Art and Bev Posted December 29, 2014 Report Share Posted December 29, 2014 While we were still in Houston and our Rig was in storage, we got DT installed in the rig. Repeatedly told them that it was a Motorhome and that we would be mobile.Well guess what? The installer came and installed it as if as if we were a permanent fixture, with a genie (which I did not request) a slim line antennae on a 4ft by 4ft steel frame base anchored with 2 cement blocks. It worked beautifully while it was there (for 2 days before our departure for Rainbow`s End) thank God for big basement storage bins on our Damon. Now @ SKP park and I cannot get the @#$#@m thing to work. The only reason that I accepted the installation is that we were leaving shortly and did not have time to rectify this blunder. What I really want is a simple non HD system a smaller antennae so I can put the antennae on a tripod. Also I want to be able to connect it to our Trac 3 roof antennae. Question is, does anyone know who I can contact at DirecTV who knows what a Motorhome is. I see many Rigs with D/T set-ups, surely someone there must know. Any HELP on this dilema would be appreciated. Barbaraok Posted December 29, 2014 Report Share Posted December 29, 2014 Call Direct TV and ask for a supervisor, then tell them that you are going to yell so if they aren't the supervisor for mobile service, get you to someone who is - - it may take a couple of transfers before you get someone who is familiar with mobile service. I always tell the initial person who answers that I am angry and don't want to yell at them - - that gets me transferred to someone very quickly and usually taken care of with only one more transfer. GR "Scott" Cundiff Posted December 29, 2014 Report Share Posted December 29, 2014 They actually gave you a great setup - the one I tried to buy the other day and they wouldn't install it BECAUSE I was in a RV! If you are willing to buy one more piece of pricy equipment (that will help aim the dish) and learn to aim the dish you will have a nice setup. Otherwise, you might be happier with a small dome which will find the satellites for you - just no HD. JRP Posted December 29, 2014 Report Share Posted December 29, 2014 If all you need/want is a new antenna, there is really no need to deal with the frustrating idiots who answer the phones at DTV. When you get to Rainbows End just find a local SAT installer willing to work on RV's and deal directly with them to get what you want; or just order the antenna & tripod you want online and have it delivered. As long as you're happy staying with the SD receivers and the programing you have, there is no need to involve DTV in changing your antenna setup. IMHO it's foolish these days not to get HD and you're going to be charged for it since you have an HD receiver whether or not you can receive it. The SWM3 LNB doesn't need that large a dish and isn't much harder to point than a round SD one. All the stuff you want is available on Amazon at good prices. I had the same problem as far as getting anyone at DIRECTV to understand my problem. I did NOT want a Genie since it requires multiple satellites to activate and I wanted to alternate between a Slim Line SWM dish (HDTV) on a tripod and my roof mounted single LNB (SD), depending if we were traveling or staying in one place for a while. I finally contacted DIRECTV tech support and got a representative who understood my situation, and told me to always call them for mobile user questions. I ended up buying an HR24 receiver from a vendor, and then DIRECTV tech support credited my account for what I paid. The HR24 works with both HD and SD and I can quickly change the setup for either. Long story short. An installer will be here Fri. the 9th with a new round dish and SD LNB at absolutely nothing. Actually I will get a credit of $120.00. I guess it all depends who you happen to talk to. Thanks for all your inputs. Hollardawg Posted January 13, 2015 Report Share Posted January 13, 2015 Since the Fox vs Dish fiasco I have tried, on 4 separate occasions, to switch from Dish to Direct TV and all I get is a hard time from Direct TV. One Rep actually told me they don't want RV business because it is not reliable. My last conversation (today) I was told that I had to buy all of the equipment, install it myself, and then they would turn on the service. I guess they just don't want my business. Installing a receiver and an antenna is easy. My problem is giving my money to a vender who appearantly doesn't want it. My business background tells me that customer service, lacking on the front end, is an indicator of what you can expect when problems occur on the back end. jblscooper Posted January 14, 2015 Report Share Posted January 14, 2015 Strange, several months ago DTV had an offer for changing from SD to HD. One call set up a date for install. On that date a local installer (not contract) from DTV arrived. He was full prepared to install cable, mount dish, etc. He brought a "non-penetrating ground mount" to mount the dish on. He also made a run to HD to get some concrete blocks to stabilize the mount. All in all, very satisfied with a pro doing the install.
