  1. Hey Derek, You still surviving in the Louisiana outback? Noticed your Roadie site seems to be down so Just wanted to let you know that my website is still Myrving.com. We have left the world of the full timers for health reasons and now live in St Augustine (kinda like louisiana, we have gators , too). Hope you are well and happy. We certainly are.
  2. A word of caution: Not all roof AC units have the necessary interface to work with typical home thermostats. I have used several RiteTemp units successfully for years but when I got the new Atwood Air Command 15.5k Heat pump/ AC unit I found that the thermostat is a proprietary design that has a digital interface to the AC. As such, a Nest nor any other home Thermostat will work with that unit. Having said that, however, I will add that this is by far the quietest RV AC unit I have ever seen. Even at full blower speed and full cooling/heating we can talk standing under it and can watch tv without having to turn the volume up to the max. So, This alone, made it a no brainer for me to choose to give up the convenience of a Nest or other WIFI capable smart thermostat. This thermostat does come with its own wireless (IR) remote control, though). Just as a clue, this is what the actual thermostat unit for this AC looks like: https://www.bing.com/th?id=OIP.CTDdf0ErI8OpUaLvPaTlOgHaFj&w=191&h=160&c=8&rs=1&qlt=90&dpr=2.25&pid=3.1&rm=2
  3. If you are on Windows 10, then use the Windows Defender. It is the best on that platform. I cannot speak to Linux platforms though I do use a few of them a little bit like Mint and OpenSUSE but not too seriously. My experience with Kaspersky is that it turned into a CPU hog and I still have had problems with Nortons interfering with product installations on occasions. Just my experiences. FWIW.
  4. I used Red Maxx Pro a number of years ago on my fiberglass end caps. it has held up surprisingly well. It is the same thing as ZEP and comes off easily with their floor stripper, np. Makes it easy to correct mistakes or redo's. here is my writeup on my success: http://rvhousekeeping.blogspot.com/2011/06/making-outside-shine.html#links Good luck.

  6. I have used 3m Filtrete Radio Thermostats ever since they first came out. The units I have say "connect to 24v supply" but they also have battery back up ( which won't run the wifi module). In talking with their tech I found that the 24v compatibility is the norm but their units will work fine on as little as 8 volts. I just ran a 12v line from a nearby RV source and connected it to the thermostat and it has worked fine for year. Might be worth a call to nest tech support to ask the usable voltage range that they will work on. Yes, I would like a nest system in my RV but what I have lets me check on temps when I am away from it (for our dog's sake). We just returned home after 10 days at our kids for the Christmas/New years events and the whole time I was able to check and control it from 500 miles away.
  7. How is tower CG for HDTs compared to Jellystone or KOA in Sioux Falls?
  8. That was us. Did get to chat briefly with the Lady of your house as we were pulling out. We are from Evergreen SKP park in Chimacum, Wa and headed to St Augustine, FL after an early Thanksgiving visit with our kids in NC on the way down. Maybe cross paths again somewhere but not likely to be anywhere near Kansas in the winter months, for sure.
  9. In Evergreen SKP park, they have a monthly Adult coloring session. Personally, I am too type A and it increases my stress trying to stay in the lines, use exactly the right colors and shading.....
  10. Back in Evergreen COHO SKP Park in Chimacum, WA for the summer. 2016.
  11. We are back volunteering in the Carrie Blake City park in Sequim, WA for the winter. Nice gig. great place to winter, for us.
  12. Back in Sequim, washington as winter volunteer docents at the Carrie Blake city park. Should be here til May 2016. There is no bad time of year to visit this place.
  13. Hi Guys. We are coasting in the SKP Evergreen Park in Chimacum, wa for a couple-3 months before heading to Glacier NP in Sept. Not clear on where after that. We have spent the past 7 months in Sequim hosting at the city park. That might be a repeat this coming winter, too. Yeah. I look at the weather across the whole country and it looks like a disaster movie playing out. So far, this area has been the only place not plagued with weather extremes and risks. At some point we are touristing in Victoria on a day trip or two. Just don't know when. Got a fur kid we can't leave too long. Clearly, we have no plan, just like spending over 3 months in Redding 2014. We had not originally planned to even make a stop there at Christmas 2013. Hope the rally was all that was expected for the attendees. Maybe next time we can be more in the area.
  14. In Evergreen SOHO in Chimacum, WA until July 31. After that... I have absolutely no idea.
  15. Merrily and I are still in Sequim, Wa Volunteering at the City Parks. Should be here until June.... then we don't really know what we are going to do, next. Nice weather all winter. About 6 nights below 32f all winter. A few drops of rain (like now) but less than 2" all winter and temps have been mostly between 45 and 65. I call it paradise but your opinion may vary.
  16. Finally settled into Elwha Dam RV Park in Port Angeles, WA. Nice park, well kept, out in the woods with FHU wifi. Only drawback is the hills one must climb to do anything outdoors. Fully surrounded by evergreen forestsl. Should be here for the next 3-6 months.
