  1. Having rental property in CA doesn’t require you to have a CA domicle. I have rental property in CA and just file a non resident State tax return. I use the Escapees SD address to registure and insure my vehicles, and I have a SD drivers license. No individual income tax in SD. Health insurance is another issue. Thankfully I just turned 65 and now have Medicare.
  2. Many car dealers will run your credit before they begin negotiations to make sure you are a qualified buyer, but they don’t require a deposit. I would imaging a RV dealer could do the same, absent the deposit. Also remember the selling dealer (car and RV) makes a commission on the financing and extended warranty. If you go get your own financing they don’t make as much so they want to lock you in by making you give them a deposit.
  3. Yes the Alpine Inn has a great steak but limited choices. However the desert menu is like a book, about 5 or 6 pages. Remember to bring cash. Last time I went there they did not accept credit or debit cards.
  4. Get your own financing thru your bank or credit union. Get pre-approved and then go shopping for your vehicle and or trailer.
  5. Very funny Joe. I laughed so hard I almost fell off my chair. 😆. Glad to know you have a sense of humor. Drive safe my friend. Oh andleave me a sign that you were in Moab. I’ll be there the end of Sept. where are you staying. I got in Moab Rim RV Park.
  6. I contribute every time I go to a park recommend by the site and pay them to stay in their park.
  7. A friend of mine bought a Thor Ace and had multiple problems with it. She to it back for warranty repairs at least a half dozen or more times. She had to go to Thor Corporate and hire a lawyer. I don’t think she ever got it fixed correctly.
  8. Try searching on campgroundreviews.com. Click on TX, go to the left and click on San Angelo..
  9. She said she wanted good quality tools. They would be something that doesn’t need replacement every couple of years for added expense. If you buy quality you actually save money in the long run. And sure I will buy your bridge if you will take a check.
  10. A friend of mine tows a Chevy P/U. I think it’s a 2018 1500. Not sure.
  11. Most National Parks have upgraded their campgrounds and can now take longer rigs. However there are fewer bigger sites than short ones, so availability may still be a problem. With a 5th wheel you can often fit in a smaller site by letting the rear behind the rear axel hang over the tire stop if there is no obstruction like a tree. However you may not be able to maneuver thru the campground due to sharp curves and/or trees along the route to your site.
  12. docj I believe we are not talking about power tools but hand tools. As far as power tools I agree with you that brands such as those that you mentioned are of high quality. All my power tools are Milwaukee. I was only referencing hand tools.

Don’t want to steal your thread Paul, but I too have a Harley for sale. 2009 Fat Boy, original owner, always garaged, dealer installed 103 kit and Harley Race Tuner, 2 into 1 Thunderheader exhaust, brand new battery, newer tires, 17,000 miles. Asking $11,995 but will go $10, 500 for an Escapee member. It’s in a garage in Nampa ID, a suburb of Bosie. For more info just PM me. By the way Paul’s Street Glide is the most popular Harley model. I have a 2011 CVO Street Glide too. That’s why I’m selling the Fat Boy. Only have room for one Harley on the HydroLift.
  14. As Kirk says, hail in the Black Hills is not a daily occurrence but it does happen often enough to be of concern. I volunteered in Custer State Park for 3 summers in a row. I did experience hail damage to the plastic covers of my 3 A/Cs and 2 fantastic fans and had to replace all 5 of them. I spent $500 replacing them myself. I also had hail damage on my Ford F-350 hood and roof. When I traded in the Ford I got dinged again on the trade value due to the hail damage.
  15. If you like cheep tools that break easy Harbor Freight is right up your alley. If you want to invest in quality tools that are long lasting and won’t need to be replaced in a couple of years then tools like Craftsman are what you should invest in. It is not just a purchase, it is an investment.
  16. Thanks bigjim, you are correct. It was Wild Bill not Buffalo Bill. It’s easy to mix them up.
  17. I have been volunteering for over 6 years now. It seems like the requirements for the volunteer are going up. It used to be only 24 hours a week. Now most want 30/32 hours. With the personnel shortage most agencies are experiencing the paid employees (park staff) are making volunteer workers do the work they don’t want to do. It’s difficult to even find a camp host job that doesn’t require a volunteer to clean toilets. I didn’t retire to volunteer to clean toilets. I had one State Park want me to pay them for the background check to volunteer for a non paying job. One State Park wanted me to volunteer to work 7 days a week, saying it’s only 4 hours a day. No time off to explore the area. It’s getting to the point that I would much rather pay for my site and not volunteer.
  18. Harbor Freight is a good place to pick up cheep tools that you only intend to use once. Lowe’s now sells Craftsman tools. Home Depo also has good quality tools. You don’t need much. Get a tool box to put everything in. A crescent wrench, Small hammer, Phillips head and regular screwdriver, duck tape, pliers and needle nose pliers, wire cutter, etc. also get a socket set.
  19. Not a tire story but similar. When I was a kid growing up in upstate NY I remember a car hit a deer. The deer went thru the front windshield on the passenger side, was cut in half by the glass and the rear end of the deer went out the back window and thru the front windshield of the car following behind killing the female driver in the second car.
  20. When I bought my 3 axel fifth wheel it came with what I called China Bombs for tires. Within 4 months I had two blowouts. Brand new trailer! Had the tires inspected and was told that 2 more were ready to blow and the remaining 2 didn’t look good. I replaced all 6 with Mitchelin XPS Ribs. Cost me about $2,200. Wonderful tires. Had them for 5 years before I sold the trailer and got a Class A. Hardly ever had to add air. They had reinforced sidewalls. Also agree that you need to have a tire monitoring system. I have the TST 507 andjust upgraded to the color monitor.
  21. My health insurance will take care of most of my medical needs. I look at FMCAs Emergency Travel Assistance to take care of my dog and get my RV out of my campsite and into storage for me while I am hospitalized. I am a solo full timer and do not have a sticks and bricks and almost never have any family in the area I am staying in.
  22. The biggest difference between the F-250 and 350 I believe is that the 350 has an additional leaf spring. This could make a difference if you were getting a 5th wheel but with a bumper pull it might not matter, unless you think you may possibly move up to a 5er in the future. I had a 2012 F-350 Turbo Diesel with the factory 5th wheel prep package when I had a 5th wheel before I bought my Class A. Could not tow it 4 down. I think from 2015 or 2016 they can be towed 4 down. In 2011 Ford went to a 6.7 L Diesel Motor. Do not get a 6.0 or 6.4 older motor. Ford had problems with them. However, the 2013-2015 models should have the better 6.7
  23. I just purchased their RA a few months ago. They use SafeRide, same company that Escapees has for their RA. I paid $69 but I think the price went up to $74 now. Escapees members pay $99. Haven’t needed to use it yet but it’s good to have.
  24. You purchase liability insurance hoping you will never have an accident. I have never heard of anyone suggesting putting the premium in a savings account. I have $500,000 limits on my policy. Buy term and invest the difference never works either. If you were buying a trailer then maybe go without an extended warranty but you are buying a diesel motorhome with a motor, transmission and lots of appliances and components. Make sure it is an all inclusive policy that lists anything that is NOT covered and NOT a policy that only lists what is covered leaving everything else out. The price you stated for Good Sam sounds high and I have seen many negitive reviews regarding Good Sam. Shop around, you don’t have to buy from the selling dealer. Check out Wholesale Warranties, who is a broker for many companies.
  25. Most all RV showers have a vender at the show who is a distributor for TST and will have a show discount. I don’t remember where I bought mine but when I upgraded to the color monitor I was at the Quartzsite RV Show.
