it and sleeping in it you probably would not be allowed to deduct it. Now if you are a corporation or LLC and the business owned the vehicle it may be deductible as a business expense. I recommend that you seek the advise of a Tax Lawyer or qualified CPA. Your are treading on a very thin area of tax law.
  25. When I had a fifth wheel I had a Ford F-350. Mine was a 6.7 Diesel. Don’t get the 6.0or 6.4. I went with the 8 ft bed just to have the ability of a thighter turning radis. Also I didn’t want to have a sliding hitch. My Ford came from the factory with the fifth wheel prep package so it was easy to just drop in the hitch.
