Hello All,
I have just installed the basic receiver package of DirecTV (single LNB) in my fifth wheel. The installation was carried out in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and I have the satellite dish sitting on a tripod outside the rig. My "address" is the typical Livingston address of which I may stay at two days in any given year. The question I have is: My weather channel and locals are set up for Oshkosh, Wisconsin. How can I get the weather and local channels when I move to different parts of the country? I called DirecTV and I was told they can not change the installation address on my system. I infomed the DirecTV customer service that I purchased the package to be installed in my RV, and that I would be moving every two weeks. I'm happy with what I have and I won't make too much out of the issue that the sales person was not very honest with my moving requirements. Is there some magical Escapees 'work around' for the problem I have created? I appreciate any fixes someone may have. Email wraygeo@att.net Peter SKP 89296 |

Email wraygeo@att.net Peter SKP 89296 RVers are allowed to sign up for the Distant Network Services (DNS) so that you can receive the National Network programming from NY and LA (not your local stations, but NY and LA will follow you around the US). If you want local you will need to crank up your roof mounted Winegard Batwing antenna and hope that a signal is available. You can call DirecTV every time you move to a new location and change your service address (OK if you only move 2-4 times per year) but this is not really very practical for most of us. You need to fill-out a DNS waiver form and FAX it into DirecTV along with a copy of your vehicle registration to prove you actually own an RV. This service costs $14/month (last time I checked) and you will get ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX from NY, NY and LA, CA. If you were told you could do anything different you were lied to. Once you get used to it, you will really like the DNS services for the multiple time zone options. -------------------- |

Thanks Bill,
Being lied to. Whats new! I'll just soldier on with how I have it. The batwing will have to suffice. Thanks again. Peter |

For the weather close to where you are. On the DirecTV remote push the "Active" button.
Wait a while for it to load up. Click Weather...move to "My Cities" And then put in zip for any location you are at. -------------------- 99 Discovery 34Q DP | ISB Banks PowerPack

I've not changed my LOCALS so don't know for certain but I've read that you can change your SERVICE address to get the local channels via the internet. Perhaps someone that has actually accomplished this will post.
We have the DNS channels and have been very happy with them. Good luck to you. HamRad -------------------- Montana 3295RK pulled with a 2002 Ford SD F450, CC, long bed, auto.

HamRad I have not been able to find an option that would allow this. I have been able to change my billing address but the last time I changed my service address (to ensure the local OR Ducks would not be blacked out) I had to make a phone call. If anyone finds a way to change a service address on-line, please post it here! -------------------- |

Thanx to all for the questions and answers. Peter, I also had a Dir TV guy that told me no problem. First time I moved far away was last month and could not pick up my hometown local stations even after 1.5 hr on phone with Dir TV. Mentioned several times I was a mobile account, but they never mentioned that might be the problem; somebody on this forum told me the next day. I called Dir TV next day and told them I had moved they reset my signal and have had great TV until a few days ago when we moved again. This time when I called they said they could not change it, FCC rules prevented it, etc. When I asked where my address was they told me it was in IL where we had changed the signal to, not FL which is our permanent address. At that point I gave up in disgust!
Was going to post question here as I think I understood, at last, what was going on. Bill confirmed that. My sales guy never took vehicle registration or the form required even though I asked him specifically about it - "not to worry" he said! I will download the form again (I had it before I called the sales guy) and send it and registration off shortly. Also, thanx to Biker for the weather procedure. I have made note of that. Ask to talk to a supervisor if the CSR tells you it can't be done.

If you do a search you will find that this has been discussed several times.
The DirectTV forums under the Resources/Links up at the top of the page - or click here. Fill it out, then fax to: 208-363-6444. DTV fax number for Distant Networks RV Waiver. This will get you New York and LA ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox stations. There is a charge, I don't remember right now how much but around $11/month. If you want PBS or CW then you have to pay even more. To get more information about the Mobile Network Services call 800-567-6789. And it will probably take asking for a supervisor 2 or 3 times to get the correct information. Whenever I want the locals, all I do is change the zip code to the area I'm in, call direct & give them
a physical address of where I'm at, & they switch it for me free. Sometimes it takes a couple of days to work, but eventually it always does. Changing the zip code can take a few times to find the right page but if you go to the normal setup to find the signal strength, continue to dish pointing, select ok then enter the new zip code. DirecTV has no idea what zip code you put in the receiver. Nor can they find out.
Any of the receiver information is only one way. No way for it to send DTV any kind of a signal or zip code information. |

There was a time when that could be done but no longer. When at our winter residence, where ever that might be, we call directtv and they will change our service address to the local channels. The billing address remains the same. You entering the zip code has nothing to do with it other than giving you the Az and elevation for dish pointing where ever you are.
