I just got a JTV-680 (like the Comet CHA250B) antenna set up to work on my 5er. I used 1-1/4" EMT and mounted it off the rear ladder. Using a 1-1/4" exterior union or connector, I add 5 ' above the roof line and mount the antenna on top of this. The base of the antenna is roughly 18' above the ground.
I am running a Kenwoo TS480HX with an LDG AT200 Pro tuner. The Comet has mixed reviews ranging from sorry antenna to not so bad. I found that while tha antenna is not as good as a good dipole, it does work reasonably well. It is easy to store and asembly and can bu up in about 10 to 15 minutes.
While it is not the antenna of choice, it does work reasonably well for a compromise antenna.
