  1. I am a fulltimer and move about every 3 months. To find a new DR I just go on the Medicare website and click on Find a DR. I enter the local zip code and get a list of DRs in the area, call one and make an appointment. I rarely see the same Dr 2x.
  2. Heading to FL for the winter. Not familiar with toll roads. Lived most of my life in CA and used freeways. I see that there are several options. I have a Class A, a Jeep Wrangler tow and a Harley. I can purchase a transponder from Sun Pass, EZ Pass , E Pass and E Pass Extra. Been told that Sun Pass works everywhere in FL, EZ Pass does not, E Pass also does not and E Pass Express works everywhere in Fl and 18 eastern States. What are most of you using?
  3. I have a 2015 Itasca with a Cummings 450. Heading to FL for the winter. Looking for a good RV service center to do my annual maintaince around the Orlando area. Called Orlando Cummings but they want $1200 to $1500 including the generator. They want another $395 to inspect the chassis and brakes. Last year was in Phoenix and had La Mesa RV do it for $585. The year before I used Massey Diesel in Phoenix who charged me $550 plus $250 for the generator for a total of $800 including checking the chassis and breaks. I think Cummings is a little overpriced so am looking for a good shop. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.
  4. You can get your mail forwarding address now but that alone does not change your domicle. If you are going to continue to work for awhile you can get the new address now but wait to get your drivers liscense and registration till you actually retire. That way you can still file your tax return in your old State as a resident. In the meantime you can get mail at the new address to use to obtain your drivers liscense in the near future when you are ready to change your domicle.
  5. I would not eliminate SD just because of the weather. You can purchase your truck and trailer in TX but still have a SD domicle for all the reasons I listed above. You only need to go to SD for one night, stay in a hotel and get your drivers liscense. You don’t need a special drivers liscense to drive an RV, no inspection to registure and renew, lower sales tax and lower insurance premiums. As far as employment and health insurance. Could you find a German company that needs an employee in the US?
  6. I have a friend that is a fulltimer that purchased a brand new Thor Ace from Camping World in Rapid City SD a couple of years ago. She had multiple problems with it. Took it back to CW in Rapid City and several other CW locations as well as other Thor dealers at least a dozen times in the first year of ownership. She even contacted Thor’s regional manager, but it was still an ongoing nightmare. She finally had to get a lawyer to contact Thor’s legal department. Thor would still not take the unit back as a lemon but did get involved with CW to get the issues resolved. Not sure if she ever got everything fixed.
  7. First, when getting your drivers liscense, South Dakota also has you sign an affidavit of domicle, as I suppose any State would. Second, you can buy your truck and trailer in any State ( for example FL, TX, or AZ ) and still registure them in TX or SD. Its only the drivers liscense that requires a personal appearance. SD only requires a one night stay and it can be in any hotel or campground anywhere in the State. Also SD sales tax which you will have to pay when you register your truck and trailer is only 4%. I’m not sure but I think TX is 7%? In addition, depending where in each State, you registure, SD generally has lower insurance premiums. In addition if you plan on renewing your registration in a year TX requires a physical inspection, SD does not, and you can reregisture by mail. If you get a larger RV, like a Class A Diesel, TX requires a special drivers liscense SD does not require anything but a regular drivers liscense. However for a truck and trailer I don’t think TX requires a special drivers liscense.
  8. I have been using the Rhino hoses for 7 years now. I am full time and use the hose 24/7/365. My first Rhino Flex hose lasted 5 years but got a tiny pin hole from a thorn on the ground and had to be repalced. I replace it with the new Rhino Extream hose which is 2 years old and no problems.
  9. I have used the Escapees mail service since 2015. Never had a problem. I just call them on the phone a couple of times a month and ask that my mail be sent to wherever I am. They repeat my request and advise me that my mail will go out the following day. I always get an email the next day that my mail was sent out and the address it was sent to with a tracking number. The only problem was this week when I called I was #38 on the que. I used the call back option for the first time. They called me back in about a half hour and took my request. My only complaint is that I use the So Dakota domicle and my mail regarding my drivers liscense, vehicle registrations and insurance mail must go to SD. They charge me additional postage to forward this mail to Livingston. If you are going to offer a different address to use as a domicle I should not have to pay extra to have this mail sent to Livingston, in my opinion, but it is only a few bucks, so I can live with it.
  10. I have a 2015 Itasca Ellipse 42QD. It’s the same as the Winnebago Tour 42QD. I have 3 slides. Two on the passenger side, kitchen and bedroom and one on the drivers side which is a full wall slide.
  11. Not true. A waiting period is State law not Federal law. I have purchased many long guns and hand guns without any waiting period in several states where I have lived (AZ, SD, NE, ID) from gun stores, not private sales.
