Leisure Travel Vans customer service?

We have a 2012 LTV Unity IB (island bed), you don't say which model or where you plan to buy. We were very unhappy with our dealer and will not go back to them for anything. However, we have been very happy with the factory. If you don't mind going to Canada. We have almost 40,000 miles and love it.

Selecting a reputable dealer with proven product and customer support is a critical point; no matter how good the quality of the *factory* customer support is, most issues are resolved through the selling dealer, and a lousy dealer makes for a lousy experience! For example, I just did a zip code search for a "local" dealer for Leisure Travel; the closest to my residence (90 miles) was an unacceptable choice. "Convenient" location, maybe, but a multi-brand dealership with a mediocre-to-poor reputation for customer service and isue resolution. I'd have to carefully vet the much farther away dealerships (most in another state) and buy the rig from them. If issues developed after delivery (and there usually are a few warts!), I'd have to take the rig back to the selling dealer or take pot luck with the closer one. But, especially if I'm spending $125-$130k on a rig, I want the best support possible, even if that support is at a distance.

I am very unhappy with the sprinter and the SCR engines with all of the DEF problems iv'e had. personaly I would never buy another diesel again until they work out all of the kinks!!

 

I admit it I do like the murphy bed on the leisure time RV'S :)

We picked up our LTV Unity 24 Island bed last year on Labor Day weekend. So far, things have gone quite well with LTV. However, things "grind amazing slow" with any repairs at the selling dealership. Most of the "push back" seems to be AUTHORIZATION TO REPAIR. In other words, who is going to pay for the repair? Is it a LTV issue or is it an issue with one of the suppliers that LTV used?

 

For instance; if my ONAN GENERATOR has a warranty issue, I found out that the selling dealer is not an ONAN DEALER and cannot do warranty repairs. You will have to find an ONAN AUTHORIZED DEALER to fix your generator. [The ONAN EXTENDED WARRANTY is a BARGAIN!]

 

In essence, the systems in your RV were not manufactured by LTV and you will need to find a capable RV dealer that is AUTHORIZED to work on that particular component.

 

Take your Mercedes issues to a MERCEDES/SPRINTER dealer. [i purchased an "extended warranty @ my Mercedes dealership]

 

 

Take your "DOMETIC" A/C, REFRIGERATER, STOVE and TOILET to the "authorized service facility/ dealer" and so on...... I am sure that I can find a DOMETIC REPAIR & SERVICE FACILITY closer to me than my "selling dealer".

 

All of the components that make up your RV are pretty much the same components used by all of the other RV builders, so finding an AUTHORIZED WARRANTY REPAIR STATION shouldn't be too difficult to find.

 

" CUSTOMER PAY" service better known as "yearly maintenance" can also be provided by these closer dealers as well.

 

I would urge you to review all of the "individual manufacturers warranty requirements" and comply with their particular requirements. Send in the warranty card or log in to register etc.

 

You will find a sheet of paper on the inside cover the owners manual from LTV. This will have all of your model and serial numbers for each component. Register away!

Thank you for this information. I can see how it could be nice to be able to have components serviced locally instead of going to a LTV dealer. But the push back and figuring out who handles the warranty sounds like a hassle. Does it have to go to the LTV dealer first for assessment, or can you just take it straight to the Onan dealer for example? And what happens if some component fails that requires an hour of shop time to remove it? Or if an LTV-installed tank has to be dropped to get to a failed component?

 

On a slightly different subject, what mpg have you gotten in real life use?

I think that you are making it more complicated than things usually are. If you look through the big pile of paperwork that came with your new RV you will find that the warranty on the appliances and added equipment is all provided by the appliance manufacturer and so it is extremely rare for any work on them to need to be taken to an authorized LTV dealer but any shop that is authorized to do warranty work on that appliance can and will take care of it for you.

Appliances that are designed to be installed in RVs do not surprise warranty workers when they find them there. It may take them a minute or two to figure out the access to this particular one but in my experience they are pretty good at figuring it out.

We use the heck out of our 2016 Leisure Unity MB. We love the design. We decided to go with this "premium" brand because we hoped "premium" would equate with exceptional reliability. Since Oct 1, 2015, after over 120 nights and almost 13000 miles, we have to say that we are disappointed with the reliability of the onboard equipment. (No issues with the MB Sprinter 3500.) So far: the awning first failed to close, then failed to open; the slide out failed to open; the refrigerator gas function failed; the generator tailpipe hangar failed; the hot water heater totally failed, both gas and electric functions (so, as appears to be typical, we must wait a month for a repair appointment while trying to keep out trip going). Has anyone else had similar experiences?

I see that more than one posted about dealer problems. Since we do not live near any dealers and would have to travel to them how do we find out which one to avoid? Also, Can you let us know which dealer is good? We are thinking of buying one of these vans this spring.

I can only speak from our experience, but after extensive research, we went with a Phoenix Cruiser 2400 on the Sprinter chassis http://www.phoenixusarv.com/2400.html . This manufacturer sells direct and backs up service at any reputable repair facility near you if you can't bring it to Elkhart, IN. Every RV has issues. Some of course more than others, especially models in the last few years. We love the floor plan of our 2012 Unity IB and have 50,000 miles on it. We have had great work done at the factory, Winkler Manitoba Canada - but we no longer travel that area. We have also been pleased with Wagon Trail RV in Las Vegas Nevada.
