But is there room, now that it is singled for a motorcycle on the back? I keep watching the truck coming up for sale, they look great, but my wife and I want to carry our bike with us.

I purchased a short version. At first we had our bike sitting on top of the bed. To damn dangerious to load and unload. I built an all steel rack behind the Volvo to hold our touring bike which I remove if we're going to stay put for awhile.
After I remove the windshield and lower the handle bars, we carry our bike beneath the fiver and have pleanty of room for turns and uneven roads. Makes loading and unloading a one person operation....

Byron:

I converted my truck from a vertical exhaust stack to a weedburner exhaust so I could tuck the DROM into the fairings. There is 16 inches extending to the rear of the fairings. The hitch head is located so that the centerline of the hitch pin is 36 inches aft of the centerline of the rear axle. This allows more weight on the rear axle and gives room for tool boxes aft of the wheels. There is 75 inches of clearance between the DROM and the center point of the hitch. If you need 52 inches of swing clearance this gives you 23 inches for a motorcycle which is not enough, without the DROM you would have 39 inches which would probably allow enough room for your bike.

So a short wheelbase with the hitch located 3 ft to the rear of the axle may allow a cycle to be carried. Not on mine as the genset is in the way.

I have a 182" wb tractor. With the hitch pin located all the way to the rear I have 45+" from the trailer swing point (I use 54" for figuring trailer swing) to the vertical cab fairings. That is enough for most bikes and ATV's. If necessary, the cab fairings could be removed, which gives you an addition 14" on a Volvo, and 16" on a T2000.

This may be a stupid question, but DW does not like or want a "big truck". I think your truck is great and would love to have one. Like Solomon, we may have to split the baby here... your 770 has the very large top fairing, is it possible to remove it so you get a lower truck like in Toterman's 42T picture?

Sorry for being so dumb about HDT but I gotta start somewhere....

John, Check my website. I cover the differences, and show pictures that may help you visualize.

You cannot remove the "fairing" on the 770/780. Cause there IS no fairing...that is the cab. Same with a 660/680. On a 610 you can remove the fairing.

On a T2000 you can remove the commercial fairing. Check my site.

This truck is an OUTSTANDING deal, IF you want a 13-speed.

If you wnat a phone conversation to quickly get through some questions, PM me and we can set it up.

The 42T was a compromise in my eyes moving up from a Ford F350. It was a very easy sell to the DW but it did not take long to figure out how nice it would be to stand up and walk around. The 42 will limit your movement inside but not all that bad. I was still able to include all the stuff to pass the rv thing. Yes it will probably go on the market after the first of the year. By then we will have the 660 to a point where my son will not need the 42 any longer. Remember, the 42T is a Super 10 not an autoshift.

Chuck with all the extras on this truck I can't believe you still have it. For someone that does not care if they have a manual, they ought to snap this truck up. The 13-speed is a great trans.

Dick, you are THE MAN! Yeah, that's the only way it can be done. Real hard sometimes to remember what gear you were in when Bennie was driving....
Duplex, Triplex, Quadroplex, 4'n4 Spicer etc are not the same, they are all in one box and you can get them back in gear w/o stopping (or doing what we said).