  12. My drain the the shower is slow. If I use drano, or liquid plumber will it hurt my plumbing? Any recommendations on other products?
  13. Randy, a Medicare Advantage plan is very restrictive. It does not pay everything everywhere. You must be in network (your state of residence). If you are out of network you will be responsible for a larger portion of the bill. A Medicare Supplement Plan will pay most of your bill not covered by Medicare almost anywhere. If you have a Advantage Plan you don’t need part D, it is included. If you have a Supplement you may purchase a Part D Prescription Plan and it will be good almost anywhere. So if you have a Part D paid for by your wife’s employer than you must also have a Supplement Plan not a Advantage Plan paid for by her employer. Just an FYI. I’m not implying that you are incorrect. Your wife’s employer may have something special or doesn’t know the difference.
  14. I have had United of Omaha for a year now. Found out on my Welcome to Medicare physical that I am diabetic. UofO has paid every claim promptly. When Medicare started it was UofO that set up the claims process for the Federal Government. When I was doing my due diligence last year I saw nothing but bad reviews about Humana. Don’t know anything about Asuris. AARP is an organization that I choose not to be a member of. United Health Care does seem to be the most popular however.
  15. A drivers license is also State controlled. The States could grant resoprocity to out of State fishing license holders like they do for a drivers license.
  16. Lawyers are liscensed by the State. What State will you be filing a potential law suit in? You can call the State Bar Asso. for a referral by speciality in that state. Many local county bar associations also have lawyer referall programs.
  17. Before I went full time I lived in San Diego and rode my Harley 365 days a year. Now that I am retired and full time I ride less! Been staying in AZ for most winters. Going to FL this winter to check it out.
  18. Your agent does not need to be located in SD just licensed to sell insurance in SD. Miller is a good place to start. They are a broker for many companies. I used them for many years. Switched to Geico a few years ago and saved $$$. Geico is one of the few insurance companies who will write a fulltimers policy in SD. I suggest you get a quote from Geico as well as Miller. They have no agents and you have to call them direct. If you get your RV and tow with Geico, as well as most insurance companies, you will get a multi vehicle policy discount.
  19. Once Peter Sellers was asked by a stranger if his dog bites. He replied no. The stranger went to pet the dog standing next to Sellers and it bit the stranger. The stranger said “I thought you said that your dog doesn’t bite?” Sellers replied, “ that’s not my dog!” LOL LOL LOL 😆
  20. I am fulltime. I have just enough clothes to last a week or two. I don’t have any cold weather clothing. When it get cold I head south. That is how I winterize too, just head south. My clothes can never get moldy because I ware them all the time.
  21. Update. The mobil tech came yesterday. The water pump was fine. The problem was an air bubble in the line. He opened the valves on the outside showerand the air passed out. I have never used this shower or opened those valves so not sure how the air got in. He said that the outside shower valves were the closest to the location of the pump and that is why the inside faucets didn’t let the air bubble out and the outside shower did. Cost $140 his minimum 1 hour charge. Next time I will just take an outside shower lol lol lol 😆
  22. Not sure if this would work but if you remove your mail box in front of your home the post office won’t delever your mail and will just hold it for a period of time before returning it to sender.
  23. If you want to be away from crowds of people but near a hospital you may have a problem because most hospitals are near population centers. Quartzsite does get crowded in the month of Jan but if you get 10 miles north or south there are few crowds and other months are not crowded. Yuma also gets crowded Jan, Feb, March but not too bad and again if you get to to edges of town there are no crowds. The Escapees Co-Op in Benson, Saguaro, is very nice and in my opinion one of the best Co-Ops in the system. I have stayed there many times. Benson is about 45 minutes south of Tucson and no crowds. The Escapees Park in AL, Rainbow Plantation, is my second favorite park. I will be there at the end of Oct for a week. The Escapees park in Deming, Dreamcatcher, is at a low elevation and does not get as cold as those areas at higher elevation. You won’t see any problems with the border because you are 30 miles north.
  24. I agree with the Yuma, Quartzsite AZ area but you may also look at the Escapees RV Park in Demming NM, Dreamcatcher RV Park. It’s just off I-10, not crowded. Has full hookup for about $22 a night. All pull thrus. They also have a monthly rate. There is a clubhouse but not much activities. An occasional potluck and ice cream socials etc. Silver City NM is nearby to the north. Columbus NM is about a 30 minute drive to the south and is right on the border of MEX. There is also a State Park in Columbus. Also the Escapees Co-Op in Benson AZ just south of Tucson is a great place. There are also Escapees parks in Casa Grande, Congress and Yuma too. Yuma does get a little hot near April but so does Quartzite.
