As a lot of people now know, Mail Call USA has closed it doors and shafted a lot of people. Since I was a client and live here in Cleveland where they operated, I have some information that may be useful. The USPS has a waiting period due to regulations and then they are going to take over the site. All the mail that is in the building they occupied and the mail that's at the post office that hadn't been picked up will be forwarded to you IF you have a A Change of Address card (COA) on file with them. The way to do this is find out when the USPS takes control of the business and then fill out the COA card or do it on line at usps.com. You can call 1-800-275-8777 also. I think the best way is to call the Cleveland, TN post office. I was told to call every couple of days and they would let me know when they had taken over and I could file the COA then. The Postmaster's name at Cleveland is Justin Taylor, a very nice guy that wants to help, and the lady that answers the phone most of the time is Jan, also a very nice and helpful person. I was last at the post office on Friday and will call this Wednesday to check the status. The USPS is being very helpful, but there are regulations they have to follow. If anyone has any questions you can PM me. The Cleveland Post Office phone number is 423-614-5280. Sorry that I left this off earlier.

Bob,

Very informative post as I did a Google search on them and their website has nothing to indicate that they are closing.

This is an example of why I am skeptical of the small mail forwarding operations run out of peoples houses, etc. You just never know if they will close, or if the priciples have health problems then the whole thing is a mess.

That is why I like the Escapees mail operation. Professionally run, with an organization behind it. ANd reasonably priced. JMO.

Their website is actually here.

How did you hear they were shutting down? It's not on their Twitter (...the frack is twitter?) and it's not on their website.

Vols, can ya let us know when they get taken over? I apparently have to find another mail forwarding company...

I had Mail Call USA listed on my web pages about mail forwarding services. In less than two weeks back in November I had two individuals contact me for help with these folks. They had paid and no one was answering the phone and email was bouncing. Looks like this has been brewing for a while.

It has been brewing for a couple of months. When the original owner ran it the service was good. He died about 2yrs ago and his dead beat son took it over. It has gone down hill ever since. The latest was them going to "Q" and soliciting new business and I don't believe they have been to the office since they got back.

As soon as I find out when the USPS has taken over the operations I will post it here. In the mean time I have listed the Cleveland post office number which I left off the original post.

I talked with the Postmaster this morning, Mail Call USA is now responding (slowly) to the demands of the Postal Inspectors, to get the current mail forwarded. As for future mail, he said we need to go directly to whomever is mailing to us, and have them change the address to whatever new address we select. Current regulations prohibit the USPS from forwarding mail addressed to the Mail Call USA office. (We tried on line to process a change of address, and it was rejected because Mail Call USA is a commercial mail forwarding company.)

This is what the USPS regulations regarding CMRA's state, and why I was surprised at Vols Fan statement that the Cleveland PO was allowing Mail Call USA's clients to file a change of address with the post office.

I can see where the post office would take care of mail already sitting at Mail Call USA's office, but for future mail, if I were a client, I'd be in the process of sending out change of address letters/forms to all of my correspondents and not relying on the post office forwarding mail.

In was just stating what the postmaster told me. After talking to him again yesterday, it seems that he was wrong in his original statement. You can not do a COA. At the present time everything is still up in the air but there is a new owner and the name has changed to The Mail Box. postmaster says that they have not filled out all the paper work yet. The new owner is Daron George, phone # 317-702-2926. Good luck trying to reach him. You will get his voice mail.

Because we owned a house near Cleveland in Marion County (the other side of Chattanooga). We found it convenient to keep a TN mailing address since, at that time, we planned on moving elsewhere in TN. A few years later, things have changed. We left that area last summer and do not plan on ever moving back. But we also haven't decided where we will stay. As things stand now, we most likely will get the Escapees mail forwarding addy and become TX residents. But things change, at least for us.

BTW, please stop yelling (all caps)!

Because one size does not fit all. Different people have different needs.

Because moving to Texas is not an option for everyone, they have some laws on the books that make it a very bad idea for some folks. The common-law marriage rules there could cost unmarried folks living together a big chunk of their pensions as an example.

I get such a giggle out of people who shop on the single issue of taxes. That is so American, "penny wise and pound foolish" is an expression that fits our culture so well...

What AC7880 said and because we live about 5mi from the former Mail Call USA. When our house sells we will then use another service.

Not to stray too far off topic, but although Texas is one of just a few states that recognize common law marriage, the elements of a common law marriage are:

1. an agreement to be married,
2. cohabitation after the agreement, and
3. representing yourselves to others as being married.

Contrary to popular belief, there's no period of time after which a man and woman living together automatically become common law married.

Lucky Bob... he can go bang on Mail Call's door to get his mail. I wish this had happened while we were still in NC. At least I could have drove over to Cleveland to find out what is going on (voice mail gets no results).

Then the lawyer we consulted was wrong and we could have used Texas, oh well maybe next time.
