webasto heater question

A trickle charger will not do what Rick suggests above....you will be using more than it is putting in. The trickle charger works well to simply maintain the bank, but that assumes no usage other than a parasitic draw.

"As long as you have your battery charger plugged into that shore power kit is keeping the batteries above the low voltage cutout setting"

Battery Minder has many different chargers with higher amp ratings. The above statement is still correct if the charger you purchase can keep the batteries above LVD level. Also, if you keep the batteries in a fully charged state you will be able to run the heater for many hours. Lot's of OTR truckers rely on these for their down time in the winter months.

Evidently I have a after market inverter. The kit Rick refers to has a male plug end which I believe plugs shore power. My male plug is plugged into the inverter .Can I unplug it and plug it directly into shore power there?

You can plug in the shore power kit to power the AC side. Then when not plugged into shore power you would have to switch back to the inverter to power your AC outlets. This is why many inverters have built in transfer switches so you do not have to do it manually.

Rick is correct. You can get a higher powered Battery Minder and it will extend the time that you can use power via the Webasto.....as long as that gives you enough charge you will be fine. But if you intend to do that a lot then I'd recommend that you use an inverter/charger and get better charging performance. Even the trickle charger will help extend your time, but it does not make up for using a "real" charger.
