Hawaii Visit

I am retired military. The DW and I are considering a trip to Hawaii next year to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Has anyone used the Hale Koa military hotel/facilities and have any pros/cons? We have found sometimes it is better to stay "on the economy" for more atmosphere, at least years ago in Europe.

Probably not much help but I stayed there in an ocean view room..It was a very long time ago tho. I'm trying to remember a site where MWR facilities were rated...

We live in HI in the winters. Just got back 2 weeks ago from a 2 month stay. If you get a chance and can get in by all means stay at the Hale Koa. We put our family up there when they come to visit. But you need to book early because it can be hard to get in. You will love it. As a side note if you are there over a weekend on either Saturday night 5 or 7 PM or Sunday 7,9,11 AM come on down to New Hope Ohau on Sand Island Access Rd for Service you will not regret it.

I went TDY there many many years ago and stayed at Hale Koa. It was a beautiful expensive place then. As an active duty E-6, I think the rate was around $75.00 a night and my room was small and as well as I remember it had no windows.. Like I said that was many years ago. An 0-6 traveling with us got a room on some thing like the 6th floor and 2 walls were glass and facing the ocean. Personally, I would look at http://www.militarycampgrounds.us/ for cottages.
