Congrats on your first year! We will reach that milestone next month i you count the moving into the trailer date or on Nov 1st for the day we finally towed the trailer down the road for the fist time. We have stayed in campgrounds a total or 7 weeks and boondocked the rest of the time. We also joined Passport America, Goodsam and Escapees and cant say enough about how worthwhile those subscriptions were. We have already renewed.

Great that you had a good experience with the first year! But one day there will be problems crop up so keep in mind that problems happen no matter where you live or what you are living in so just deal with things and move on. The RV life isn't for everyone but I can't recall ever meeting anyone who spent 5 years or longer as fulltimers who did not also feel that it was one of the best periods of their lives!

Great blog post.

Welcome to the Escapee forums! I hope that you will join into conversations all around the forums. :)

Thanks for the positive comments! Bill and I loved putting it together!

We do realize we have had a great first year with no issues to speak of, with the rig/truck/car anyway, but that is unlikely to last forever. We have had more than our share of non-RV related stuff, which I will talk about a bit in the second blog post (watch for it in a week or so).

Regarding what we think of the Landmark - WE LOVE IT! Ours is a 2014, so before they started making all the changes, which appear to be positive. Heartland has been a great company to deal with and our rig has truly become our home. If you have any more specific questions, please feel free to ask - either here or on the blog.

Thanks again!

Bill,

We love our '13 Key Largo and Heartland has been very good to work with. The new 365 models are very nice if you ever get a chance to check them out.

From your title it sounded like "Done" "Whew" "Glad it's Over". :) Then in reading it seems you're really enjoying it. Glad you're finding it's a great lifestyle and many more continued years to you! We traveled constantly for 16 years and it was the best years of our lives.

Thanks guys for reading!

Cyberdave - we have seen the newer ones and they are gorgeous - but the good news is we haven't seen one yet that we like better than ours! The Key Largo was our runner up floor plan - hope you have many great years in yours!

2gypsies - sorry if the title was misleading - I never considered it could be taken that way! 16 years of travel! I bet you have some awesome stories!

Thanks again!

I bet you both. I moved into my Motor Home around the 1st of August while I was getting the house ready to list on the market. Got an offer within 4 hours of having it on MLS listings. Closed on the house on August 20th. Moved into a local RV Park so could take care of a couple of Doctor Appointments before leaving town. I left the RV park on August 29th ( my birthday) and I'm heading to my home park (Pair-A-Dice) in Pahrump, Nevada. staying there for a few days, then heading up toward Oregon, & Washington. And then return to Pahrump for the winter. I've been looking forward to this for over 2 years.

I read this thread with a degree of envy, as one can only do a thing the first time, once. We have very fond memories of our transition from stick house to RV. We listed the house to give 4 months for it to sell and it took only 1 month and closed with me having 6 more weeks to work. Lived in a Ft. Worth RV park for most of that time, then on a friend's acreage for the very last of my work time. That period actually was a good thing as it did give us time to fine tune things before hitting the road.

I would warn that you need to relish each experience as you will be amazed at how quickly the time flies past.

Enjoyed reading your blog and we are glad that you had such a good first year of full timing. We have been full time for 16 years so far and still look forward to the next adventure! We noticed you mentioned that you saved money by using your "America the Beautiful" $80 annual pass for camping fees. Unfortunately, only the "America the Beautiful Senior Pass" (for those aged 62 and over) and the "America the Beautiful Access Pass" (for anyone, any age who has a permanent verifiable disability) are good for half price campground fees. The $80 annual pass covers entrance fees only or at least that is what we have been taught when we issued them as volunteers at various National Parks, Forest, Wildlife Refuges, etc. If you Google the America the Beautiful Annual Pass, the online site states that the $80 annual pass "does not cover expanded amenity fees such as camping, boat launching, parking, special tours, special permits or ferries". Many national park campgrounds, etc. are self pay, but if you try to use it at an Army Corps park where there is an attendant on duty they will not accept it. Would hate for you to innocently get in trouble. It seems a little unfair since you are paying a lot more for your pass, but that is how the rules read and you should have been advised of this prior to purchase. At any rate, keep on having fun and enjoying your full time lifestyle. :)

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Coatesbegone: We bought the "America the Beautiful" pass at the ranger station at Croatan National Forest after they explained we could use it to save on the CG fees. They had a pic of it at the self-check-in station which is why we went to the ranger station to begin with. If it's the wrong one - we were given wrong info. Might be something I need to check more into I guess. Thanks for the heads up.

Also - I published the second post about our first year end - if you want to check it out: bkamericanodyssey.com

Thanks again!

Bill and Kelly, I do not mean to sound like a "know it all", but please do check the web site. It specifically lists under the heading "what is not covered" with the Annual Pass as "extended amentities such as camping, boat launch, etc." It is very confusing because there are so many different "America the Beautiful" passes that do not all cover the same fees; and even our "public servants" give out incorrect information sometimes.

BTW, it used to make us so "mad" that we were paying full price to camp next door to the "old geezer" who was paying half as much for the same campsite! Time flies by fast . . . now we are the "old geezers"! :)

Continue to enjoy your travels and hope to meet you down the road some day!
