Need opinion on Cummins engine extended warranty

I realize extended warranties are controversial. That said, Cummins offers this warranty on their engine:

10 years/200,00 miles (plan RMC) but it only covers these items with a $100 deductible:
Engine Cylinder
Block Casting
Oil Cooler Cover/Filter Heads
Engine Cylinder Head Casting
Oil Pan
Engine Cylinder Head Capscrews
Gear Cover and Housing
Engine Crankshaft Forging
Gear Train Gears
Engine Camshaft Forging
Crankcase Gear
Engine Connecting Rods
Camshaft Idler Gear
Flywheel Housing
Accessory Drive Gear
Engine Manifold Castings
Fuel Pump Drive Gear
Valve Covers

The cost is $1200.

They offer others that are more comprehensive but those only add two years time and no mileage to the factory warranty.

Thoughts?

I plan on getting one on our truck (it can be added during the original warranty period) but will get one that covers the EGR, DPF Filter and DEF doser. That would run around $1,800 or so and is like buying insurance on a blackjack bet at a casino. You know the house is going to get some money to make sure they don't get a LOT later down the road.

Is that from Cummins? Did they quote that for your exact rig? What warranty period is the extension?

I learned that they have MANY different plans but not all are available for every engine.

That warranty is from Cummins and will depend on the size and year of the engine and the HP and torque that the engine is set at. In our case, a 2017 model year, EPA13 15L Cummins ISX set at 500HP and 1650 torque. The smaller engines go for a lot more than that for some reason. In our case, I think the quote was for 7 years and 250,000 miles.

In my humble opinion if it doesn't blow up in the first 10,000 miles, as in within the standard warrantee, the parts listed in there aren't going to break. They are going to last a long, long time at the use "we" put on them. They are all heavy metal.

What may break is pollution stuff and electronics.

In all the years that I have driven . This includes personal and company owned trucks some brand new and some with 2 million plus miles on them . Of the list of covered items I have blown one turbo and that truck had 1.25 million miles on the motor .

You do the math ....but where it me i'd put the money in the bank and make repairs to the coach because the motor will require less overhaul than body and interior.

Just MHO and the only one that can really answer is you .

Pay attention to what is covered on the emissions crap. It may be that truck mfr's are required to cover items by law for XXX miles, like cars. I don't see ANY emissions stuff on your list.

That is kinda what I was thinking. Most parts are covers or cases or similar and I'm not sure how they would break other than physical breaks which would likely start a discussion about that...

The stuff we have had break on our 2004 Cummins ISL is not listed. We have replaced injectors, the turbocharger, the exhaust manifold, the starter and the compressor plus wiring and the engine computer. (2004 was not a good year for this engine, since they were transitioning between designs).
