Corn Field Rally with Motorcycles

Recommended Posts

This may not be exactly the right place to put this, but wanted to get the invitation out.

On July 24th thru 27th, Rickeieio & I, along with the DW's, are going to be at a small campground called "Little Farm on the River", which is about 25 miles down the Ohio from Cincinnati.

Motorcycle riding will be done on the twisty roads in that area. If that doesn't seem risky enough for you, there is a casino about a mile down the road. Would welcome other HDT'ers, motorcycles or no, for a nice weekend.

If you have the time and inclination, please stop by & we'll have a completely unorganized baby rally. PM me if you have questions that I probably can't answer.

I might add that just 5 miles away is a microbrewery http://www.gcbeer.com/ and there are some ice cream places that will make nice evening rides.

I've not had our rig in there, but I know BandBuds, SDixon, and Quinn the Eskimo have been there. They seemed to be happy with the sites.

Yeah, been to both campgrounds mentioned above on scouting trips. Follow the River sites are silly wide open but may be a fuzz short depending on your rig configuration. Little Farm on the River has it's big sites down by the river and again may be a fuzz short depending on your rig configuration. Both are mostly pull thru's but Little Farm has back in sites as well that are a bit bigger. Nothing fancy in either case, just a nice place to park kick back.

I just made our reservations. Quick and painless. Note: They don't want you to make reservations via email. Phone calls are the prefered method.

Here's their website. Pretty corny, but hey, it's Little Farm....... http://www.littlefarmresort.com/reservations.html

Dang, Rick. Between you central plains boys, and the West coast crowd, it's getting so a Canadian can't even open the HDT section without pangs of envy. How come none of these events happen when we're in the USA?

I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again.

Well, I guess you just didn't stick around long enough?

Maybe next winter we can gather 'round the campfire somewhere. Susan retired from her bus driving job as of three days ago, so now we can sneak away for a while in the winter.

Bumpity-bump.

We're still a "go" for the last weekend in July. If anyone is in the area, stop by. If you have a motorcycle, great. If not, you can still participate in the fireside story telling and bs contest.

Susan and I just got back from 175 miles of scouting the roads in the area of the Corn Field Rally. I can say with certainty that there's plenty of corn, soybeans, tobacco, and suicidal squirrels. I've ridden these roads for the past 45 years, and saw more squirrels on the road today than ever. Literally saw 5 in less than 10 seconds once.

Anyway, the roads are in mostly good condition, and the weather looks to be cooler, and less humid, than we are currently experiencing.

Dare I say quality v. quantity? Nah.

Friday, Paul and Paula rolled in and set up by us. We did the meet and greet and voted to pile into the LGT and go to the seafood buffet at the casino. Then yesterday (Saturday) we took the bikes over an indirect but winding route to the little town of Madison, IN for lunch and wandered through some shops before heading back to camp.

When we got back, we discovered that Steve and Gail Dixon were here too.

Today we're headed to a car show in Cincinnati, about 20 miles upstream from here.

Cornfield rally was a resounding success. Nobody showed up but the Pope & you know how he is about global warming. That comment about "cooler and less humid" a few posts ago was just an ugly lie. However, the dinner at the Casino Friday was pretty darn good, breakfast the following morning was outstanding, the riding was curvy and squirrelly, and lunch in Madison was a spectacle to remember. The redeeming event in Madison was the ice cream parlor, which caused several cases of brain freeze. Really good ice cream. Did I mention installing new headlights on Friday until midnight while under kamikaze attack by mosquitos the size of hummingbirds. Saturday night dinner was a collective effort, involving steak, fresh halibut, pie, and many groans. All in all, an outstanding rally.

Any sightings of Keith Code? Looking for video footage of "Before" his course to off-set the "After" videos on Youtube? Sounds like a fun time.

Darryl,

Keith Code? Isn't he an olde farte, about my age? Actually, I was doing my best Bubba Shobert impersonation, which isn't very good.

Paul might be exaggerating a wee bit. After he threw in the towel and left David Dixon and I to wrap up the headlight job, the big boys came out. (well, actually only the female mosquitoes suck blood. Kinda fitting.....)

On Saturday, we did find a corner or three to try and straighten, went to the nastiest little hole in the wall hamburger joint, and still had a great day. When we got back, we discovered the other "Dixons", Steve and Gail, had snuck in a few sites down. More banter and half truths..........but which half?

Sunday was forecast to be even warmer and muggier that Saturday, so we wussed out and piled into the Bozo Bus (my f-150) and went to a car show. It was free and quite good. Lots of cars like those in the parking lot when I was in high school last century.

So, now we need to look for a campground with good riding and decent weather in January.
