  1. What about people with Travel'rs? Will the firmware allow it to ignore 129?
  2. I have had nothing but bad luck with Lincare. They don't return phone calls and can't handle exceptions. They don't give out individual phone numbers so every phone call is with a different rep and is dependent on the quality of notes from the previous call. Before I retired, I lived in the Dallas area and my sleep doc went through Monitor Medical. I never had a problem. When I retired, the sleep doc connected me with an outfit out of Nashville. Once I got passed initial growing pains, I had no problems with them. Then, they got bought out by Lincare, with all the deficiencies I had before. I called Monitor Medical, since I had good luck with them. I got a new machine from them. My current sleep doc in Arizona has no problem working with them. In most locations, they can send me my supplies directly. Some locations they can't. When that happens, I have them sent to Livingston and have them forwarded to me. One time they sent them to Livingston instead of my location in Massachusetts. They corrected it by sending me a duplicate order to Mass. I have been dealing with the same rep for years and we do everything via email, including shipping addresses. If things get complicated, I call her extension directly and she almost always answers right away.
  3. We belong to Alliant Credit Union. In addition to knowing about full-timers (10 years), we had no trouble getting a loan for a new motor home with better rates than anywhere else. We have even changed states and gotten new titles each time. They are great to work with.
  4. I don't know what 'scam' you're referring to. Due to the increased maximums to qualify this year, received considerable savings due to the ACA subsidy.
  5. My child bride is not old enough for Medicare (that changes in November this year). When we retired and went full-time, we lived in Texas and simply 'moved' to Livingston. At the time, we were both signed up for individual PPO health insurance. A couple of years later, insurance companies in Texas stopped offering individual PPO policies. By that time I was on Medicare, but not so for my wife. Our first move was to Washington state. No income tax, low registration fees, reasonable insurance rates. Becoming a resident was easy. For the motor home, we had to pay the difference between the sales tax we paid and the higher rate in Washington. Meeting the requirements of the health insurance company was daunting. We needed an electric bill or some such, which we didn't have. We finally satisfied them, I can't recall how. A few months later, they too stopped offering individual PPOs. Next stop was Florida. We read all the requirements on the Escapees site and made sure we followed them to the letter. We flew into Orlando with our documents, stopped in the county offices in The Villages. 90 minutes later, we left with new permanent drivers licenses, plates, registrations, and titles. Registration was inexpensive. Then came the phone call to the insurance company for our vehicles. After giving them all the information about our move, they quoted premiums that were more than double what we were paying in Washington. A change of insurance companies managed to keep the premium increase to about 50% more. My bride is going to qualify for Medicare at the end of 2022. Once she does, we'll 'move' again. I am guessing the insurance premium savings for the first year will pay for the trip to wherever we need to go.
  6. The star shows that your license meets the requirements for the federal RealID program. This is to allow you to use it for boarding an airplane flight. I'm not sure if the rules are in effect or if it has been postoned again. I didn't know that it matters for a car rental.
  7. I have two computers with Windows 11 and one with Windows 10. I don't see much difference except where Microsoft was trying to emulate some of their competitors and wound up dumbing down their interfaces. Windows 10 had a better start menu. When I had a routine task that required one mouse click in 10, I now have 2 or 3 mouse clicks in 11. That's a step backwards.
  8. There is a DOT scale immediately south of Bandon on Rt. 101. I have used it more than once when crabbing there.
  9. I 'moved' to Florida a few years ago. Escapees has a page with a listing of all the requirements to establish residence and domicile. We followed the list of required items and brought everything into the county office. About an hour later, we walked out with new licenses, titles, registrations and plate. A short drive to another county office registered our statements of domicile. Every time the county lady asked for a document, we had it. She commented that most people forget one thing or another, but we had everything. Find the page with the requirements and do everything it says. It's quick and it works.
  10. The one time I pulled into a weigh station, I got yelled at for wasting their time. From then on, if they want to weigh me, they'll have to chase me down. Been through dozens of states and Canadian provinces and never had a problem.
  11. Sorry for the delay. I am sending it now. For anyone else that wants a copy, I have put it here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1deQiLekBPFNiST0iafzFRYs-CK25pzkr?usp=sharing
  12. I saw a program on Nova many years ago about hydrogen. It's one of the safest flammable gases around. The big problems are storage and production. Since it is the lightest element known, it is difficult, but not impossible to store enough in a car to give it a reasonable range. As someone said earlier, since there is no carbon to combine with oxygen, the only byproduct of combustion is water.
  13. I was pretty sure this was true so I did a search. Here are the first two I found: https://dor.wa.gov/taxes-rates/retail-sales-tax/marketplace-fairness-leveling-playing-field/consumers-buying-out-state-sellers https://azdor.gov/individual-income-tax-filing-assistance/understanding-use-tax Here is a general explanation of sales tax. https://www.salestaxinstitute.com/sales_tax_faqs/out_of_state_retailer_collect_sales_tax By the way, states requiring use tax isn't new. I was originally from New England, so it was easy to go through 4 (or more) states in an hour's drive. My home state (Connecticut) wasn't bashful about letting us residents know about this.
