PAylor
Hi all, Once again I'm turning to the experts! Our fifth wheel weighs 15500 pounds. We have had a few flat tires. My husband has used wooden blocks to support the rv. He wants to get some jack stands to replace the blocks. When it's jacked up the tongue is supported with the truck, the other wheels are on the ground. So is are 6 ton jack stands good enough? Thanks in advance! chirakawa
Are they shop quality jack stands, or did they come from Harbor Freight? Are you going to use one on each side behind the wheels or two on each side, one behind the wheels and one in front? Even though 6 tons is an adequate rating, I wouldn't crawl up underneath with just one Harbor Freight stand behind the wheels on each side. It would probably be okay, but I've seen what happens when it fails. If you're just changing a tire and using the jack stand as a backup to the jack, you're probably okay. Kirk W
Six tons would be 12,000 pounds so if we assume that you plan to put them under the axles, thus requiring four separate jack-stands then you should have ample capacity. GeorgiaHybrid
Remember that most jack stands are rated for a pair of them. A pair of 6 ton jack stands are only good for 3 tons each unless they are specifically noted on them. 2017 Kenworth T6802015 DRV 38RSSA Elite Suites2016 Smart Prime
Jimalberta
I believe in safety so for a 3 ton load I would be buying a 6 ton stand or even heavier. After all its me under there. <p>....JIM and LINDA......2001 American Eagle 40 '.towing a GMC Sierra 1500 4X4 with RZR in the rear. 1999 JEEP Cherokee that we tow as well.
