We will be heading that way too....second winter. Really enjoyed it last year and looking forward to it again this year!

(This year we will have our rhino).

God never promised us a quiet journey, only a safe arrival.

I'll be down in Coronado and maybe over the border in Gila if it gets too warm.

I "might" visit Q for the first time for a couple of days, but that's only to pay Paul and his Mrs's a steak dinner I owe them.

Why? Are you trying to get a greet and meet together or just trying to figger who to avoid this winter? LOL :P

Lol Yarome.....i'm always up for having a beer together or going for a ride. Sometimes its nice to put a face to a name. I find too that sharing experiences in an area opens up more to see and do that you were not aware of.

Good on ya! I'll keep you in the loop. Its just as easy to flip 4 steaks as 2.

I'm not adverse to popping a top ;)

I never have a plan, but more than likely I'll jump up to see Paul once all the "hubbub" is over. I know you folks like your peace... so probably February?

It has been a few years since we have been to that area of the country. It was always lots of fun. Now it is a trip to Escapees Casa Grande RV park. Very nice park and great folks!

We will be at the SKP park in Benson for most of the winter.

My boondocking is oriented towards fishing and hunting sites.....so will spend our winter time in a astronomy friendly site.

Somehow, never really took to boondocking in the desert.

Jimalberta, if you are in the Yuma area around the first weekend of March , there is Midnight at the Oasis car show (MATO). Draws from SoCal, Vegas, Lake Havasu, Phoenix and Tucson. Last year, they cut it off at 950 cars. Held on the Ray Kroc complex (Mr. McDonalds Hamburger) and most walking and viewing is done on low cut grass fields. Great show.

Like tens of thousands of others, we will be wandering the various boondocking areas of the Arizona and California deserts during Jan, Feb and March. Specifically where and for how long in each location we have no idea.

We like this park. Been there a couple of times. First time was about 15 years ago when my parents invited me to help build their casita. We went back last January to work on a Elite Suites in that park, and got to visit the casita again. Current owner is happy with the California style of construction we used. I'm a long time CA contractor, so we used typical methods to build it pretty tight and solid, we have to for earthquake country. Enjoy the park. Nice folks there.

Thanks for this.....gonna have to try to make it there. Wish there was a web site that has all of these shows listed. Another thing that I like to do is visit the small towns when they have a parade....I find the small local parades a hoot to watch.

We'll get there after spending the Christmas Holidays in Michigan with Family.

That's just about brave and a half! :P

Not a drive I would envy even though I have roots in Detroit and Casa Grande.

I won't even harsh on your 1500 if you bring pie this year. ;)

Like visiting the Desert Bar. We would not have known about it if motorcycling friends had not gone out exploring.

Hi Jim I'll be in Q for my first time the beginning of January. I hope to do some exploring on my ATV and find some water in the southeast to do some kayaking. would be nice to meet up with some people that know there way around.

Thanks Scott

Hi Gang,

Dave and Joyce Jeffries here, We will be wintering at La Posa South near Quartzsite, AZ once again as we have for the last 6 years.

We set up as close to the clubhouse tent in the Magic Circle as possible. :D

Normally try to arrive before halloween for the first party of the season and usually leave in early April when they get ready to kick us all out....... <_<

HaHaHa typo I meant to say southwest. But you are right my brother and his family live in Georgetown SC. He is ok but said he is keeping the boat tied to the doorknob just in case.

  • 2 weeks later...

There are many places ts to boondock in western NM and eastern Arizona on BLM land where you do not have to worry about the many outdoor loving folks from California and the big cities of Arizona (no complaint about the people, just their numbers). Wrote about this several months ago where we were set up about 5 km from the Gila River (one of the last free-flowing wild rivers in US - and folks now want to dam it (damn it) just to waste state and federal funds for Arizona agriculture (no advantage to New Mexico). In two weeks we saw the rancher twice and one other vehicle. it is best to drop your rig (camp somewhere) and then scout out locations to make sure that you can get in/get out/turn around. There are a lot of folks who have not done this and it is painful/expensive/both.

Just a consideration. In some places in the out lands you need to LOCK your doors. Been told about people having unexpected visitors coming into their campsite asking for food and water. I do not know if this is a problem all over. Just pays to be aware.
