oldjohnt
So, for Toads my personal choice is a 4 door mid sized sedan which has an auto tranny that you can tow 4 down and I have a Chevy Malibu Classic that suits the bill and have used Saturns in the past. The other day my Chevy started up but then dies a few seconds later (does the same over and over). I tried my own scanner and did some preliminary troubleshooting plus took it to a reputable auto repair shop AND WE BOTH AGREE its NOT any anti theft problem but some sort of a computer problem. All the code scanners (my own plus the shops very expensive units) all say failed to establish connection,,,,,,,,,It starts up then dies,,,,,,,,,,no anti theft indicator lights,,,,,,,,,,the key FOB stopped working,,,,,,,,,,,,excellent fuel pressure,,,,,,,no resets or battery removal or anything else can fix it. I'm taking it to a Chevrolet dealer Tuesday and I bet they can diagnose the cause. What your best guesses, bad ECM or bad PCM or other???? BlueLghtning
Could it be a communication issue between the key & the computer? Is there a chip in the key or keyfob? You said the key fob stopped working which seems to suggest it's not communicating with the computer, yet you don't suspect an anti theft issue? Is it just because there are no anti-theft lights on or something else? To me the fact it starts then dies sounds exactly like some sort of anti theft mechanism? If it was a bad computer issue, I don't even think the car would try to start successfully? Is there a procedure to reset the key or restablish that connection first to see if you can get past that? oldjohnt
Blue, its NOT a chipped key. It has a new lock and a new anti theft sensor in the ignition. When anti theft trips the anti theft light is on and it wont start at all, this one starts then dies grrrrrrrrrrrrrr lol It goes to Chevy tomorrow I will let yall know what they find John

Ray,IN
DW bought a new Lincoln MKZ last spring. Salesman recommended to always carry an extended service contract after the factory warranty expired, because nearly everything is electronically-controlled/activated, and repairs are outrageously high. I asked my mechanic, and he said the same thing. 2000 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom USQ40JD, ISC 8.3 Cummins 350, Spartan MM Chassis. USA IN 1SG retired;Good Sam Life member,FMCA ." Ray,IN
John, look at the glass half-full. We bought 2 new cars this year because of the wreck that destroyed DW's Jeep last Feb. In April we bought a new Lincoln MKZ, which was great while DW was an invalid, but when she recovered she didn't like it at all, so last week she bought a new Jeep Grand Cherokee to replace the destroyed Jeep. BTW, I got $80 for the destroyed Jeep at the junk yard. 2000 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom USQ40JD, ISC 8.3 Cummins 350, Spartan MM Chassis. USA IN 1SG retired;Good Sam Life member,FMCA ." All my computers in the truck were still functional so that could be a good reason I suppose.
