Medical Care Referrals - Human and Pet

Recommended Posts

We're hoping to domicile in FL, possibly setting up residence at Sumter Oaks. Does anyone have information regarding medical professionals (for humans as well as for pets) that they can share? Any doctors nearby? Medical facilities? Veterinarians?

Thanks for your help.

As BC/BS is our insurance we always contact them for in system recommendations then check them out for credentials on internet. We do this while on the road and need medical services so far this has worked very well us.

Lots of doctors north of Bushnell, mostly to serve the 55+ crowd that lives in The Villages. We were not impressed with the vet in The Villages, but it might be because they did not expect to see us again since a local recommended them.

Just a thought to ponder. Will you be back in FL annually to see this Dr? We domicile in SD but our Dr are in PA. We know we will be there every year for annual checkups and Grand kid hugs

Just realize that if you should ever have a legal dispute over what your domicile really is, this statement will not assist you in your claim of being a resident of and intending to permanently return to SD, Domicile is much more than where you register the vehicles and are licensed to drive.

I understand your statement Kirk. However we never spend more than a certain amount of time there. We researched this with our attorney and one in PA. Both agreed that this one issue would be entirely defendable in as court of law.

Our PMD stated he had to see us at least twice per year to fulfill the requirements of our insurance carrier. We love our doctor and have referred him to at least 2 other RVers we know and both also love him, but he is located in Ocala, which is about 40 miles north of Bushnell. His name is David Kuhn with Trinity Healthcare.

Just ensure the doctor you pick is included in the list of providers supplied by your insurance carrier.

Thanks so much. We'll definitely look at this and check with the carrier.

BCBS has an app, "Blue Finder", that I keep up to date on my phone to locate medical providers while traveling throughout the states. When out of country the BCBS website has a online provider locater that list by country and city. That said we had a recent occasion in central Washington where the dermatologist's office would not accept us as patients without a referral (despite this not being a requirement of the insurer). So we went to a walk-in clinic and got a referral to the dermatologist. Turned out our appointment was so far out we skipped it and drove an hour to another city where the dermatologist didn't need a referral.

Thanks for this info. I'll download the app and make sure to keep it handy on my phone. You can never tell with some physicians. Some just don't want to be bothered with new patients, others are just "too popular" and have no room for new patients. If at all possible, you get keep looking. Thank goodness for walk-in clinics when the circumstances allow it.

Happy travels!
