Autoshift won't shift out of 3rd

Hey guys I have a 2000 Volvo with Eaton three pedal AutoShift. I can start off in first second or third but it will not shift any higher on its own.

Any thoughts about what I can do right away?

Turbo has nothing to do with 1400 RPM limit. Something is putting the ECM into limp mode. What codes does the driver display show?

I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again.

Shut down and turn off ignition. If no fix do what Ronbo said,,,, also as mentioned check your codes. You may also check your fuses at the battery connection sometimes these are in bad shape corrosion wise. Please let us know what you do to fix it.

If in any doubt at all, always recheck to make sure you have a perfect ground. Clean battery terminals and any ground lugs you have on the frame. Can't tell you how many times this is an issue.

Well, there you go. The truck is trying to protect itself. The next step is to determine if it's a sensor issue, or a true lack of oil pressure. Do you have access to a mechanical gauge you can install in an unused oil port?

I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again.

If you had confirmation of oil pressure, I'd suggest putting it in manual and using the up/down buttons on the shifter. Given the mystery, a tow truck is probably the best bet.

Got on the phone early this morning and have a mobile guy coming out to look at it. Hopefully just a sensor, oil filter or something else not so expensive. Thanks for all the replies, I'll keep you posted.

Turbo doesn't "come on". It's turning any time the engine is running, and starts building boost based on engine load. Revving up the engine in the parking lot won't provide enough load to build much boost, except for a short blip.

I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again.

I would do as Darryl said, put it in manual and use the buttons. And it probably doesn't need said, but make sure you are not putting it in manual and expecting the auto shift to work. Yes, it's been done.

Living.........Don't dis pare........ya gotta love truck'n at times.

Not too long ago I "managed" all by myself to get the olld Freightshaker into limp-mode and it has a stone-age 10 speed manual RoadRager tranny ..............I could choose ANY gear I wanted but the Truck-Brain would only let the engine power up to 23 MPH.........

Often the biggest expense of limp-mode is buying a new wig after you pull your hair out after you find out the simple cause of the error.....

Often paying a sharp tech is the best $$$ spent ........finding the sharp tech can be a dice-roll at times on the road.

The good news is that you have good oil pressure now look at the rest of the systems.......

Trust me it feels good when you get to the "solution"........

Good luck.

Drive on..........(out of limp-mode......)

Howdy Kevin,

I had this happen once, shut off the engine, restarted and shut it down three times and all was well, never did find out what caused the problem.

Nothing worked so far. Tachometer works, speedometer is sitting at 0 even when going down a hill at 5mph. Possibly faulty speed sensor? But no Fault code for that.

A few weeks ago, my 2004 GMC Diesel (K3500) stopped on I-10 some 25+ miles East of Van Horn; was towing my fifth wheel. Engine would run up to 1500 rpm; drove to Van Horn @ 25 mph to a shop. Making a long story short, fuel filter had a small cup of rusty water which caused the sensor to limit the rpm of the engine, saving more damage. For about $150, they installed a new fuel filter, air filter and charged only that small amount. I want to give credit to A&A Repair @ the east end of the main drag in Van Horn. They knew what they were doing, had a source of parts, and got the work done. They even had me to leave the shop and try out the engine to see if any further problems developed. I could not believe that they were sending me out for a trial run before the bill was paid. Owner is Robert Alvarado. Numbers 1.866.997.6350; bus 432.283.9048; cell 432.284.0822; email aarepair806@yahoo.com. I recommend these people without hesitation. They were working on two 18-wheelers while I was there. One left with a big smile on his face. A&A Repair in Van Horn. Another example of sensor effect. My Toyota would not start; was parked in a parking lot that was slanted, and the oil was low, too. Poured in a quart of oil: voila, engine started as always.

It was the speed sensors, we are on the road rolling. Thanks again guys.

Too bad the speed sensor error code was not reported to you in the first place......Bit of a "hair-pull' sometimes to get to the problem.......

Glad the fix was fairly fast so you likely still have enough of your own hair to not need a wig.......yet.....

Keep on trucking.....

Drive on........(Keep the sensors happy......)
