Our trucker's atlas doesn't have it marked as a truck route, even through UT 59 (which turns into AZ 389) is marked as such.
We're in Hurricane, Utah going to Kanab. I can't use Utah SR-9 through Zion, because we don't fit through the tunnel. If I can't use AZ 389, we're going to have to go way north through Cedar City. Anyone been on that route recently? joe -------------------- SKP#100182

Not recently, but we used to use it from Page headed toward Vegas. 100-ish in the T-bird was no problem...
Two lane, not much shoulder, as I recall, but no real challenges. This post has been edited by AridzonaShooter: Nov 2 2009, 06:43 PM |

It is fine. The worst part is the climb out of Hurricane. Good 2 lane highway. There is a fair amount of truck traffic on it, but it doesn't slow you down. Check out Pipe Springs Nat'l Mon. You will go right past it.

OK, thanks. I wonder why the Rand McNally Motor Carrier book doesn't show it as a truck route?

Hey, Joe & (darn it, I forgot):
Anyway, hello from Key West. Say, we drove 389 SE out of Hurricane over to Fredonia on our way to visit the N. Rim of the Canyon around the late part of May, 2006 and that route to Fedonia was very do-able. Got to Fredonia and found out the N. Rim was still closed so went back to Hurricane. Can't tell ya much about it from Fedonia heading SE but others may help. So....that big King Aire won't fit through that tunnel..eh?? Boy, I thought it would! Spose your BIG dish makes it a little tight. OH...Lynette just chkd. our Motor Carriers Atlas and DO see that route IS restricted. Oh Well....if ya got there, guess ya can get out We're here in FL again since son is being deployed (AGAIN!) to Afghanistan at the end of January. We'll then head West over to Arizona and region till spring. Where ya gonna be and how long. It would be fun to get together awhile. We often hang around Benson (E. of Tucson) or Casa Grande...but we never know! We're gettin anxious to head back "out West." Gettin a little tired of this congested Eastern U.S. area. Hope to run into you somewhere. Steve & Lynette |

Thanks for all the comments about AZ 389. With 600hp steep hills are no problem.
Steve, Actually the roof spot light the highest point on the coach. In Jan we'll probably be somewhere in southern Texas along the coast. Sue -------------------- SKP#100182
