Jack Mayer
Anyone know if stopping here is viable these days. Used to be that with the oil field workers there was not much choice left there. Especially for a big rig....and I do mean a big rig. 74' long. Jack & Danielle Mayer #60376 Lifetime Member Living on the road since 2000PLEASE no PM's. DavidMc
I have stayed there a few times over the years -- not very impressive and limited advantage. So, I am most likely to check the Days End Directory if I think I will want a place to just over-night. David On-The-Road with a Purpose
Kirk W
Last year, in route to Tucson for Escapade we stopped, but only dry camping was available. That usually is available there since the workers don't want it. Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... Chalkie
We will plan our stops so that Pecos is not on the list after stopping there once. Never again. I have no beef with the oil workers, in fact, there have been a fair number in other parks we have stayed at. The park is just run down and trashy looking. mrschwarz
Of all the RV parks we have stayed in, this one was the worst. The least of it was our site had power on one side and water on the other. Since we were only overnighting, we didn't need water so we pulled in with the power on the driver side. Someone came over to complain, but that's how we stayed. In our opinion, it's not worth the savings. Michael 2017 Allegro Bus 45OPP Cummins ISL 450 Visit us at schwarz.org! Jack Mayer
Well, I guess we will just go on to The Ranch. It is on our route and makes the next day easier. I had heard they had "cleaned up" the Pecos park. But I had also heard it was hard to get a spot there. I don't mind boondocking as long as we don't need air conditioning. First time we were there - years ago - we had to lift electric lines to get into our site. They were sagging too much. I assume that has been taken care of. But we have not been there for at least 8 years. Jack & Danielle Mayer #60376 Lifetime Member Living on the road since 2000PLEASE no PM's. Jack Mayer
So we checked into Tra-Park just a bit ago. It is pretty chock full of oil field workers. But there are at least 6 - 7 sites that are large pullthru's for travellers. Our 74' fits easily, and easy in/out. They are side-side sites. Each rig faces in the opposite direction and shares an electric post. Since our last visit they have upgraded the power to a 50/30, instead of all 30. First guest gets the 50 The next gets 30. Guess which we have This is a good overnight stop, but is just a gravel lot. For $21.50 I'll take it. Very good Verizon 4G service - Speedtest is showing 20 mbps. SKP038620
Is Jim and his wife still there as managers ? They got rid of the old Mobile home in 2013 and moved the library into the office. Stop there every time I go thru. Always had a full hookup site ..
dewilso
Jim & Brandy were still there about a year ago. They keep some open spaces for traveling SKP's along the front row. Dave W. KE5GOH Stuck in the 70's --- In E. Texas
RV_
Good info, we used it a lot when we were fulltiming as we started every year visiting my mom in California when she was still alive. From S'Port on I-20 to 10 to 8. I'd forgotten that SKPs opened it up to non members. Sounds like it is making money for them. It was always just an overnight stop for us too. It is packed full....and even the old sites far away from the office are full. That place is far bigger then most people are aware. RV_
It wasn't full before when it was Escapees club members only when we stopped there. That is great! Escapees needs profits to keep supplying "free" services like these forums. Memberships go a long way as well, especially for the currently and about to travel SKPs, who can use the great articles in the magazine, and discounts at the SKP only parks and CoOps and the newer ones.
