They are common in Australia as Off Road Motorhomes.

We saw this German built off road RV in Dinosaur National Monument, ID about 2 months ago... they said it could go anywhere a Jeep could as long as there was vertical and side-to-side clearance.

That would be correct. If you have seen the racing Trucks used in the Paris Dakar event, you will notice these things are very good off road
