Does anyone have a small freezer in their unit? I have been looking for one that would be useful and not to heavy. Don't want to get one that won't hold anything.

I have one and would not be without it. Decent size will hold 100 pounds. Chest type. You can find them at Compact Appliances.com.

Let's me buy bulk when it's on sale and prevents a lot of extra trips to the market.

Dometic used to make one. A couple of years ago I saw one advertised as used in good condition for $100. I bought it sight unseen and we really like it. A friend of mine bought a new propane freezer for his MH for a lot more $ but I don't remember where or the brand. He found it online.

We did some research lately and just ordered a Danby DUF408WE upright freezer, 4 cubic feet of storage and Energy Star rated. It is only 120 AC. Best price was from www.ajmadison.com for $289 plus shipping. I won't be able to comment on operation until it is installed and works for a while. The only issue I am worried about is operation on the MSW inverter. For the past four years, we have operated an apartment sized supplemental refrigerator in addition to our Dometic RV model without any problem with the MSW inverter so when our Dometic broke down last week I decided to go with 120 AC units. The Danby DAR1102WE (all refrigerator, no freezer) fits in the same opening as the Dometic RM3862 and the Danby freezer fits where we had the small refrigerator. Both of the Danbys are Energy Star rated so we are hoping we can still boondock occasionally with our large battery bank, but in analysis, we spend most nights will full hookups.

5 cu ft ... upright model ... "HAIER" brand .... from LOWE'S .... for $139.00

26.5" deep x 22" wide x 34" tall .................. makes the perfect height for a television stand as well as the perfect size freezer.

I don't like the "Chest" type freezers because the item I want are always on the bottom..

This upright model is the perfect freezer for my 30 ft Prowler 5th wheel..

I have had it about five years and no problems...

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.

The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

Larry, I'll be interested in your experience with those units. Specifically, in the "measured" electric consumption on inverter, and how it does with the MSW. I would expect the cycle times to be low, but some of the energy star refigerators run almost all the time - just on a very low setting.....kinda like some of the new residential air conditioners.

You coming to the Rally?

Jack: I've a couple Kill-a-watt monitors that I will utilize to see how much consumption really is happening. As far as the rally, it looks like we'll be in Mercedes by then, working on LaVila''s outdoor kitchen casita. Sounds like she is planning on entertaining more and more often. She must be finding me less entertaining as the years roll on. cool.gif

See you down there after your "Eastern swing."

Lefty, What does the one you have operate on? I have one that works on a/c or battery but it's getting a bit long in the tooth and I'm looking for something to replace it with. Hugs, Diana

We have been using an Engel 84 quart freezer for a year now and I am quite impressed with it. It can be ran on either 12 volt or 120 volts. I have decided to just not mess with it and run it on 120 only. It only draws about 4 amps when we are on the inverter. that's less than just the inverter and shadow loads. I do keep it outside except when we are traveling

Sorry to take two months to answer this one...but, I just found it.

My freezer is just ac. I run it at it's coldest setting and just drive off when I'm ready. It will keep things frozen rock solid for 24+ hours.

After I get finished with the VA, I plan on adding a sine wave inverter and a couple of batteries to keep it up while I drive.

We have a 120VAC 4cf Avanti that we bought from Compact appliance. Works great. Keeps everything solid. We built ours in. Allow a couple inches on the sides for airspace. We kept the original vents (rear and ceiling). We have a small ref stacked (on a shelf) above the freezer. I can go 8 hours on no electric (while under way). and it still doesn't thaw. Down sides: #1 all the undercounter units are manual defrost. #2 mine will only handle 14" wide pizzas.

We too have the Avanti and love it. It fits in the storage area under the bedroom in our 5er. A tight fit but it works fine for us but we have a big basement. Buy meat on sale and repackage it and freeze it. Stays rock hard while traveling from location to location.
