Advice Please !!!!! My hubby wants me to get rid of the birds (I have a little cockatiel and a 1 yr old Australian King Parrot). My parrot is talking now and I really dont want to get rid of them - Does anyone have experience traveling with birds? What and the pitfalls with birds, best cages for travel? Any info gratefully received.

By the way we have purchased a 36' Pace Arrow Class A unit.

Thanks

mislyn

WE have travels with one or two parrots since about 1998. Currently have a Timneh African gray and a standard schnauzer. The gray has a travel cage that he rides in the back seat of the truck. The dog takes the other 2/3 of the seat.

In the 5th wheel the parrot has a small parrot cage.

As always you need to keep the bird out of drafts and direct sunlight. Be careful and vent well when using teflon pans.

We have friends who travel with their bird in their MH. Leo always seems very content and happy. I know his cage has a special spot in their rig

On a lighter note we volunteered with a couple who had a parrot. Apparently raised him from there egg!!! Viv taught the bird to talk and his favorite phrase was "Let me out"". Her Hubby's greatest fear was being stopped for some reason and an LEO would hear the bird screaming those words!!!

We traveled for years with a dog, a cat and a Blue Front Amazon (mid sized parrot). The Bird's "traveling cage" was a modified dog crate. Worked great and the bird loved it. Unfortunately, the bird pass on about two years age. She was well over 40 years old, but she had a great life.

I know this is asking a lot but do you folks have any pictures of the set ups you had for the traveling birds? It will sure help me to organize.

The Australian King Parrot is about the size of a pidgeon - not too big - but he is a cutie

For the travel cage we use a smaller cockatiel cage with works great fro the Timneh gray. He has a roughly 24" x 18" 48" hiht parrot cage in the trailer. We lay it on a pad when traveling in the trailer.

Raining right now and the travel cage is out side under a slide out. I'll try fro a photo tomorrow.

We travel with a Cockatiel and dogs. No problem.

I use same cage I use in the house and use it in my MH.

I put the cage on the kitchen counter-top and secure it to the cabinets with one 1/4" all-thread.

The bird travels excellent with all the bumps and bounces and swaying.

And loves to travel and chirps and sings.

I carry an electric heating pad to use under the cage if it is cold.
