Well, it's happened once again. The forum was unreachable for nearly 12 hours overnight. It didn't come up again until a little after 8 this morning, Texas time, which is likely when the staff arrived for the day and the server was rebooted. I would like to suggest once again that it may be time to move the servers to a monitored, full service data center where they could be rebooted easily, and where network issues would be minimized. I know there has been resistance to this by the IT staff at headquarters, but I don't think everyone realizes how much many of us come to rely on this service. When it is out, we suffer withdrawals.

It's not just the social network aspect of the forum that's important. It also is a very real tool that many of us use to troubleshoot problems and seek help when things go wrong, and it's a most valuable tool when researching many aspects of the RV lifestyle. Often those troubleshooting and researching situations are time dependent. When the forum is not available, finding answers is a lot tougher.

I realize that this is not a life and death issue, and that the IT staff does a very good job when they are there, but it sure is frustrating. Morning coffee without the Escapees Forum is just not very enjoyable.

I also tried, but was unable to log on.

I expect that there are services that will periodically logon with a test ID and devices that will trigger a reboot when the test logon fails. Depending on why the system failed last night (and other times), this may be a viable alternative to outsourcing.

I came in this morning before it was even considered bright and found the forum to be down. We had a real bad lightning storm roll through last night/early morning and our building here must be full of negative ions because every lightning storm we have we manage to lose at least one piece of equipment. Fortunately for us, the server was just locked up in a state of stupid as opposed to being a case of smoldering silicon and copper. One reboot later and voila, epic forum is epic again.

It has been horrible since the last upgrade. I've remarked about it several times, but nothing seems to get better. If I didn't enjoy my participation here so much, I would have stopped using it. I'm still convinced that something is wrong, but I'm not in a position to know what that is. I do use a satellite connection but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I do know that this forum is an order of magnitude slower since the upgrade than any other web site I use.

Here, I thought it was my computer acting up. I can see as I respond to this topic that things are moving a "tad" slow.

I agree with Rif. This forum is by far the slowest one I frequent.

Painfully slow!

I open a new browser window and open the forums I read in new tabs, go do something else. Come back open the topics I want to see from a few forums in new tabs, go back to what I was doing. Come back and read and possibly reply to the topics. Go back to whatever, come back and see if my replies posted and fix the failures. Open the next set of topics in new tabs...

I'm only visiting a couple times a day at this point, skipping a lot of posts I would have looked at when things were better and not replying to near as many. Sorry, but it is too slow and too frustrating.

Pirate 4x4 has been taking WAY too many F5, reloads, and back re-clicks to be much more than painful lately. But it's like here, when it loads, pure gold.

Yep. Since last night. I hope they tell us what it was, and I hope they have a plan for addressing these outages. It seems a network problem might have been the cause of this one. I did a trace route that ended by bouncing back and forth between two points. The escapees.com site was also down with the same issue, so it probably wasn't server related since they're on different servers.

IRV2 is more interested in slapping folks down than the exchange of info and they do tend to single out specific folks more than others. If it is info that the IRV2 group objects to (like alternative homemade RVs) then you had better not be a proponent of the topic. I finally got tired of it and left because certain others could insult me, call me names and I couldn't reply at all. Moderators are worthless and biased. Kinda like being back in high school.

I heard (unofficially) it was a copper thief, stole a hunk of the cable that hooked the SKP servers to the rest of the world.

Your experience is EXACTLY the same as mine. A totally worthless and poorly run forum, IMO.

The Owners Forums on iRV2 are the only good thing about it - especially for those of us with orphan coaches.
