  1. Rocky, It worked, Thanks, Dick T
  2. Rocky, I did as instructed, and just returned from a 35 mile test run, with NO error codes. We are going to hook up and give it a try. Rocky, I'm sure with the work you guys do, you have been a blessing for many, and now you can add 1 more to that list. We have in the past tried some missionary work, not on your scale for sure, but too old now. I think we were blessed more than those we helped. Sermon over!! Thanks again, and stay safe. Dick & Susan.
  3. We are out in the desert by Bull Head City, Az., and everything was fine when we dry camped here 3 weeks ago. I have started the truck several times, and let in idle for as much as 15-20 minutes. wanted to head out tomorrow AM, so drove the truck to town for fuel. Got the 1st warning after about 20 miles, lost power, but engine didn't shut down until a full stop. Low coolant error code, so cleared the code after making sure coolant not low, fired it up, and took off. Got fuel, and headed back to camp to load up. In the next 25 miles, we had several more shut downs. After looking more closely, I noticed the radiator tank, was full on the bottom passenger side, but dry on the lower driver side. Could it be just the sensor? I think this happened once about 10-12 years ago, and I just replaced the sensor, after I crossed wired the terminals until I got a few miles to a Petro. But if I remember correctly, both bottom tanks were full. No Volvo dealers close by, and after 3 weeks the 5th RV has some tanks full, and some empty. Any Ideas??? Thanks, oletimer
  4. Randy, I purchased a 2006 with 500K mile in 2010, and was disappointed with the MPG, so did the EGR delete, and at the same time, did the weed burner thing. Ran a straight pipe (a few bends & turns) with a turn down @ about a 1/3 turn. Removed the donut still got 6 1/2 MPG, and no change in power. I think the slight turn really helps with the dust, we live in the country, and 3 miles off the payment. After a year or so, I had to replace the cooler ($$). So, I removed the plug, but retained the weed burner. I'm 76 years old now, and can't hear so good, plus I had back surgery 12 weeks ago, soooo, I'm now in the process of reinstalling the stack. I saved everything, muffler, brackets, etc., but everything seems much heavier than it did 9 years ago. I hope after the reinstall I will be able to hear the "Top dog" better. OH WAIT, is that a good thing?? BTW, I was surprised your 2004 had a EGR, I didn't think they had them until 05, or 06 at the cost of a mile or two MPG. Good luck with your truck, and your back as well. Dick T
  5. Thanks Darryl, I have the sensor removed, and it is the thermocouple type. I had also looked on the parts sites the other day, and found the one that looks just like mine, but has a different part number. I'll give it a try.
  6. 2016 SpaceCraft has been setting most of the summer either here at home or at the factory. Got it picked up from the factory a couple months ago, and "she" started the cleanup with the AC on. It worked fine, then it set in the barn for about a month, and again, "she" wanted to do a re-clean(???) then load for the winter. AC wouldn't work, and got the E5 error code, which means a bad freeze sensor, or an open circuit. No RV repair in the area, and after research I guess either the sensor or the board is bad. I was wondering if I could just wire the 2 wires on the sensor to gather and check the sensor that way, or would that fry the board. Dometic was no help. I not trying to be "cheap" just trying to order the correct part so I could get cool. Hate to deadhead a couple hundred miles, got too much work to do. Thanks for any thoughts. Dick T.
  7. New years vacation 2015, I purchased & installed a LED kit from David, buffed the lens, and was going to clear coat them "later". The a couple years later, I rebuffed the lens again, but still was too lazy to add the clear. (We don't drive at night much anyway) Sooo, I have now purchased the complete lights, also from David. If anyone would like my old kit with or without the yellowed housings I would sell them on the cheap, around $100. The problem is the delivery. We are in Hoyt, Kansas (Topeka), and will be heading to Brackettville, Texas (Del Rio) soon, so if I could drop them off somewhere?? I could remove the kit, and toss the old housings then the freight wouldn't be so much. If anyone is interested give me a call, or text @ 785-608-3775, we have been so busy, plus we have had a few issues, so I haven't been on the forum for some time, so the phone would be quicker. Happy travels, and be safe.' Thanks, Dick T

    Sudden Slow Start

We have had a very busy summer on the Kansas farm/home, so haven't been able to "go" much. We did take a small lake trip to Stockton, Mo. about 600 mile round trip. The truck is now running normal, the fuel mileage increase = "0" as far as I can tell from the DID. Still around 6.4 to 6.7, I guess my comment about better mileage was just wishful thinking. Oh well, it does now start after just a few turns like is used to. My son said they carry an extra cam timing sensor for his spray trucks, and have replaced them in the field, because when they go out on a IHC D-530-E it shuts them down. Must be in a different location on the IHC, because the Volvo repair was $650 +. BTW, glad you guys are not homeless any longer. Dick T

    Sudden Slow Start

Volvo #20508011 Cam Timing Sensor I have replaced several sensors on the truck, but I think the engine has 14(?) sensors, or so I've been told, and didn't know about this one. No sure I would have tried the replacement anyway.

    Sudden Slow Start

Picked up the truck today. Fast start, more power, better response. I was not sure what to expect as I was sure it was a fuel pressure problem. Had to eat some crow!!! Now if it only remains this good? Tech tool, $140 Sensor $ 47 Install $420 Supplies? $ 67 I'm still happy!!! I have been fighting this the last 5 months, (slow start, poor mileage, slower response of power) I guess I didn't get bad fuel after all. Now maybe my MPG will go all the way back up to 6.7. Dick T

    Sudden Slow Start

Well, I have been busy with several issues since we got back to Kansas in late April, so haven't had enough time or brains to do much on the starting problem. Took the truck to the Volvo dealer (Westfall) in K.C. today, and just got a call that the "cam timing sensor" is bad. $650. I hope they are correct!! Another SENSOR! All this time I have been blaming my problem on fuel pressure lose after getting some bad fuel? I will post about the results later, and hopefully the problem will be solved. I will have to say, in our travels this last winter my overall MPG went from 6.5 to 6.4, and it seemed like the truck was working harder on the climbs. Maybe just between my ears??? Dick T

    Sudden Slow Start

I am now having the same problem. While heading South after being back in NE Kansas for a few days in January we got about 180 gal fuel at a small station by Durant, Ok. Then when we had used about 120 gal of that I noticed lower power, and mileage. Checked the filter/separator and drained about an ounce or two of water. I do carry extra filters so I changed that filter/separator, and checked the fuel in it, and found quite a bit of rust/dirt. Of all times, I didn't have an extra one of the other fuel filters on board, but it did start running better, and the mileage kinda' returned?? I have since replaced that one as well, but it still seems just a little short on power (maybe just in my head), and after it sits for even just a short time it requires 7-10 seconds of starter where as before it didn't. My prime pump only requires 3-4 pumps, and doesn't show any leaks, and even when I pump it up it still takes a lot of starter the first start. If I restart after a minute or two it starts after a crank or two. Does that mean the air leak is after the pump, or before? All new injectors and coppers in 2011, about 50K miles. How many places do I check for an air leak anyway? BTW, I had an earlier post about a sweeping power steering hose, but got that replaced, with having to remove anything except the hose itself. Those crowfoot ratchet-heads sure come in handy. Dick T
