Leaking wiring harness

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Looks like it is my turn to have the oil leaking wiring harness on the drivers side of my 12 liter Volvo engine changed. I'm in the RGV and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion of where to have it changed besides the Volvo dealer. There was one listing in the Resource guide but the person that entered it has not signed on since Oct, 2015. Thought I would ask for something a bit newer.

Thanks

You can save some money by using the Volvo engine harness splice kit rather than buying the whole harness. Do a Google search for the VED12 injector harness and you will find it. My mechanic did mine and it took him about a little over a day. If you find someone who has done a couple before it would be quicker. I think my bill was a little over a thousand Canadian dollars.

The Volvo dealer quoted me around 2K. I'll have to ask about a splice kit. Still hoping for someone besides the dealer. They did work about 5 years ago and scratched up the paint some and the wife was hot about that.

I afraid that since it is a Volvo engine and a Volvo part it will probably have to be done by Volvo. We will see.

Brad, the Volvo dealer did mine last winter in the Valley. It was under $2K, but only by a couple hundred. I did the whole harness. They did fine on it, but I did have to "fix" the way they put back the doghouse.

Just make sure you get it done sooner rather than later. And don't try the "epoxy" fix...it generally does not work. Or does not work for long. This is one to do the "right way".

Mine was 3K CAD. I had it done at the Volvo dealer in Red Deer. Just part of maintnence and provides peice of mind. To leave it until it takes out the computor would not be much fun on the side of the road somewhere.

On the DD15 engine, where would that be located so I can keep an eye out for the problem?

Does anyone have instructions on replacing the injector harness or doing the repair using the partial harness from Volvo? I had the top popped of my D12 a few days ago and it sure didn't look like too bad of a job to change. Mine is weeping a little. But, I am on a fresh oil change and am certainly not ready to mess around and contaminate a sump full of RP synthetic!!

I didn't hang and watch mine being done but a couple of things I noticed. The mechanic removed the harness from the head and layed it out beside the new one and used a test light or a meter to figure out which wire is which. The new harness is not colour coded all wires are white. It does have crimp terminals on the ends of the wires, I don't remember if the heat shrink came with it or if the mechanic supplied that.
