Yarome
-- You either use a huge amount of electricity every day. (400-600AH a day?) when I am in hog mode it is about 500 - 550 ah. That answers THAT question. Really no way around that then with your available solar. Still.. it's certainly no sin to kick over your genset to supplement your daily usage. One strategy I might use in that situation... kick over your genny early, let it handle the bulk charge then kill it and let your solar finish off your battery bank. With the amount of solar you have, using some of your higher demand options during production hours could see a better use of the "free" energy you're producing while still keeping your battery bank "fresh" for the night. Don't know exactly what kind of gear you're using, but just an idea to play around with.

Jack Mayer
I have plenty of solar and battery at 1220 watts and 1200 AH of storage. I use about 200-350 AH overnight. Yes, I'm a HOG. And sometimes even more depending on evening activities. I still run my genset almost EVERY morning. First, it is good to exercise it - you want it to run when you NEED it. Second, I seen no need to utilize my batteries any more than I have to. I generally start a Bulk charge with the genset, make coffee, do any other intensive electrical stuff for about 15-20 minutes in the morning. Then solar does the rest. Am I a solar "purist"? Obviously not. If you are, you do not want to park next to my genset - which I can barely hear inside - it is below my livingroom floor.
