  1. Brenda and I just finished our 13th year on the road. We've spent a lot those years volunteering, and were fortunate to have a stint with Kirk and Pam. We've no plans to stop and are always happy to meet fellow Escapees. You can always see where we're at by viewing our blog at http://dnpc.blogspot.com
  2. It uses a 12V plug and automatically starts when you start the vehicle. It also has a vibration sensor, and if it senses vibration, turns itself on.
  3. I bought a "Oldshark" dash cam from Amazon in 2017, (about $60) and it's still working today. I switch it between my car and RV (suction cup mount) without problem. It has been invaluable. Last year while passing through des Moines, a triple-tow tractor trailer passed me on the left (I was in the center lane doing the speed limit). There was a right to left crosswind, and the last trailer brushed my motorhome. There was a bang, and suddenly the awning started to deploy fabric. I pulled over at the next stop and cut away the fabric, secured the awning roller with tie wraps, and filed a claim with my insurance for a new awning. The agent checked and said that the trucking company, a contractor to UPS, denied that it happened. I said "would you like to see the video?" With both the visual and sound it was clear that the impact happened (you could hear my wife say "hey! He hit us!). I was going to get reimbursed anyway, but it was nice to see that the trucking contractor had to pay. They are definitely worth the investment.)
  4. We've been DirecTV subscribers since we started full timing in Oct 2005. We opted for the DNS package which gave us the networks stations from both east and west coasts, and it's been grandfathered. We changed to a tripod dish years ago since we volunteer and spend summers in treed areas, and overall we've been happy with the service.....EXCEPT I am sick and tired of the lack of customer service. Call with a problem, be placed on hold for a half an hour, then get connected with a non-native English speaker in an overseas call center who only knows what he/she can read from a computer script. A few years ago I spent three days requesting NFL Ticket, each time connecting with an overseas person who assured me that I would be connected in the next hour. I finally called and requested an American technical expert who promptly told me I was never eligible because I was a DNS user (some FCC rule). The last straw was last week when I waited for over two hours over two days in an attempt to unlock my account due to the use of an old password. I quit. I was sent a free Verizon streaming device that gives me a free Disney Plus, Hulu basic, Tubi and others. I added YouTube TV and with Amazon Prime I have more variety than with DirecTV at less than half the cost. I have 185 high speed GB with my phones and a hotspot, and even with the increased cost for the data, I'm better off cost wise. Between park WiFi, OTA TV, park Cable, and streaming, I'm happy even if all of these aren't available once in a while.
  5. We're long-time volunteers, and spent the last three years at Farragut State Park. Without doubt, the best state park we've ever hosted at. Great facilities and host sites, beautiful location, and exceptional volunteer coordinator. And with around 50 volunteers, the pot lucks are amazing!
  6. We're in Spearfish for our DL renewal having just driven from Northern Idaho on I-90 and Highway 212. This was our third or fourth time on 212, it's an easy drive and the western section has some interesting scenery. the closer you get to Belle Forche the bleaker it gets, but it's the shortest route. Fuel up in Hardin, there's nothing much on 212 and what there is is expensive.
  7. We've both hosted and stayed at a number of Oregon state parks. They are consistently the best parks in the country, largely because of the funding that is now being reduced due to the COVID pandemic. Oregon parks are not funded by the state, but instead receive their funding from the lottery and park revenue. Both of these have been severely impacted by the pandemic. Personally, I'll pay the surcharge - the parks are still a reasonable price when you consider the quality.
  8. I tried to change my service address with DTV in February, something i've done many times before. This time they told me that they'd have to schedule an appointment and a technician would have to oversee the change. When I challenged that, they gave me some argument that the FCC had changed the rules. Anyone had their service address changed over the phone lately?
  9. I've suffered from allergies all my life. I found a doctor in Rapid City, Dr Gerti Janns, who tested and prescribed allergy shots. When she learned that we were full time travelers, she scheduled a session with her nurse on how to give myself injections in my thigh, and also I had an epi pen. I had serum for pollen, mold, and cat dander, and as I began to get close to running out, I'd fill out the paperwork, send them to her, and get refills overnighted. Every doctor I saw said the same thing when I told them I gave myself injections...."YOU WHAT??" With worries about liability it's a rare thing. When I saw the allergist in our winter location, he was surprised, but pleased that I could do this, but also said that after five years the shots are no longer effective. It had been longer than that, and about that time I learned that Dr. Gerti was retiring. I was led to believe that I could still continue my shots with the new doctor, but decided not to do so. Although she's retired, her listing is still on the web; The Allergy Clinic, 1828 W Kansas City St, Rapid City, SD, 57702, (605) 348-1350 Good luck to you, I understand you frustration.
  10. Like most, our summer volunteer position at an Idaho State Park is on hold. We're at a small private park on the Southern Oregon Coast for the duration, and in Oregon, volunteers that were at state parks are allowed to stay. The message from volunteers has been that they've been told they can do maintenance or do nothing at all; it's their choice. On the other had, state parks in Washington and Idaho have told their volunteers to leave. Another indicator of why Oregon State Parks have the best volunteer programs.
  11. We're on our 5th tow car in 15 years of full timing, and we now own the one we should have bought to begin with. It's a 2013 Honda CRV. AWD, auto, comfortable, and virtually maintenance free. With over 100K road miles and around 40K towing, it's never needed anything but fluid changes and new tires. Not fancy, but functional and holds it's value.
  12. We started RVing in 1974 with a new 18' Wilderness single axle trailer that I pulled with a '72 Bronco. With the short wheelbase and single axle trailer I drove with one hand on the wheel and one on the trailer brake to keep the damn thing straight. Since then we've had a slide-in, 4 fifth wheels, and two motorhomes. We've been full timing for 14 years in our motorhome and don't have an end in sight.
  13. Sorry, this isn't a garage sale.....If I don't sell it for $150, I'll keep it as a backup. Thanks anyway.

  14. make it $100 and I will take it off your hands.

  15. We're at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA, volunteering at the Coastal Artillery Museum. We'll be here until the end of January.
