Direct Genie HR44 - WiFi not connecting to Verizon phone Hotspot

Recommended Posts

I have a Verizon phone, Droid RAZR M set in Hotspot Mobile Mode, that for some reason the Genie will not connect to. I've been able to connect the Genie to our WiFiRange GO2 without any problems.

We have no problems connecting the Samsung Smart TV and laptops, directly to this Verizon Droid hone Hotspot.

Any tips on setting to check on either Verizon or HR44?

TIA,

Smitty

I had a similar problem with my Roku not wanting to connect directly to one of our phones. In that particular case I think the problem was due to an ASCII character used in the network password that wasn't in the Roku's allowed character set even though we could type it in. When we changed the password to remove the character (I think it was a "^") everything was Ok. Don't know if this will help you, but the phone's passwords are easily changed from the default ones.

Thanks Joel,

Password is Alpha (With the first character capitalized.), and then two numbers at the end. Same basic format of the password that is connectible from the Genie GO2.

And note, this is not something new. As I've never been able to connect the Genie to the Versizon phone hotspot...

Still confused, not an unusual state:)!

  • 2 weeks later...

Back to an area with a strong enough of a Verizon signal to stream again.

Can connect to the Samsung Smart TV, no problem.

Can see the Verizon Droid on the Genie HR44, but when entering the password it fails to connect. With the normal check your signal strength, etc. prompts.

I read on one DirecTV thread, that someone had a firewall setting that needed changing before they could connect. (Not a Verizon phone, but it was a MiFi on another carrier.) Can anyone think of any setting on my Verizon Droid for me to check specifically? This is all of course, via WiFi, not Verizon DSL or FIOS type connections.

Or from the paranoid front of life, is DirecTV and Verizon not playing well with each other all of the time? ATT owning DirecTV should make this fun when trying to utilize Unlimited Verizon accounts:)!
