wildmandmc
2000 Itasca Horizon Dp. About 5 trips ago with it, Started up, heading out the Speedometer was going backwards. Pulled over shut off an then worked ok. Next time did same thing, 3rd time out started up an stuck at 6mph. 4th trip out low front air buzzer went off. gauge went back an forth from 0-130, then would creap up to 125 an stay. then all of sudden went back/forth 0 - 130, When i stopped in N. put foot on breaks an can hear the air being released. So air brakes in front are working, just buzzer/gauge is going bezerk. Got home ok. Then went out one day to start it up run for few, noticed RPM went up to 20 (2000). on low idle, hit peddal went to 30, Released Air Break , pulled forward an RPM went to Max, Then to it's furthest point. an now stays there. Shutting off an firing it up again gauge stays at furthest point, doesn't reset itself. Question..... I think all these 3 issues are related. am i correct? Do they all go into the same relay switch. ? One concern is (taking to repair shop, ) remembering in old days when speedometer went past 80mph it would break when it hit the nob, Could needle on gauge of RPM do same or just stay there? Batteries are less then year old. All showing correct readings. Has Cat 300 eng. On a Frieghtliner Chassis. 2000 Itasca Horizon DP (Got Total During Irma). Kirk W
I'm not a pusher man but on most vehicles today, nearly everything is controlled by or through the electronic module. I'd highly suspect that is the case here and the root of your problems. Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... coachmac9
I have no clue about your model of DP but my instrument panel in my Chevy truck did the same exact thing. First it was the speedometer going crazy(finally just quit working) then another gauge did the same thing. I have a good friend that is a mechanic told me the gauges have modules and when the modules go bad that is what happens. Sounds like the same thing you are experiencing. You have to take the dash apart to get to the back of the instruments to change the modules out AND the modules are expensive. If I remember correctly it was going to be 300 dollars for the modules for my truck. I just use the tachometer and speedometer app on my phone!! wildmandmc
so i take it that it's 3 seperate modules 2000 Itasca Horizon DP (Got Total During Irma). Ronbo
Start by disconnecting your batteries. If there is a fuse holder in the battery compartment, pull that fuse also. Wait about 5-10 min and reconnect everything and see if that fixes it. Sometimes they just get confused and have to be reset. Dale P
Sounds like the VDC has either a problem or a loose connections inside of one of the connectors. On the early FL DP it was located behind the passenger side rear tire storage area. The VDC is about 1.5 inches thick, by maybe 7 inches square with 2 air lines attached to it. These air lines feed the sensors which tells you the air pressure on the air gauges on the dash. The VDC takes the data from the ECM and converts it to usable signal for the gauges. Since you are in the dark, a call to Freightliner 24/7 hotline with the last 6 digits (VIN) should be able to get you an operators manuals showing what I am talking about. By the way, the person talking about his truck and your problem is 2 very different systems. Chris-n-Dennis
Isn't the Horizon the equivalent of a Journey? I seem to recall there was issues with the wiring harnesses in some year/models. Paul Dahl wrote about it over on his blog and after a bit of searching, I was able to find it. No clue if this will help but just another tool/possibility in your pocket: http://rsanityrvtravels.blogspot.com/2015/04/talk-about-customer-service.html Berkshire XL 40QL Camphosting and touring Our blog: cndtravels.blogspot.com
lenp
I think Dale is onto something but if that is not the issue check for good ground connections wherever you can find them. My old 2003 International 4400 had a bad ground and it drove me crazy for months. wildmandmc
Thanks, i will try the easiest first, disconnecting batteries , then to pull dash, while same time talking to FL. My Gut feeling is that where they all tie into could be the culprit . An i do think journey an horizon are tied together somehow. 2000 Itasca Horizon DP (Got Total During Irma). wildmandmc
ok, didn't see the VDC in battery compartment, un hooked batteries. waited, then hooked them back up. gauge RPM went backwards a little, shut off eng, prior to engaging starter went back little more few times got to go back to 0 rpm. Hit peddle went to 20 rpm, stayed there, an still climbs. But doesn't go back to 0. 2000 Itasca Horizon DP (Got Total During Irma). Pat & Pete
Not that I know much about DPs , but from what you've said so far , it almost sounds like it could be caused by bad grounds . Goes around , comes around .
Dale P
Again, Freightliner has a 24/7 hotline. Call them. All the gauges and instrumentation dash light panel are tried together thru the VDC on a Freightliner chassis. When you first turn the key on. The VDC will turn on all the lights, at the same time all the gauges will come on and swing to one side and then back to rest. There have been a few cases where the pin inside the VDC connector has become dislodge and backed out. So first you have to locate the VDC and then start looking. Of course I could be wrong if this is not a Freightliner chassis. coachmac9
Oh no you probably nailed it, I am clueless on the diesel stuff...I was just glad you posted the info because I also have a DP with a Freightliner chassis...now if that happens to us I will have some idea of what is going on or have a place to start looking!! Wrknrvr
You may want to Google RV j1939 problem. Several years ago I was working on a motor home that had dash problems. It was a loose connection in a splice on a j1939 communication cable. I just googled a RV j1939 and found a few awnsers for you to think about. Safe Travels.
