Drove the bus to Roswell, NM! We have finally changed locations. You remember that picture I posted on Dec 5th? We STILL had some of that snow on the roof when we got to Roswell this morning!

We didn't add insulation! All we did was coat the roof with Henry's Solar-Flex elastometric roof coating. The Blue Bird company put some good stuff in the walls and roof. After owning an Eagle and then this Blue Bird, we think the Blue Bird is built much better. But I do miss those huge bays!

Today... I pulled my 2 ft Christmas tree out of it's deteriorating box for the first time since we came out here and set it up. It's twinkling away on top of the engine cover. I tossed the box.

finally decided to start my switch to Lithium storage Cells.
this is a link to the discussion about the batteries
there have a higher voltage per cell. so 4 cells are the same 12 bolts. the are a couple of big differences. they are smaller and they cost about $350.00 per cell or 1600 for 12volts.
why do this
I am crazy LOL No
These batteries have over 5000 cycles so the price works out
I am converting to electric and the final battery bank will be 450 Volts. The Genset for now is a converted 5KW generator to alternator. Have built a 10KW inverter to drive the House n AC.
once I get the hardware to mount the 100kw Alternator onn the back of the Engine. will mount the Electric Drive to the Power train.

upgrading the bus running lights for LED. this includes the headlights.
I have the single unit High/low beam.
putting in CanBus box to control the LEDs to replace the high/low beam.
it work on Pulse width modulation.
this way power is routed directly to headlights and a control signal is used to change light on/off and brightness.

Well we pulled into a friends place 12-31-11 to do some work on Liberty. And work we have raised the suspension as much as we had adjustment to do so, then we remover the radiator to put on a new fan bearing assmbly, put Jakes brakes on the left bank. ( the r. side will req. more parts and time), That was the end of week one. Then we started trying trying to find radiator gaskets. as we found out when removing the radiator the mounting bolts were too long and touched the tubes. After 2 attempts to repair the thing our friend has loaned us a radiator from one of his Eagles till we can get something else for ours. Then Anne and I went to eat Mex. food. Last night w took our friends out for an allyou can eat buffet at a casino in Laughlin. After church tommorrow we are headed down to Quartzsite to a combined bus rally and to catch up with several friends who are out in the desert.

We are currently in Vancouver, WA to do an engine and transmission swap. Hope to be installing power steering once we've determined the other work is problem free. You can read more on our travel blog and see more photos here. http://s363.photobuc...mview=slideshow

Our Allison 740 all checked out and ready to be fitted.

Just finished a mini-project in my van conversion transformation. Over the last two weeks I created and installed a 'hidden' extension shelf under my bed. All cherry hardwood and some cherry ply.

Look here to see the details.

After finishing the pull-out shelf under the bed, Iíve been quite busy working on the rear doors. I already removed the fabric covered panels and decided to replace them with built-in cabinetry. There is only 3″-4″ depth available, but every little bit of storage counts in a van.

As you can see, the cabinet itself is almost finished.

Iím working on the driverís side rear door, but the other rear door needs one too. To finalize it, I need to create two new fabric covered panels. I havenít yet decided on the updated fabrics, however they have to be ordered a.s.a.p.

Yesterday I put on the new longer 50A shore cord I had purchased while in Q this January. The old one had been plugged in when the prev. owner pulled it out of the bus barn. this caused it to stretch and look a bit like a cork screw. It also lacked about 10' of getting to the power posts tat are located at the rear of the site. I put a new hatch in the floor of that compartment so the male end would fit the opening. It has a molded on plug with a handle. The old one was a large round plug that dropped through a 3" PVS sleeve and had a cap with a hole the cord was threaded thru to restrict critter traffic.

Well when I was all done and plugged it in we had no shore power. the transfer switch did not pull in . I started the generator and it worked fine. I then checked continuaty on the new cord and that was fine. So to get us thru the night I plugged into our neighbors outside outlet (with permission) and put the battery charger on the house batttery to keep it going all night as I had been runnnning on battery for several hours.

I called an RV service to come see the problem and fix it. They said late tommorrow. I said OK.

So this AM being all rested I thought do I have power coming to the bus? I put a meter on the wires and NO I did not. I walked to the office and asked where the breaked box is. I was told and upon looking inside the Oleander shrubbs for Rattlers I opened the panel and YES our site was popped. Simple fix, several hundred dollars saved over a new transfer switch.

TO quote Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith of "A" Team fame, "I love it when a plan comes together".

All's well that comes out in the end.

Getting ready to do some road work. I adjusted to brakes on the Eagle today. I have had it done but this was my first time. It was not easy on me. The tag and front axles were easy but the driveaxle may have been part of a shops profit. I must have turned to adjuster 6 or so full turns. They are harder to get to so easy for a mechanic to skip. Sure hope this takes care of the rumble strip noise when the brakes are first applied. Oh yea I also drained the air tanks. Washed the bugs off the Windshield then washed the outside of the side windows.

De-winterized the bus, installed the batteries (in the garage on a maintainer for the winter) & ran up the generator...may drive it to work as a shakedown this week.

Five weeks to the road trip!

I replaced the radiator in having done it 3 times at Cliffords place I knew what to do. Will replace the fluid tommorrow and check for leaks. Now to get Sonja's radiator back to her so Clifford can get her bus back on the road. thanks to Eric, Wayne and Clifford for getting this done.
