I have searched our resource guide and the forum topics and have not come up with the procedure of replacing the dash brake valve (has the truck parking and trailer parking brakes, yellow and red knobs).  Mine is definitely leaking.  I think from the trailer brake valve.  Are these valves repairable or only replaceable. Has anyone took one apart to replace the o rings?  I came up with a volvo part number 85112212.  I have a 2001 volvo which I think would be a gen I  .   Which is the best way to remove the valve.  The volvo valve is kinda pricey.  Like around 250.00 , is there an aftermarket valve that is a replacement for this valve.

Jim

There are a bunch of lined behind that integrated brake assembly that carries the parking and trailer knobs. When I replaced the one on my '99 I had to replace the entire assembly because off where the leak was. Your price is about right. I suppose your could tear it apart and rebuild portions of it if it was not the panel assembly leaking....but I was on the road and it was far easier to replace the entire thing. Volvo does not sell "pieces", or at least did not at the time. But all the "pieces" are pretty standard components and you should be able to find them if you have the time and the truck is not needed.

I had to replace mine this summer. I could not find the "orings" that could replace the ones that were in the part. They are not like a regular o ring I tried many different kinds but after a day or two they would start leaking. I finally just replace the entire valve.

What is the best access to the valve, is there access from the top or do I need to remove part or all of the dash in front of the valve?

You can access from the top and front. Mine has a small triangular cover on top and then after you remove the red and yellow caps from the valve you can remove that access cover..

Jim, I looked for my old thread when I did mine - I guess stuff just drops off after 1 year of no comments.

I thought I started at the far right side in the passenger area and started taking off the panels coming all the way to the brake valve assembly.???  Maybe not!  But the tough thing to do will be to punch out those "spring pins" to get the red and yellow knob off.  The replacement valve they sell you will be different than the one on your truck.  But you will be able to figure it out.
Good luck.

Hey brother, it was good to see you again at the Rally!

Even I wouldn't fool around with rebuilding one. Available used, and how often do they really go bad/leak?

Thanks Rock for the kind words.  Been looking for the air leak for a while, got new hearing aids and now can hear it...

Thanks Sibernut, I will not try to rebuild, thought there might be a replacement that was not a volvo part.  Kinda like the oil pressure sensor Jim Hicks was pricing , but I will replace with a new one , too much work to do it twice.

I don't know about Volvo but Freightliner remember which lines go where and at what angle. Not much room back there and need them right or it just won't fit back in place. B)

KN20607 is the Haldex part number.  http://epi.hbsna.com...07&dept_id=3181

I don't see a direct x-ref to 85112212, but the link above to Class8TruckParts says it crosses to 8085430, which does cross to KN20607.  You may be able to order it through NAPA.  Their web site shows it but they don't stock it.  I do know that they can order pretty much anything they want from Haldex.  It would shipped to the NAPA jobber from KCMo.

Then of course there is that eBay auction for $112 + $10 shipping.....

If you are going with an non-OEM valve be forewarned that yes it will work but the line hook ups may very well be in different positions, making hook up challenging. Seen it happen at a dealership, oem valve not available but book says this one "crosses over", took them 8hours to do a 2hour job

Unless your valve had been changed sometime in the past, the new one will be different, and they have instructions at the Volvo dealer for install.