  17. In Lincoln City, OR there is a white HDT with a distinctive checkered swoosh and stripes in the Premier RV Resorts Park. We left there apparently just before they pulled in. I have seen the picture of it somewhere but could not find it in the HHRV gallery so I think it must have been repainted if it was there, before. The SD tag says "Toy Pulr" https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B14E0bzPMGZsdkMxM3REaUp2M3M/edit?usp=sharing We are now in Winter Quarters in the Elwha Dam RV park in Port Angeles, WA. We were attempting to get into Gilgal Oasis Park in Sequim, but they are too picky (requires newer than 10 years old) and the spaces and roads are too narrow for us.
  18. it is for exactly this reason that I have 3 GPS apps on my phone and tablet and preplan routes based on how well they agree with each other. For instance, it had me coming up US101 through FLorence, OR but routed me 23 miles east of the bay instead of just going across the bridge over the river. The other two said "just use the bridge, dummy". The 3rd one (copilot Truck) would not use the bridge even when I put a waypoint right at the onramp. I never did figure out what that was all about but a later update fixed the problem.
  19. Trey, we just drove through Barview Jetty county park yesterday and they are pretty nice sites. Best place we saw between Lincoln City and Nehalem Bay. There were a few sites in Tillamook Bay City RV park in Tillamook that would work but no one was around to talk to about specific dates. It looked like we might fit into a spot or two in the Nehalem Bay Trailer park. They were not too level but could be used. It is at the corner of the turnoff to Nahalem Bay State park. The state park, though huge, was slammed full and is useless to an HDTer, though quite nice looking. Just too few spots that were deep enough with reasonable back-in access. We also checked out the Thousand Trails / Encore park at Pacific City. it is huge but pretty impossible for HDTers (or anything longer than about 40' overall). The sites are all rear blocked and scattered all over the steep hillsides. Most have very difficult access angles, too. If it was pretty empty one might find a spot (for $67/night) but it would take a lot of looking. Depending on Dates there might be a spot or two at Shorewood RV Park but HDT would likely have to go into storage to park. Again, pricey and a little tight but nicer park. We decided to just go on up nearer Astoria or maybe into Long Beach, WA for our next stop. There is not much to see before that except a few places where 101 is actually along the coast (which was mostly fogged in all day). We are thinking maybe Andersen's on the beach in Long Beach might work but have not checked, yet. Apparently, mid-July thru Mid-Sept is the high season along coastal Oregon to Washington. Good luck with your planning.
  20. We are still in Premier RV Resorts in Lincoln City, OR so not close at the moment. Trying to stay until 8/20 but so far they can only spot us til 8/11. Devil's Lake RV park has sites better suited to HDTs (longer pull thrus) but this is a nice park. Still not sure what is next. We were going to McMinnville to see the Evergreen museum, Portland Zoo and Audubon Preserve but just can't get any weekend spots. Olde Stone Village was our first choice and there is another park about 7 miles east of Olde Stone Village that seems like it might work... if they have something open up. It's a bit tighter than OSV, though.
  21. Still in the 60s and 70s in Redding but finally getting a little rain for a few days... maybe a tenth or so predicted. Temps will dip into the 50s then probably get back into the 70s. The has been the weather that everyone has been looking for all winter and here we just fell into it after Christmas. It wasn't even supposed to be an overnight stop. Oh well, I guess we can still put up with it. We should be leaving about April 6th to head to Arcata and points north up US 101 into Oregon. I am sure the day/night temps will be closer together but a bit cooler overall. However, I am told the scenery will more than compensate for that "hardship".
  22. Moved to South Lake Tahoe for Christmas. Much nicer than Fallon, NV.... duh!
  23. Hmmm. It's not listed on the "Things to Do" section of the campground brochure. Must be gone. Still haven't gone to see the big pile of sand, either. We have both been feeling a little ill since we got here. Maybe dehydration, maybe food, maybe, maybe but doing better now, Merrily took off for her first day at Amazon. Having a job again after nearly 3 years seems to have really perked her up. We'll see how she is doing when she gets home, tonight.
  24. Settled into the Fallon RV Park in Fallon, NV til Christmas. Yep, you guessed it, working at Amazon in Fernley, NV til then. OK park, especially for this part of the country. Non metered have trees, concrete paved pull thrus and streets. Metered are in the graveled area in the back of the park. This is good, since US Highway 50 is right in front of the CG. Other than the dust of Nevada, it is good. Huge off leash doggie park but mostly dust, too. Coming through here, give a shout.
  25. Elko, NV at the Iron Horse RV Resort. Pretty nice place for desert diggs. Moving on to Fallon, NV, today. Merrily has a job with Amazon Fernley, NV starting in a few days so we should be staying at the Fallon RV Park til Christmas or until we find a place we like better that is closer to Amazon. Long drive today to get there (by our standards). No steel Butt-ers here. 290 miles is a long day for us but when in boring country, what can one do? This traveling east to west and crossing time zones has me going nuts keeping all the clocks, thermostats and other electronics set to the right time. Only the phones keep it right.
