  1. Years ago, I believe 1986, we were camping miles back a gravel road in the national forest, in an old ghost town, near Leadville, CO. Sitting around the campfire, one guy told of a friend who would wander around and knock on camper doors, telling folks he was collecting the $10/night camping fee. Until he was met at one door by a pistol wielding guy who knew there was no fee. Scum bags aren't a new issue.
  2. I echo the above sentiments. Thanks to all who served.

    Cool Truck

Just to be clear, this conversation comes at a time when I'm having the same discussion with #1 grandson. He bought a 2007 1 owner F-250 C/C Lariat that's had all the right mods to make it reliable, but more power and noise. Very nice truck. But he's put a set of tires that don't clear the front wheel wells, and took off the muffler. He claims he's not blowing smoke, but at 17 y/o, ya know he is....... BTW, I'm the bank, not his dad, and he's paying interest. I'm afraid he'll turn out like his immature grandpa.😜

Those of us old enough to remember "smog", and how it felt having to breathe it, may not see "rolling coal" as socially acceptable. Make no mistake, I spent many years hot rodding, racing, and being a nuisance to my elders. For the most part, I've out grown that, and strive to leave this planet a better place for my grandkids. Rant over.......
  5. I bet there's a collar, but you can't see it from the dirt and crud. That said, if you have enough slack, just cut the line at the fitting. This will give you a fresh surface for the o-ring to seal against.
  6. Just be aware that going south doesn't assure you of warm weather. We stayed just off I-10 in western Louisiana for 4 days a couple years ago because the highway was closed due to ice. We had 17*f two mornings, and below freezing for two more. As stated above watch the more reliable weather folks, and by that, I mean the ones who don't depend on advertising to support them.
  7. So true. Consider the news persons' primary goal.. It's not to keep us informed, but to secure advertising dollars. Hype sells. Anything to get folks talking, buying newspapers, watching tv, etc. It's the same with weather forecasters. It's in their best interest to be dramatic, rather than accurate.

Ash tray? Isn't that where you put gum wrappers and other trash before we had cup holders? My navigator like to put garbage in all the little recesses in my vehicles.☚ī¸
  10. Glad it's working for you Jeff. After smoking 6 brand new tires, I couldn't trust it. I've since moved on to the BluDot and love it.

That would make a really cool hauler, but grandma would likely not be fond of the climb into the cab. Well, neither would grandpa. I find the lack of gauges and switches odd. The dash looked empty.
  12. It's a good thing I didn't have a mouth full of coffee............
  13. Duh. The inner dome sticks up above the roof a couple inches. Who-da thunk? Obviously, not this amateur. Found some replacements on ebay for $43. So, the coach is in the way for a few more days.
  14. No rot. We caught it early.
  15. I'm a little late to the party, but here goes: We replaced the dome over our shower a year ago. The screws were overtightened from the factory (in '08), and nearly every screw had a small crack radiating from it. Except the one which had a BIG crack. Plus, installers ran a bead of caulk all the way around the perimeter, effectively creating a moat, so when it rained, all the water came through the crack. We carefully put the new dome in place and only sealed the screw heads and put a thin bead under the flange. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago. Returning from the HDT National, we had rain, and found drips on the kitchen table. Smae thing, cracks radiating from mounting screws. We have two skylights in the kitchen area, and the local rv stealer quoted me $105 each for new domes. A quick call to the hardware store later, I had 2 new flat replacements, 1/4" thick Lexan. for $72 total. It should outlast the coach.
  16. Not to beat a dead horse, but I will anyway.... I've found if you build a relationship with a parts guy, he'll treat you right. In my case, the local Mack dealer, a little family run outfit, beats all the other dealers and most online sellers. The service is great, and I no longer bother pricing around. And he knows I trust him, which helps keep that relationship strong.
  17. I think it was Samuel Clemens who said: "if you like your job, you'll never work a day in your life." I got lucky, and worked until I decided the stress was over riding the fun.
  18. Went to my favorite meat market/butcher this morning. We started talking about ham salad, and how some shops make it. Two of the guys behind the counter said where they'd previously worked, they save the ends of lunch meat and cheese all week, then ground it up, added dressing, relish, and sweetener/coloring, and sold it as "ham salad". My ham salad has ham, real mayo, and relish, period. No bologna.
  19. But, so is "play". As one who "played" in the "dirt" (4 letters) for 50 years, work is a state of mind.
  20. We just returned from a 30 day/4500 mile trip. Avg. fuel consumption of the rig in my sig is about 7.2 mpg. We put in about 150 gal. when we fill, after 3 days travel. This leave me plenty of reserve and time, to find cheaper fills. So, for 30 days, we spent about $1800 on fuel and $1000 on campgrounds. Roughly the same as motels alone, considering we spent much of our time in "destination" areas. Travel isn't a cheap game. But with a little planning, it's not so bad.
  21. Hmmmm, depends on the quality. The good stuff has real chunks of meat, not all homogenized w/ cereal to hold it together. Slice it 1/2" (12.7mm) thick and toss it on a griddle. When browned on both sides, put it on a toasted bun w/ a little mustard and a slice of sweet onion. This place is famous for it: http://gandrtavern.com/

    Lights, or not

Made it home from the National HDT gathering this evening, thanks to David Dixon. I told myself I wouldn't drive after dark, but sometimes life gets in the way, and we bend the rules. Besides, those grandkids have a pull on Grandma that would make a Black Hole envious..... Anywhooo, I was following a long nose Pete down I-74 at about 52 mph, wondering why he was poke'n along, when I noticed that in front of our truck was a nice patch of lit pavement, while in front of Mr. Pete, it looked like a couple of choir boys was walk'n up the aisle with candles flickering. Why in the world would somebody spend heaps of $$$ on chicken lights and chrome, and not put some decent headlights in the mix? Do I have my priorities screwed up? So, I went around said Pete and rumbled on home. Got the camper in the shop, plugged in, patted the shop cat on the head, and hopped my lgt and headed to the house. Thank you Mr. Dixon, and Deep Space Lights.
  23. Just want to give a shout to all the great people who attended the rally. We met lots of old friends, and made a bunch of new ones too. The depth and diversity of knowledge is amazing, and the willingness to share is beyond belief. It was a great 10 days. A big thanks to the Gail and Steve, and all the presenters.
  24. When we get back from the HDT rally, I'm gonna volunteer to haul for the boys renting our place. Who knows what trannies I'll get to stir.
  25. Not to mention the suspension compression factor if Round Boy is in the saddle. Susan drives ours on/off.🤔
