Wiring question for Dish 1000.2 Antenna

Recommended Posts

First post guys. Hello to all.

I’m learning fast, but I’m a real novice when it comes to this stuff.

We have a Winegard Road Trip SD on roof of the camper. It is blocked by trees right now.

We had Dish install a Dish 1000.2. about 50 feet from the camper. I plan to bring this antenna along with us when we travel. I purchased the Winegard tripod for this. We have a 722K. We have good signals from sats 110, 119, 129. We are in coastal NC if that helps.

Is this the best wiring scenario? 3 LNBs 3 cables, but only one cable is connected to the VIP722K? I took the antenna arm apart to see how the cables were attached.

The tech attached a short black cable to one of the coax jacks and just stuffed the other end of the cable into the antenna stand. He also used orange colored RG6 cable that has two coax lines together with a ground wire all as one cable. This orange cable is attached to two LNB’s on the antenna but only one of the cables is attached to the “Cable TV” input in the RV’s service bay. (that might be a problem in itself). In the TV cabinet he used a triplexer to split the CATV cable to SATELLITE ONE and SATELLITE TWO on the rear of the 722K. He used the existing coax cable in the camper to connect from the 722K to the bedroom TV

We are getting HD channels but not HD locals. My neighbor is getting HD locals. Eastern Arc HD locals (I assume on 61.5)

I have more questions but I’ll stop for now

The 1000.2 dish will serve you better than rooftop dome because you'll get all DISH sats at once. A dome only receives 1 sat at a time which is not good if you plan on recording any sat programs.

There are 2 was to get local TV programs (1) using an OTA ("batwing") antenna, (2) from DISH.

To get OTA TV stations, connect your batwing antenna to that other Triplexer connector. Then you do search for local TV stations. Trial and error.

To get DISH locals, do the following:

  • Determine which local TV stations you should receive: use the link.
  • Determine which sats you need to receive: look up the city/state from #1 and use this link

First off do not waste you money on a Winegard tripod. Invest in a TV4RV.com HD Tripod. It costs a little more but is has adjustable legs which enables having the mast to be vertical on the rough ground you will find in campgrounds. With the Winegard tripod, you might get the mast vertical if the tripod in on level concrete.

You only need one cable from the DPP 1000.2 disk to a VIP 722K. Usually the cable is connected to the left (from the coax side) of the LNBF unit.

It may look like a triplexor but you need a Dish Diplexor to take the one coax from the dish and feed it into Satellite 1 and Satellite 2 in the VIP 722K.

You can use the Cable TV input to get the dish coax into the RV but that cable needs to be disconnected from the OTA amplifier switch. You cannot run the satellite signal through the OTA amplifier switch.

The normal DPP 1000.2 dish is a WA dish, (119. 110,129). If your HD Locals are in the EA (61.5, 72.7) then you need a EA LNBF head for your DPP 1000.2

A caution about using the "cable TV" connection on the RV for satellite TV signal. If the RV mfg did not use high bandwidth (3000 Ghz) cable, the cable TV cable in the RV will not reliably pass the signal to your receiver (DVR).

I had this problem on a 2005 fifth wheel, trying to use the cable TV connection. Most of the time I would loose the signal, and/or the picture on the TV would be badly broken up. I had to run a 3000 Ghz cable through the window to the DVR to get it to work.

Thanks for the Winegard review. The legs are adjustable but only in one inch increments. Worth a second look.

That's how it is wired. I thought all of the cables need to be connected. More questions.

Is there any benefit to bringing all the wires to 722K? What is the short (3 foot) cable for? It's connected to the "right" and he just left it stuffed into the stand.

Thanks Al. It's 59 and it's working now. I do wonder about running new RG6 from the utility bay to the cabinet where the 722K is. It's the same question I asked above, just worded differently.
