RV Insurance and the age of your RV?

Recommended Posts

Our fiver is 13 years old and we are reviewing our insurance and wondering what to keep and what to eliminate in the way of coverage.

We want to be protected but don't want to waste money, we are thinking of eliminating replacement cost?

What features do you have covered?

  • Total loss replacement
  • Replacement cost of personal belongings
  • Fulltimer liability
  • Campsite liability
  • Emergency expenses
  • Higher liability limits
  • Medium duty tow trucks
  • Suspend collision coverage when in storage

Not sure we are talking about the same thing, but I dropped full replacement cost coverage on my motorhome after 10 years because it caused my rate to increase drastically after that point ...went to an agreed value with depreciation from that point.

Thank you. That answers my question. Our premium will go down $700 a year (we pay annually) by going to agreed value.

Before you choose, there is one other thing which you should consider. Premiums increase with the degree of risk involved and older RVs that are insured for their new price have higher premiums because of that risk. Probably the only justification I can think of to pay that high premium would be if a loss of the RV could justify paying for the replacement being new, rather than one of similar age. We usually insure our homes to be sure that we can replace them in the event of a total loss. This should be true for an RV home also and so the issue is how much you would value that replacement being new, rather than of similar age.

Our decision was the same as Paul's.
