Help, Kenworth T2000 won't start

So I went out this morning to start the truck to go get fuel before our trip. Truck started fine. It ran for about 3 minutes and then started running rough and shut down. When I try and restart it just cranks but no fire. My Volvo did this a few times and it was the ECM fuse in the battery box before I finally had to replace the ECM. I cannot find an ECM fuse for this truck. On the display I am getting engine pid 085 high. Have not been able to find that code. I pulled the flash codes and get code 36,46,51 and 62. These codes are speed sensor, low oil pressure, low coolant and intermittent low voltage to ECM. I just had a water pump put in which was the low coolant. Speed sensor should not shut it down. Oil pressure and ECM would. I just had Kenworth replace all four batteries last Saturday before I picked it up so I am stumped. It has been an expensive year for the old Kenworth. Any help would be appreciated. Truck is a 2000 model year with 3406e Cat engine.

Make sure the people that put in the batteries connected ALL of the grounds back up correctly and that all of the connections are tight and clean.

Other than that, Scrap will be by sooner or later and should be able to help out.

Fuel level?

Edit to add: Ask me how I know that the tanks will equalize to a level higher in the downhill tank.

I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again.

I just checked the batteries and they are showing low. I'm sure the shop just grabbed them off the shelf and put them in. I'll charge over the weekend and hope it's that simple. I've never been that lucky with simple but I can hope. Thx for the quick replies.

The fact that it started and then shut down indicates that it ain't the batteries. I'll wager a 12 pack of Dr. Pepper you have a fuel leak, or more accurately, air leaking into the suction side of the fuel pump.

When you crank the starter, do you get white smoke, or no smoke?

The only time I had anything like this it turned out to be the small wires at the battery connections. I called Billb and he directed me to there. I pulled them off and replaced the end connectors and she fired right up. Just a cheap fix possibility.

Do you have a Davco fuel filter? If so, how much fuel is showing? If there's any on the glass, I'm likely wrong with my diagnosis.

No Davco. Just a regular spin on filter. Right now truck is parked to close to shop to open hood. Not a smart move and I never nose into shop for this reason but was doing some work on the rear so parked it that way this time. I am going to put a fitting in the tank tomorrow morning to put air in the truck with my shop compressor so I can move it. Once I get the hood open I will start with the potential fuel diagnosis as well as check some sensors that are known issues for this motor.

After you have charged up the battleries give her a try...

If it starts and runs you are ahead of the game. Remember low voltage can occur even after you have it running if the batteries were low. Try one thing at a time and make sure it's good before you move on to next suspect.

Keep the self induced "problem(s)" to a minimum. Low batteries and bad grounds can cause lots of "problems"! Try checking the areas that were "touched" last during other maintenance.

The part of his first post that makes me think air in fuel, is when he wrote it started to run rough and then shut down. Classic symptoms for air in the lines. I went through it last year with my Mack, and it was the o-ring on the fill port of the filter.

Well it was fuel related. I got the hood open, primed with the hand primer and it started. Didn't run very long. Primed it again, jumped in the cab, fired it up and kept on the throttle till it smoothed out. So, now I know the problem, just need to find the source.

I had rough running on start up and if left more than 4 days it would not start. I needed a couple of new injectors. They were leaking air into the fuel system. Hope your problem is easier.

Cat mechanics will install a clear tube between the fuel filters to see if air is entering by bad seal on primary filter, fuel supply line from tank, or pickup inside the tank.

"Are we there yet?" asked no motorcycle rider, ever.

tyates007 I don't know what they did to mine but I was told that they could not hold a vacuum on the fuel system and that meant it was leaking air. Just thought of something when I started writing this. When they said they could not hold a vacuum they also said some was internal and some was external. Meaning that I had some leaking O rings in the fuel system. I replaced somewhere between 5 - 10 O-rings in the fuel line connections starting at the tank, through the Davco filter and up to the fuel pump. I don't know all the correct part names but I can change O-rings. The tech showed me where some of them were and the dealer printed me a picture of the system. It helped some.

Sorry I did not think of the O rings sooner.
