I can choose between hspa and evdo for my usb modem from my supplier, Bell Mobity.
From their web site: The upload and download speeds seems similar I will be using it in Canada only and with either one I should get good coverage on 95% MY travelling here. I'm wondering if there are reason to choose one over the other? |

I dont spend a lot of time in Canada these days, but as I understand it, Bell Mobility just recently added HSPA to its existing EVDO network.
Down here, HSPA is limited to ATT and they are significantly behind Verizon in overall 3G coverage. In theory, HSPA has some technical advantages that should result in faster speeds, but again down here the ATT 3G network is not providing those higher speeds with any consistency. Outside north america, HSPA is definitely the dominant & better technology. But I'm not sure if Canada Bell has implemented it better than ATT. If you were going to travel back & forth, Can - USA, I'd go with EVDO. But if you're going to stay in Can, I'd lean toward HSPA. Since its newly implemented, there may be some initial issues, but it should out perform EVDO in the long term. At least until they all move to LTE -------------------- |

It depends on who has the best coverage . HSPA does have higher potential for speed . Check the coverage maps for the areas you frequent . You should make your decision on that.

i agree with gord that coverage is the first thing you should confirm. be *sure* you'll have it where you need it.
the other thing i'd suggest you do is find some folks who are using the service and get a feel for actual speeds, not theoretical. theoretically, HSPA should outperform EVDO -- but here in the united states, that is rarely the case. -------------------- formerly known as EVDOalex -- no longer associated with 3G store

Any reason why HSPA would not work with a Cradlepoint?
As for using it in the US, it cost over a 100$ a month for 5 gigs in Canada, I don't want to find out what it would cost roaming down south. I will keep using wifi when I find it This post has been edited by Lynn Foley: Nov 7 2009, 08:49 PM |
