Latest ECR Update and Schedule

SuiteSuccess

Recommended Posts

We now have 29 folks confirmed for the ECR with possibility of a few more. This is going to be our largest rally to date.

We are also fortunate to have a number of newcomers to the rally which we would like to welcome. I have changed the timing of some of the presentations so that we can hopefully accommodate those new to HDTing and who were unable to attend for other than the weekend. Again I would like to thank the presenters and think this will be a great educational and social gathering.

The question has already arisen about the check in for the rally. Please check in with the campground at the general store at the entrance to the campground and pay only camping fees there. We will have a table set up at site 336 on Saturday April 11 where the rally check in will occur and rally fee will be paid. Those that will already be at the campground will need to still check in on Saturday unless I have previously contacted you and signed you in. Of note , I will not have the ability to take credit cards for the fee. Again thanks to all the supporters and see you April 11 or sooner!

On edit for any newcomers, trust your GPS or other directions to get to the campground. It is out in the country and travels down a two lane road approximately 3.5 miles. (Easy Drive with our rigs). Some low hanging tree limbs since recent ice storm but easily avoided and none of the limbs are large.

We just made a site reservation to attend the rally. We plan to leave Sumter Oaks, SKP Park, Bushnell, FL on the 9th of April and arrive on Saturday the 11th if we don't break down as we did on our way to the Nat'l Rally in October. On that trip, I called Jack and Rocky for help. Rocky was already at the rally and was able to brainstorm probable causes and solutions with others at the rally site and forward suggestions to me. That was great! I don't expect to break down again, but if anyone who will be at the ECR early is willing to provide phone support if we break down on our way there, we would really appreciate it if they could e-mail me their phone number. ( jimgell517 at gmail dot com) THANKS!

We are not looking forward to traveling up I 75 through Atlanta, but I don't see a reasonable way to avoid it. How bad is is the traffic at mid day? Any good alternatives coming up I 75 from Florida? My 3 pedal auto shift clutch is heavy and I will need to put it in neutral to stay at full stops for very long.

I certainly am looking forward to rally. I certainly need to learn a lot more about what we are trying to do!

Jim,

I will be at the rally early but unfortunately am not a good resource for troubleshooting these trucks. I will still send you my phone number in case I can help with anything. I think Steve Dixon (SDixon747) has a three pedal but he will be overseas in his day job as you can see from my above post. I know Nuke-E is coming in early and maybe couple of others. Dave is always a resource. Again just call my number and we will help as best we can. Look forward to meeting you.

Avoiding Atlanta is pretty much unavoidable.

We've been stuck in this area (Rome and Atlanta area for a few years and do ~50K miles a year in GA). You're best times thru the city (or around 285) is probably between 11am and 2pm or after 7 pm. Even the early hours of 4-5 am the traffic is starting to build. Personally I'd go straight thru I-75 thru the city during those times.

Bushnell is about 400 miles from Atlanta so you're looking at a long day if you want to do it on Thursday. Probably best to stop around Macon for the night and start from there on after a leisurely breakfast (9-10am) on Friday. Of course then you get the snowbirds going north on Friday but that's not too bad.

Barring an overturned cattle truck or some dolt that hits the median on a straight road and closes the interstate it should be smooth sailing. Any side roads or state highways are going to be bad news for stop and go and traffic so stick to the interstate.

Don;t panic!

I'll probably be "on the road" around there on Thurs/Friday so if you want give a call and I can give you a better Idea of traffic. Anything else give a call we're outside of Rome.

Wish we were making the rally. Been three/four years and work has interfered but this the LAST year for work so maybe next year.

Phone and email sent. If you're not too rushed maybe stop by.

Carl and the group, sad to say I had to cancel my reservation today. Just not going to be able to make it this year.

Gene,

Sorry to hear that. You will be missed. Tentative dates are April 9 - 16 for next year so put it on your calendar

Hi Everyone,

The weather here in Ohio is not my friend. I wake up to a 1/2" of snow and 14*F. The temperatures are 20 to 25 degree's below normal. It is tuff to work outside in this weather. When I was younger, it was no problem. I need some warm weather to finish working on the truck. I need to install all the hardware for the resign of the rear hitch and the hitch it's self and also the air line for the hitch. The next big project is to repack the wheel bearings on the trailer. I have never done this before. I have repacked wheel bearings on cars. So I figure it is the same process. The funny thing is that I retired from a steel company that makes bearings. And there is also a few odds and ends that need to be finished. One of those is to get the dog house back in place with the bottom of the dash.

Enough of that talk, and thanks for listening,

Al

Our HDT and fifth is on order but we will be there on Saturday to say "hi" and get some homework done.

Carl-

We'll swing by your site and register for the day if we need to. We wanted to bring our camper but just couldn't swing it this year with work....but next year we'll have the truck and fifth so we'll plan on making it then.

I have the 3 peddle auto as well.

When was the last time you blead the clutch or greased the clutch forks?

I do have some PDF on the tray so we can have a look once I know more about your issues.

Looking forward to getting dirty!!!

David,

Swing by just to say hi but no need to register. Just thanks for coming. If you could see fit to stay through Sunday morning going to be several good educational seminars open. Kim had three cabins open if you need a place to overnight.

Al,

Re packing wheel bearings is just like a car. I hand pack like my dad showed me but they have "automatic" repackers. Just make sure bearings and races are ok and good grease. Bearings are pretty standard and usually available at NAPA or O'Reily's

+1 on this advise....I drive in Atlanta a lot for work and to see our daughter there. 10:00 to 11;30 or 1;00 to 2:00 are the best times to go thru. You could take I-285 to the west around the loop but if you get there during the times noted, blow straight on thru. Whatever you do, don't take I-285 east around Atlanta as the I-85 and I-75 intersections in that direction are a bear.

Is anyone planning on staying past April 18th? We have a week to spend somewhere before moving to River Plantation in Sevierville Tn.

Just looking for ideas..

Jim,

Several of us will be there past the 18th for another week so feel free to join in. This year the schedule seems to be a pre-rally rally, a rally, then a post-rally rally.
