Carpeting down the middle

NTPA Announcer

Recommended Posts

We are in the "let's do something " to our Winnebago 5'r .....So I said "lets get rid of the carpeting on the main floor and go to a laminate or sheet vinyl all the way to the fireplace instead of just in the kitchen

1. Can it be done without the slides tearing it up?

2. Which covering would be the most seamless and be best? Sheet Vinyl, Bamboo, or Laminate.

Thanks !

Several things you'll have to consider with the slides. Are they flush floor slides or not? What do they move on, rollers or some other means.

I found when I pulled out the carpet that the flush slide needed a reducer due to the carpet and pad on the main floor. This wasn't a big problem but did require a little extra work as I had to fabricate a piece.

On my kitchen/entertainment slide, not flush but also on rollers there was also a piece of 2x2 wrapped in carpet on the front edge of the slide. This piece supplies support for the slide when in. The vinyl flooring in my rig was stapled down, the new floor is floating. MY new flooring is a high quality $$$ inerlocking vinyl plank. Vinyl plank or laminate are easier to work with and less waste than sheet vinyl.

Good luck

Thanks for the input. We most likely will go to a laminate flooring ( still remembering, the final decision is NOT mine ) . I'll have to disconnect the center island and probably take it out until we are finished. That will also let me install the new high pricey faucet thingy too.

Would prolly be easier just to buy that new 43 footer....

We are about to start this project and we are using a product called SmartCore. It is an engineered vinyl that is made by USFloors. It looks like laminate however it is 100% water proof and sold thru Lowes. They do make an up graded one with a bamboo core on the back but it is twice the price.

We looked at lots of different Luxury Vinyl. This one does not have that shiny look.

Our choice of a LVT came after having used laminate in our previous RV. We did like it but its not water proof and just a few drops of water can cause the surface to bubble

I replaced all of my carpet with laminate. Since the bed slides along the floor the guys that did it for me covered the bottom of the bed with carpet. They also gave me several scrap squares (foot and a half or so square). I bump the slides a little and just toss a carpet square (rough side up) under each corner of the slide and run them the rest of the way in. Been doing it for a couple of years now...no scratches or dings on the laminate....at least not from the slides.

Thanks everyone for the great Ideas. The more I think I'd like a mixture of new carpet and the composite flooring as well.( we will see if that passes the DW ) I'm going to contact my dealer Amos RV in Bradner Ohio. Julie usually has the answers. She's been it a long time, and they aim to please. Not an endorsement , just the ones I use

Well, We are finished with the flooring. We chose a commercial grade vinyl. It went down easily in the living area and looks darn good. We decided to do the two steps and the bathroom...... The main floor in 3/4 in. plywood. The bath and steps are 1/2 OSB. That meant covering all OSB with 1/4 luan board and then laying vinyl. trimming as needed and staining new woodwork

Was it worth the $700.00 ? I'd say so. It brought a fresh new look to our summer rig and if and when we trade, I believe it will somewhat effect the resale.

The Best thing..... DW is happy!!

I don't know anything about what you are asking, but your time line to retirement is so close to mine that I thought I had put that up there.

THANK YOU BLUELIGHTNING !!

Well there they are. !! Yes we are pleased so far. Miss Judy uses "Bona" ( whatever that is ) cleaner and polisher on it and she really likes it . I like it because she likes it. We sometimes get into quite a bit of mud or normally a lot of fine dirt / dust. Also we have promoters of a lot of events that will duck in and out to chat and discuss business. We want them to feel as right at home as we do.

For what it's worth we will be attending the ECR in Crossville Tenn. the Third and fourth week in April. It's at Deer Run RV Resort. Hope to see some of you there with your HDT !

Thank you again for your help !!
